Feriengewitter

GDR family film
-Year: 1989
-Year in film: 1980s
-Country: East Germany
-Who in clothing: boy ~ 13 ys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: shiny shorts, speedos, underwear
-Available on DVD: no
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: One teen boy (pictured), I don't remember his name, (it's not the main character) in buckskin non Tracht Lederhosen. Not sure of the leather could also be nappa or even smooth finish, but I think rather buckskin. This is a good DEFA kids/ familyfilm (one of the last of the former GDR). Good plot about a divorce and also rural/farm content. Also good scenes in medium blue shiny shorts, blue underwear and kids in swimwear (speedos). I still have some parts on VHS, but I prefer Heimatfilms and Tracht Lederhosen. Starring Etienne Charle and his girl friend Sandra Puhlmann and others. I think not yet released on either VHS nor DVD. I wonder why, it's a good teen film. For Lederhosen scenes (I remember few scenes) rating 5. No clips on YouTube to embed.

Info 21: Update Der Mann mit dem Fagott

I have seen the first part yesterday and updated it's entry.
I don't like this film so far, at least more than one scene and 2 different sailor suits. No breeches or Lederhosen yet. Minor corrections of the year of setting and downgrade rating from 7 to 5 for now.
Film part 1 will be rebroadcasting this morning, part 2 coming this evening (and entry will be updated and completed tomorrow).

For more infos see the entry (3 new pics)

Going Overboard

Comedy film starring Adam Sandler
-Year: 1989
-Year in film: 1980s ?
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Schecky ~ 21 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: other, sailor suit
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Adam Sandler and at least one other man (is this Scott LaRose?) in short white sailor suits and complete white collars and blue scarfs. Sorry, I don't know/don't remember this complete movie. Rated R and is on IMDb Bottom 100 list. First feature film of Adam Sandler. Film aka "Babes Ahoy" and "The Unsinkable Schecky Moskowitz". I'm not sure about this movie. I bet that there are worse films. So for sailor suit scenes rating 3 for now.

Heaven Can Wait (1943)

Comedy film, nominated for 3 Oscars
-Year: 1943
-Year in film: 1870s ?
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Henry 13 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: others, historical clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Scotty Beckett (~13 yo as 9 yo Henry Van Cleve, pictured) in short dark blue sailor suit (blue collar, 3 stripes), big blue hat and red scarf and dark stockings. I found this movie by coincidence but haven't seen it completely yet. Directed by Ernst Lubitsch and set between 1870 and 1930s, so scene shown bust be in 1870s. (and so I assume few sailor suit scenes, but don't know of other actors in sailor suits). Based on stage play by Samson Raphaelson. There is also an unrelated 1978 film with the same title. Scotty Beckett (1929-1968) was a very famous child star, see also "The Case Against Mrs. Ames" (no pic yet). I like this scene but unsure for whole movie, for sailor suit scenes rating 5-6 for now.

Should Sailors Marry?

Comdedy short film starring Clyde Cook
-Year: 1925
-Year in film: 1920s
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Cyril ~33 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: bib overalls
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Clyde Cook in dark (blue) sailor suit and hat. Also in bib overalls (while wearing the sailor's hat). Also starring Oliver Hardy as doctor, produced by Hal Roach ("Little Rascals/Our Gang"). I like those classical comedy films and this scene (see also entry "Laurel & Hardy" (both in sailor suits). Real authentic clothing, no vintage costumes. Stars of my (and many other's childhood. I hope someone likes this. I didn't had time to watch this complete film, although short (22 minutes). Not sure if this is in Public Domain yet. At least not on archive.org. For age of actor, short film and b/w I give only rating 3.

Story 6: Fake Lederhosen, film MXP

MXP: Most Xtreme Primate (Video)
-Year: 2004
-Year in film: 2000s
-Country: Canada
-Who in clothing: boy ~12 ys, faked Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: snow pants, pajamas
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: An unknown boy (maybe uncredited) as part of a multinational kids group at the airport (short scene). He should most likely supposed to be a typical Austrian (or German) in Tracht. Green short cotton pants, wide red suspenders and Tyrolean hat. No view of front of the pants. Why no real Lederhosen and those poor costumes? The film is quite good with snowboard scenes and apes starring Devin Douglas Drewitz. 3rd film in this MVP series Most Valuable Primate witch chimpanzee Jack and another chimp, film aka MVP 3. Not sure if snow pants are snow bibs (only jackets over them). I also remember some scenes of Drewitz in pajamas, but could also be better. Quite good and funny family / kids entertainment. For "Lederhosen scenes" rating 3. But it could be worse. At least he is not too old, ugly or overweighted. I missed the 2 prequel films, at least film 1 features real jeans bib overalls (of a girl).

A Death in the Family (2002)

Drama starring Austin Wolff
-Year: 2002
-Year in film: 1915
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Rufus 7 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Austin Wolff in green sailor suit with white collar (pictured) and according to DVD cover also in blue sailor suit with blue collar and red scarf. Famous autobiographical novel by James Agee (1909-1955) published in 1957 and won posthumously a Pulitzer Prize. I don't know this complete movie yet but looks quite good. Starring Annabeth Gish, John Slattery, Kathleen Chalfant and others. At least 3 other films with the same title + films, series and episodes called "Death in the Family". Film is set in the summer of 1915 Tennessee and showing good historical costumes (also women). DVD released by PBS Masterpiece Theatre American Collection. Many infos and trailer there. No trailers on YouTube. I have to check this complete film. Boy is very young. Rating 5 for now.

Morte a Venezia

Drama, novel by Thomas Mann
-Year: 1971
-Year in film: 1911
-Country: Italy, France
-Who in clothing: Tadzio ~15 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: girl, boy, men, sailor suit, other hist. clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  7/10 ?
-Rating: *******
-Comment: Swedish Björn Andrésen (pictured) in different sailor suits, blue and white, also white suit with blue collar. Also in good striped different bathing costumes (red and blue). There is also at least one sailor in white sailor suit (blue collar, pic below). And a kid (boy?) in medium blue sailor suit with white collar at 0:13 and I saw on a publicity still a young girl and 2 older kids in blue sailor suits/dresses in a church (white collar, one thick stripe). Possibly more actors, even women?

I found this film by coincidence by a Google image search. First I thought that this is a woman on the theatralic poster. I hink I have seen this film back in the 1980s and can't remember it, so I have to check it again completely.
The famous film (130 minutes, starring Dirk Bogarde) had been nominated for an Oscar and won several other Awards like BAFTA. English title "Death in Venice"; original German title of the novel "Der Tod in Venedig". Lots of classical music in this film and there are at least 2 other later musical films with the same title. Sorry, I don't like Andrésen, especially not his long curly hair. Might be a very good film, but for sailor suit scenes I can't rate more than 6-7 for now (mostly for other actors). Hope for a soon broadcasting.

The Railway Children (1970)

Drama starring Dinah Sheridan, Jenny Agutter
-Year: 1970
-Year in film: ~1905
-Country: UK
-Who in clothing: Peter ~15 ys, Roberta ~17 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: others in historical clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium *
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Gary Warren in white sailor suit (blue collar, 3 stripes, pictured top left and with flat hat, pic below) and I think Jenny Agutter in white sailor dress (top right). Boy also in breeches. Also starring Sally Thomsett as Phyllis, the oldest girl ~19 ys (but I don't think in sailor dress), but not sure. Sorry, I don't know this complete film yet, but looks very good. Famous novel by E. Nesbit, published in 1905 and there is also a 2000 TV film and 3 TV series (which I also have to check), but this film is supposed to be the best version. However I assume rather few or medium scenes of the boy in sailor suits and more of the girl. Film won 2 BAFTA Awards and Thomsett got another nomination for it. Very good setting, for sailor suit scenes only rating 5-6 for now. Boy also has too long hair (like the 1970s and not the 1900s). I also don't like Agutter (and her hair).

Wilde Wasser (1962)

Heimatfilm starring Marianne Hold
-Year: 1962
-Year in film: 1960s ?
-Country: Germany, Austria
-Who in clothing: boy ~10 ys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: girl leather overalls?
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: A young boy in very short and tight nappa or smooth finish ? Lederhosen (pictured) and a young girl ~9 ys in rare black bib overalls (maybe synthetic fibres or even leather, not sure). And a boy called Rainer in standard dark blue jeans. I don't know the other (real) names (uncredited on IMDb). But all at few short scenes at the beginning of the film. I don't like this Heimatfilm. Not even men in Lederhosen and few mountains. One short scene at a lake with lots of grown up in speedos and swimsuits. Also starring Hans von Borsody, Beppo Brem, Heinrich Gretler, Franz Muxeneder and others. The boy is blowing the bellows of a church organ and also lets the other boy in jeans do it. Kids sounds like Austrian. Interesting and rare Lederhosen, so rating 6. For the girl in overalls, see also my other blog (entry coming soon). No trailer.

Info 19: List of upcoming lists

I think I now have enough entries for more lists.
As this is a combination of sailor suit and Lederhosen films (and there are too few films with girls or women in Lederhosen) this will be a bit different than on my overalls blog.
Most Heimatfilms are not released on DVD and sold out on VHS, so a movie list of rare titles is here even more of interest and will be next entry.

I  will create the following lists soon

- Rare movie list (divided in Heimatfilm and sailor suit films)
- My favourite Heimatfilms (as half of rating 10s and 9s are sailor suit films)
- Lederhosenfilms which are not Heimatfilms (of the 50s and 60s)
- Sailor suits in films set later than 1940s
- Long or unusual sailor suit collars (or colors) (see also "Story 2")
- the 2 above probably in on sailor suit list incl my favourites
- Best voted films by blog readers
- my purchases
- list of worst films (?)
and maybe more what might be useful.

Other things, like best films, films with girls or women or else can also be found by the tags or a blog search.

See also tag lists for my earlier lists or upcoming lists which I might have forgotten to announce.

If you have suggestions or corrections, please comment.

Der Mann mit dem Fagott : I'm very curious about this broadcasting next Thursday September 29th and 30th on ARD. I think it's for everyone who likes good films about history, sailor suits and Lederhosen. (See also that entry which already exists).

Swiss Family Robinson (1975)

TV series starring Martin Milner, 20 episodes
-Year: 1975-1976
-Year in film: 1814
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Ernie ~13 ys, long Tracht pants
-Who in clothing 2: girls Tracht dresses
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: often ?
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: The youngest boy, 12 or 13 yo Eric Olson in Tracht H-style leather suspenders but long dark brown pants (not sure if this is buckskin leather or just cotton pants or else). Also the girl and woman in typical Swiss Dirndl dresses. There are a lot of Swiss Family Robinson films and series and I don't know them all and have to check. But I think this is one the few ones with real Tracht clothing. Also starring Helen Hunt, Pat Delaney, Cameron Mitchell and Willie Aames. Series aka "Island of Adventure" and "Irwen Allen's Swiss Family Robinson. There is also a different film of the same year and same title as well as a 1976 series and lots more. Of course good plot of this famous shipwrecked family. For another good film version of 1975 see my entry of "The Adventures of the Wilderness Family" on my overalls blog. I don't know/ don't remember this complete series and rate for Lederhosen scenes 3 only for now. Helen Hunt with pigtails and woman and man partly with hats.

Der Pauker

Comedy film starring Heinz Rühmann
-Year: 1958
-Year in film: 1950s ?
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~8-13 ys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium
-Rating:  9/10
-Rating: *********
-Comment: Some boys at school and many outside in mainly buckskin Lederhosen and H-style suspenders (pictured). I found this film by coincidence (as a YouTube recommendation) and hadn't the time to watch it completely yet. I assume rather few scenes at the beginning, as later in the film the pupils became older and older. I also don't like Rühmann much.  Also starring famous Gert Fröbe, Peter Kraus and Bruni Löbel. Film aka "The Crammer". Outside dozens of kids, maybe > 100 and most boys in Lederhosen, partly with suspenders (I bet also some in smooth finish or nappa leather Lederhosen). Showing good historical view of teaching in 1950s Germany. Even rating 9 for now, but have to check the next TV broadcasting. Perhaps even worth buying on DVD but no real extras.

Info 19: Updates, Blogger problems 5 or 6

Minor updates of Heimat - Eine Deutsche Chronik (found name Wilfried of blond boy).
Image from unknown 1 film Heinzelmännchen DDR had been deleted (or moved) after 3 weeks (I tried image search by image, so I have uploaded it again).

After Blogger's update of its UI, the reaction votes had been set to 0, but on this blog I hadn't much either. But again malfunctions and problems of Blogger. And who needs Google+ (including having to tell your real name?)
Blogger is still very slow on updating the blog feeds. I do this on Google Reader. Uncomfortable and still slow today.

Max Havelaar of de koffieveilingen der Nederlandsche handelsmaatschappij

Drama
-Year: 1976
-Year in film: ~1850s
-Country: The Netherlands, Indonesia
-Who in clothing: boy ~8 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: others, historical clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: A young boy in white sailor suit, blue collar and hat, long scarf, long white pants (pictured), is this Klaas Jan Weert as Frits? And possibly some men in sailor suits. Famous novel by Maltatuli (Eduard Douwes Dekker), published 1860. Seems to be a very good film, unfortunately I don't know it yet completely. But I assume few good scenes. Film aka "Max Havelaar: Or the Coffee Auctions of the Dutch Trading Company" or just "Max Havelaar" and is about colonial policy and coffee. Won Bodil Awards for best European film, also starring Rutger Hauer, Peter Faber and others. I like Dutch films, filmed mainly in Indonesia (Java?), 163 minutes. Rating 5 for now.

Die Deutschmeister

Romance starring Romy Schneider
-Year: 1955
-Year in film: 1893
-Country: Austria
-Who in clothing: boys ~6-11 ys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: others, historical clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Some young boys, maybe 6-11 ys in buckskin Lederhosen (pictured), one older boy in longer black Tracht Lederhosen and I think also some young men. Lederhosen of the youngest boy are too large. Picture from song "Wenn die Vögel musizieren" (by Romy Schneider and the kids). Also starring Gunther Philipp, Hans Moser, Paul Hörbiger and others. Sorry, I don't know/ don't remember this musical Heimatfilm / romance and didn't had the time to watch it completely and have to check it the next TV broadcasting. International title "A March For the Emperor" (the title of this film is the title of this march). Plot is about this march, written in 1893 and most costumes look like that time (dresses, uniforms) and different than the scene above. I assume few Lederhosen scenes (perhaps only in this song) and most boys are very young. Not a real Heimatfilm. Only rating 4 for now for Lederhosen scenes. I don't like those films either.

So Big (1953)

Romance, novel by Edna Ferber. Golden Globe
-Year: 1953
-Year in film: 1890s ?
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: women, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: no *
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Some women in sailor dresses (pictured), I don't know the names of all actresses. Starring Jane Wyman, Sterling Hayden, Nancy Olson and others. Also starring 8 yo Tommi Rettig (Lassie 1954) in flashbacks, but I don't know of any sailor suit scenes with him. Sadly I don't know this complete film. Famous novel published in 1924 and have been filmed before in 1924 and 1932 starring Barbara Stanwyck. Only rating 3 for now but have to check again. I don't like women in sailor suits. Maybe film or other scenes are good. Not officially released on DVD nor VHS, however there might be some offers online.

Info 18: New pics Lederhosen, boys, girls, women

by mike3k flickr. Oktoberfest 2007 Florida

Today I searched on flickr for Lederhosen and scout pics. All are with Creative Commons license (mostly cc-by-sa-nc-nd).
Most pics are from Oktoberfests (partly in Florida). One with sailor suit. Few free scouting pics. I also searched for scout films elsewhere but none yet with real Lederhosen.

Story 4: In sailor suit at Oktoberfest (1921)

Documentary Oktoberfest 1900-2000
-Year: 2002
-Year in film: ~1921
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: girls ? sailor dress
-Available on DVD: no?
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Interesting documentary (30 min.) called "Damals... Ein Jahrhundert im Wiesnrausch" showing some scenes  and the change of the Oktoberfest during the decades of the last century. First scenes from 1910. Picture showing the 1920s and I understood 1921. Only few of the kids there in sailor suits and none in Lederhosen (I wonder why). Pictured a boy in blue white striped sailor suit and blue collar (3 stripes) and a flat hat (looks almost like a cowboy hat with the strap) and I think the other kid is a girl. Then another girl with a scarf, but I don't think that's a real sailor dress. They are watching at a puppet theatre, one attraction at the Oktoberfest. First Wiesn after WWI. But also throughout the decades no good scenes of Lederhosen (except for some men) and no kids or teens. However very interesting also the historic attractions, which aren't there today, except for some few like the Krinoline. I like vintage films and this is real clothing and no actors in costumes. This is rather a story entry, but I rate this 3 due to few sailor suit scenes.

Un peu de fièvre

Short film about a choir boy
-Year: 2003
-Year in film: 1990s ?
-Country: Belgium *
-Who in clothing: boy 13 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: other boys, sailor suit, lycra
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes DVD
-Clothing occurence: medium *
-Rating:  7/10
-Rating: *******
-Comment: Ivan de la Roncière (pictured right, on right singing as young Alexandre) and boys of the Zürcher Sängerknaben (Suiss boys choir of Zurich) in blue sailor suits with long collars and 3 stripes. Good film also showing swimming scenes. This short film is on the DVD "L'Or des Anges") which is a documentary of different boys choirs (Austrian, German, British, French and Polish). Pic below showing some boys of the Vienna Boys Choir (Wiener Sängerknaben), and one boy gets his sailor suit uniform. These are hanging in the background. Scene is from DVD extras. As well as pic on top left, which has a different aspect ratio. DVD is perfect, another extra is a boys choir festival called Rejoice, also featuring many further choirs around the world, including Dutch and Norwegian. 3 making ofs, outtakes and image gallery. Main film also showing 2 French boys in lycra suits as cats. Of course lots of classic music like Mozart, Vivaldi, Bach and M. Schumann.

DVD is RC0, language French (+ English and German for the main film) + subtitles. 52 minutes, extras 80 minutes (incl. this short film of 18 min.)
Few sailor suits scenes of Vienna, so mainly in the short film (aka "A Slight Fever"). For that rating 7.

Übermut im Salzkammergut

Musical Heimatfilm starring Helga Sommerfeld
-Year: 1963
-Year in film: 1960s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~ 14 ys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: boy ~6ys, men, Lederhosen
-Available on DVD: no?
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  8/10
-Rating: ********
-Comment: Some teen boys in different buckskin Tracht Lederhosen (pictured) light brown, black and grey. Best scene within the song "Ich kauf mir lieber einen Tirolerhut" by Billy Mo (pictured, not be be confused with the 1965 film with the same title). View frontside only. First Lederhosen scene at 0:45 (a young boy ~6, backside only). Also some young (and old) men in Lederhosen, sometimes sitting. Also young girl Klein Martina ~6 in Dirndl singing "Immer dicker wird mein Papi". I don't like those Schlager songs and also not most parts of this film. But few scenes are very good. Later they hold their Tyrolean hats in their hands. There is also another song with a similar scene but I think with one teen boy and in black Lederhosen only. Also starring Hannelore Auer, Claus Biederstaedt and Franz Muxeneder. Rating 8. Couldn't find any DVD nor VHS releases.

Wenn jeder Tag ein Sonntag wär

Comedy film starring Georg Thomalla
-Year: 1973
-Year in film: 1970s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: Erich ~ 12 ys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: tight jeans bermudas, speedos
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Mark Ramershoven (pictured) in buckskin Lederhosen. With buttons, no zippers. Some short scenes in the middle (inside room) and end of the film (forest) together with his sister who wears a dress. One short view from behind but much worse. Also he and another boy in colorful longer retro speedos (outdoor pool, lots of people) and he also in very very tight rip off medium blue jeans bermudas. (Perhaps I have to create a speedo and jeans shorts blog).
Typical film of the 1970s (fashion, yellow shirt). I don't like it much and it's not very funny for me. Also starring Peter Weck, Heinz Reincke, Irene Sheer and Chris Roberts also singing). Austrian title "Liebesgrüße vom Wörthersee", international title: "If Every Day Was Sunday". Film rating 3, Speedo rating 5, Jeans rating 9, Lederhosen rating 4-5.

Miss Potter

Biography starring Renée Zellweger
-Year: 2006
-Year in film: ~1876
-Country: UK, USA
-Who in clothing: Beatrix 12 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: Bertram ~7 ys, sailor suit
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: I think this is 12 yo Lucy Boynton as young Beatrix Potter (pictured right in white sailor dress, long blue scarf, white collar with many stripes and an anchor) and Oliver Jenkins in blue sailor suit (left as young brother Bertram). Both with straw hats. I found this movie by coincidence and don't know it. But looks like a very good period film starring Zellweger as grown up author Beatrix Potter, Ewan McGregor and Emily Watson. Nominated for a Golden Globe, rated PG. Bonyton was nominated for A Young Artist Award.
Good scenes, the girl gets dirty but I assume few scenes of the children, the girl also wears a dress. And the kids are very young. But might be good film. Have to check it completely, but rating 5 for now only.

Brausepulver - Geschichten aus den fünfziger Jahren

TV kids series about the 50s, 5 episodes
-Year: 1989
-Year in film: 1950s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~12, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: no
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: medium- ?
-Rating:  7/10
-Rating: *******
-Comment: Some boys in buckskin Lederhosen. Pics above from episode "Die Mine" at least one boy (Gert ?) in Lederhosen (with H-style suspenders), but I remember also a scene inside a classroom, so maybe some more. Pic below at least 2 boys in Lederhosen, episode "Bertha und die Stürmer". This episode is about a girl (not pictured) dressed up as a boy (incl getting her hair cut) and played soccer with the boys. Some funny scenes as the boys peed together and she won't join. She also headed to the girls' bathroom and a boy noticed that. Girl in short pants (not Lederhosen). Also a bathing scene in a tin bathtub, I think her younger brother. Good series about kids in the 1950s Germany after WWII (won a Grimme Award). I think not yet on DVD and unfortunately I only have some few parts on VHS in very bad quality. I don't remember the other 3 episodes but might also include Lederhosen scenes. Quite long episodes à 45 minutes. There is also a childrens book of this series (not sure if with pics, probably but perhaps real vintage pics and not from this series). I prefer alpine films and landscapes instead of bombed cities. Aka "Brausepulver - Geschichten aus den 50er Jahren". But rating 7.

Update: 2 better pics. I think the Lederhosen of the boy in pic 2 are smooth finished.

Seven Little Australians (1973)

TV family series, 10 episodes

-Year in film: 1880s
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boy, teen girl, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: others in historical clothings
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: At least a girl and a boy in sailor suit salor dresses. White collar of this girl is short and rather round. Sorry, I don't know their names and the complete series. I think I haven't seen it yet or don't remember. I found this by coincidence searching for another Australian series featuring bib overalls (coming soon on my other blog). Famous novel by Ethan Turner published in 1894. And there are also other (related) films, series and stage plays. Looks very good and I have to check it. Starring Barbara Llewellyn, Mark Clarke and others. Logie Award 1974 for best New Drama. Family friendly (Dove Foundation). Rating 6 for now. Some parts are on YouTube, but no real trailer.

The Music Man (1962)

Musical film starring Robert Preston, 1 Oscar
-Year: 1962
-Year in film: 1912
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boy, girls, women, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: overalls, breeches
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes *
-Clothing occurence: often
-Rating:  9/10
-Rating: *********
-Comment: I think about 4 young girls in different sailor dresses (pictured), one with pigtails. I don't know her name. Also women of all ages in sailor dresses and Ron Howard in a short white sailor suit, white collar, red stripes and one standard suit (patterned jacket with a collar). And lots of others in historical clothings, including hats and boys in breeches and boots (at 1h02 and even dancing at 1h56). Also 3 boys (2 shirtless) and men in bib overalls (see my other blog).

Update: I have finally bought this DVD (cropped 4:3 UK version, see other blog). Much more sailor dresses than thought (most at 0:31) and even Ron Howard (2 short scenes, one sitting as pictured, one walking (at 0:45).

I like this film (rating 10/10 for shirtless bib overalls scenes). Also perfect songs (like Wells Fargo Wagon by Ron Howard (pictured below) and others).
There is also a 2003 remake which I still have to check again.
For more informations and overalls pics, see my overalls blog. For sailor suits now rating 9 (was 7).
Pic below showing Ron Howard shortly after singing "Wells Fargo Wagon". The girl with the pigtails watched him. Also showing a girl and woman in sailor dresses in the background.

At 1h25 there are some old, fat and ugly women dancing in sailor dresses. One of the oldest women in sailor dresses and also the longest collar I've seen so far (will make an separate entry of that soon). Perfect musical and costumes, good plot. Timeless. Movie is 145 minutes long.

/2011/11/story-13-old-women-in-sailor-dresses.html

Now I have also checked the 2003 version, rating 4. 10 yo Winthrop. Few scenes.

Sêrâ-fuku to kikanjû

"Sailor Suit and Machine Gun"
-Year: 1981
-Year in film: 1980s ?
-Country: Japan
-Who in clothing: Izumi ~17 ys, sailor dresses
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: often ?
-Rating:  4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Hiroko Yakushimaru as tomboy Hoshi, Izumi (pictured) in at least 3 different school sailor dresses (sailor-fuku, seifuku). Blue and white collars. Also stripes on the white dress. One of the few films with sailor suit in the title. Interesting title and weird film. I don't know the complete film and only saw some clips on YouTube. Romance / crime film about a drug dealer and a school gang. Novel by Jirô Akagawa. Not sure if other actors in sailor suits as well. I don't like this film but wanted to add it. So rating 4 for now only. I think there are also other Japanese films with sailor suits (boys) and will add them. There is also a later TV series. Original Japanese title セーラー服と機関銃

Le avventure di Pinocchio (1972)

Family TV mini series, 6 episodes
-Year: 1972
-Year in film: 1880s ?
-Country: Italy
-Who in clothing: Pinocchio 9 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Andrea Balestri in a green sailor suit (pictured) and other historical clothes (also with a pointed hat). Good film (maybe the best version) of this famous classic novel. I have seen this movie once or twice some years ago, but can't remember all scenes. As he also wears lots of other clothes I assume rather few or medium sailor suit scenes. I like this film and the green sailor suit is something special (though doesn't look very elegant), but the boy is very young. So rating 5 only, but I hope for a soon TV broadcasting. Directed by Luigi Comencini, costumes designed by Piero Gherardi. Not sure of other good actors and I will also check other Pinocchio films. Green sailor suits also appeared in "The Sound of Music", see that entry.
