Exclusive pic#29 boys in sailor suits on beach, 1920s

This tiny photo showing a happy German family sitting and lined up on a beach. Is that a game? 2 boys, thereof one teen boy in short striped sailor suits. A girl in between touching the sailor collar of her older brother.

I can't say much more about it. According to the flag on the right (is that a War flag?, I'm not an flag expert.) I assume the date around the mid 1920s, but could be early 1930s. One young man wearing a bathrobe on the beach. Quite unusual.

Broadway Melody of 1940

Musical starring Fred Astaire
-Year: 1940
-Year in film: 1940
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: men, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: often ?
-Rating:  3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least many sailors in dark sailor suits, quite long collars and white sailor's hats. And at least a woman in a white maritim dress.

I found this earlier during research for another similar movies starring Eleanor Powell (see "Born to Dance (1936)" and Honolulu (1939), both also rating 3, which are similar movies but not starring Fred Astaire).

Typical (annual) Broadway show. I don't know this complete movie. Maybe someone likes like. Directed by Norman Taurog, also starring George Murphy, Frank Morgan and Florence Rice.

Rating (2-) 3 like all similar b&w movies with adults.

The Turn of the Screw (1992)

Thriller starring Patsy Kensit
-Year: 1992
-Year in film: 1960s
-Country: UK, France
-Who in clothing: Miles ~9, Flora ~ 7 ?, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: other clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: At least Joseph England and Claire Szekeres both  in white sailor suits, dark blue collars, 3 stripes.  Sorry no pic of the boy in sailor suit yet.

I don't know/don't remember this complete horror movie aka Obsession, directed by Rusty Lemorande ("Yentl"). Seems very interesting, at least the plot and setting. Famous 1898 ghost story by Henry James, though this is (mostly or always ?) set in the 1960s. There are also a lot of other and probably better "Turn of the Screw" movies (and a later maybe more famous opera by Britten) but I don't know of any with sailor suits, though some interesting historical clothing and top hats (other entries like a BBC version coming soon).

Now at

/2012/11/02/the-turn-of-the-screw-2009/

(rating 4 as well).

Rating 4 for now, but I have to check this again later when I have more time. However, I assume few good scenes.

Happy Halloween!

A 1910s girl in a light blue sailor dress with long collar (or is this a boy?) Probably not. Although boys often looked female then, often had longer hair and sometimes even wore dresses.

Info 142: Update: Melodien der Berge, etc

I found on my hard disc recorder this scene of "Melodien der Berge" of this kids called "Engelsstimmen" singing with Benjamin Grund the song "Es waren zwei Königskinder". One more pic of the 2 other boys at the entry. Different but long buckskin Lederhosen and handsome boys. Sorry, that I haven't found it earlier.

I haven't added more pics of the other non-music kids. There's already a link of one.

/2012/10/07/melodien-der-berge/

Also updated "mia san mia" (episode 2, girl, women and men in Lederhosen, no boys, no pics)

/2012/10/20/mia-san-mia-die-bayerische-talentshow/

The Wind and the Lion had also been rebroadcasted. Next to the girl also sailor men in sailor suits. No need for more pics, There are 3 with the boy and girl alread.

Tea with Mussolini

Drama starring Cher

-Year in film: 1935
-Country: Italy, UK
-Who in clothing: boy Luca ~10 yo, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: Luca in dress
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: low ?
-Rating:  5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Charlie Lucas (pictured) in a white sailor suit, blue collar, 3 stripes, also wearing a blue beret. And also a blue dress or similar with a white tie. And at least other grown-ups in historical clothing and partly very big hats. And soldier men in uniforms.

Unfortunately I don't remember this complete movie and have to check it again the next broadcasting. There is also an 18 yo Luca (played by Baird Wallace), so probably not many sailor suit scenes. Also starring Joan Plowright (I like her in "I am David"),  Judi Dench and Maggie Smith (BAFTA Award). Rated PG.

Rating 5 for now due to the young age and few scenes. But maybe an interesting plot and good setting.

Dort in der Wachau

Heimatfilm starring Gerlinde Locker

-Who in clothing 2: boy, pants suspenders
-Available on DVD: VHS only
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: medium ??
-Rating:  6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Some young sailor men including Wolfgang Jansen ("Kli-Kla-Klawitter") in dark blue sailor suits with very long blue collars (pictured). Also one young boy in long pants with suspenders, maybe Lederhosen. Is this Kurti Alder?

The movie is completely on YouTube but in very low resolution and it doesn't have the quick preview pics yet. I don't have the time to watch it completely, so I have to check this again later. I like long sailor's collar and the movie is maybe quite interesting.

Also starring Wolf Albach-Retty, Albert Rueprecht and Fritz Muliar. Film aka "Donau-Mädel".

Rating 6 for now. I hope for a soon broadcasting.

Born to Dance (1936)

Starring Eleanor Powell, James Stewart and Virginia Bruce. I found this during research for Honolulu (1939), rating 3, also starring Eleanor Powell in a sailor dress.

I don't know this complete movie and have to check it again later. Maybe a typical movie / musical with sailors. There are some clips on YouTube but maybe no need to embed them.

Rating 3 for now.

Kindergarten (1989)

Drama
-Year: 1989
-Year in film: 1980s ?
-Country: Argentina
-Who in clothing: boy, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: low ??
-Rating:  5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least a boy (maybe  9 yo) in a medium blue sailor suit (white collar) and in a short white sailor suit, dark blue pants and collar (pictured). Also other scenes without clothes.

Seems to be very interesting  but I haven't seen the entire movie. Obviously also a rare late setting featuring sailor suits. Directed by Jorge Polaco.  I think not available on DVD nor VHS. Few infos on the web and I don't know the name of the actors. Maybe the boy is Luciano Sanguineri?

I have to check this again.

Rating 4-5 for now (for sailor suit scenes, though I like white collars), probably higher for the movie itself. Also a high IMdb rating of 7.5

Info 141: New stats

Not much new in the stats. TOP 5 is unchanged. 2 places changed in the TOP 10. New in the TOP 5 for sailor suits is Fanny och Alexander. On Picasa the exclusive 7 (Teen boy in sailor suit) has much more hits (1434) than the boys backside (#4) which has 1316. On the blog stats #4 has 214 and #7 has 83 (alltime). So much more hits through Picasa (or better Google image search).

Lederhosen showing some Oktoberfest entry and pics but I haven't found any of interest. There are quite few entries on most tags, so I assume they now have selected entries.

Exclusive pic#28 boy cycling in sailor suit

A boy about 11 yo cycling in a dark sailor suit. The collar is quite long. Long dark stockings Quite handsome. I can't say much more about it. It's a small real photo postcard. The boy is/was probably German. Date maybe 1920s but could be early 1930s or 1910s. The bike looks quite modern. There's is high wooden fence, maybe he was driving though a park. It doesn't look too rural with the high buildings in the background. I bought this from a seller in Munich but that doesn't mean anything. He also looks quite happy and was probably proud of his bike. Also note the shoes. They are not as dark, maybe brown. Not sure about the color of the suit and the stockings, maybe both even black.

mia san mia - Die bayerische Talentshow

2 young boys in long Lederhosen making musik. Also men and obviously women in Lederhosen as well. I missed most of this new show. Some close up-s of the Lederhosen. Maybe the next episodes on Fridays are also of interest or even better.

http://www.br.de/fernsehen/bayerisches-fernsehen/sendungen/mia-san-mia/mia-san-mia-kandidaten-100.html

Episode 2: One young girl in red Lederhosen singing, 2 Women in short Lederhosen and older men in longer Lederhosen.

Der Raub der Sabinerinnen (1960)

Comedy film starring Helga Piur
-Year: 1960
-Year in film: 1960 ?
-Country: East Germany
-Who in clothing: woman ~20, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  2/10 ?
-Rating: **
-Comment: At least Helga Piur (pictured with Gerd André) in an intersting dress with a sailor like collar. Many stripes.

I found this by coincidence. There are 17 different movies. This one is based on the famous play by Franz and Paul von Schoenthan which is based on the Rome's myth Romulus and Remus (War With the Sabines).

I don't know/don't remember this and the other movies and have to check them again the next broadcasting.

Rating 2 for now. B&w and no real sailor suit. For the sake of completion. Maybe someone likes it.

Not to be confused with the Italian movie, filmed in 1960 released in 1961 "Il ratto delle sabine". So the 1960 version is probably not available on DVD. There are 2 different stage plays on DVD available (1964 and 1998).

Euch werd ich's zeigen

DEFA family film
-Year: 1973
-Year in film: 1970s
-Country: Germany ?
-Who in clothing: boy, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: shorts, speedos, soviet scarves
-Available on DVD: no
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: medium
-Rating:  7/10
-Rating: *******
-Comment: At least one boy in typical tight Lederhosen, can't say the fabric maybe nappa, 2 zippers. But also some more boy actors in (buckskin ?) Lederhosen or at least shorts. Also kids (f/m) wearing soviet scarves. And also Judo suits. There are also swimming scenes (indoor pool). The main character is 13 yo Bernd (Friedhelm Barck), not sure if this is the boy pictured, but probably, although looking younger.

Unfortunately I don't know/ don't remember this movie. Plot and scenes look very interesting. Directed by famous Rolf Losansky ("Moritz in der Litfaßsäule" (rating 5), "Weiße Wolke Carolin", "Das Schulgespenst")

I have to check this again. I think this awarded film (Lucas Award and others) is not available on DVD nor VHS yet.

Rating 5-6 for now. Though some older boys I prefer color movies and Heimatfilms.

Some more pics and infos here

http://www.progress-film.de/de/filmarchiv/film.php?id=1256

Update: rather fewer scenes than assumed but the boy is very handsome. Also other good scenes like speedo. Previously rating 5, now 6-7. I like smooth finish Lederhosen.

Update 2: 3 more pics including rear view, side view and fighting scene with others.

Iglo (advertisement)

Short Iglo TV ad
-Year: 1980s ?
-Year in film: 1980s
-Country: Germany ?
-Who in clothing: boys and girls, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:sailor
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: often *
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Some older boys and one younger boy and I think some girls in white long sailor suits, sailor's hat and blue collars with one thick stripe. And one old sailor in a black suit "Käpt'n Iglo" (played by Gerd Deutschmann, who did on December 21, 2011, R.I.P.) who give away the products.

Usually I don't like adding ads, but I make an exception for this vintage one. I don't remember the exact production date, probably the late 1980s, but might be aired until the 90s. I'm not sure if all readers from foreign contries know this ad, though it might be dubbed for other countries as well. Maybe they were even non-German kids? Ad is for the fish sticks "Iglo Fischstäbchen". Very funny and interesting. Maybe there are different versions of this ad, but this is maybe the best known. I have to check out for other versions.

The product is still prodcued today and there are some more variations but also similar products from other companies. Maybe every kid likes them although most don't like fish. And adding lots of ketchup so they don't taste like fish. Often served with spinach. Now there are also chicken sticks, maybe often served with French fries.

Rating 6 for this very short ad.

Honolulu (1939)

Musical film starring Eleanor Powell
-Year: 1939
-Year in film: 1930s
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Millie ~44, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: I think at least Gracie Allen (pictured) in a white sailor dress. Eleanor Powell looks very similar but wearing a different white dress. Maybe there are more actors/actresses, maybe sailors in sailor suits as well. I only noticed sailors in other suits.

I found this by coincidence and have to check this completely. Maybe a good and typical MGM movie. Directed by Edward Buzzell. Also starring Robert Young, George Burns and Rita Johnson. There are probably some more similar movies starring Gracie Allen and or Eleanor Powell (in sailor dresses or similar as well). "In Broadway Melody of 1940" (also starring Powell) there are also sailors in sailor suits.

Rating 2-3 for now only.

Info 139: On TV: Skandal um Dr. Vlimmen 07.11

Finally this rare movie will be broadcasted on November 7th (about 03.00 in the morning on 3sat). I'm not sure if Lederhosen (but looks like, at least with suspenders), however starring some handsome and famous kid actors like young Stefan Haar but also older boys. Currently rating 8. b&w, Aka "Tierarzt Dr. Vlimmen (1956)"

Min søsters børn på bryllupsrejse

Comedy film starring Axel Strobye
-Year: 1967
-Year in film: 1980s
-Country: Denmark
-Who in clothing: boys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: girls alpine dress
-Available on DVD: yes *
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: low ?
-Rating:  5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least three boys ~ 4, 8, 12 yo (?) in short grey or similar buckskin Lederhosen with H-style suspenders and also Tyrolean hats and at least two some girls in alpine clothing and hats (pictured) also yodelling in a car. The yodelling sounds like The Lonely Goatherd from The Sound of Music. It's the second film in this series.

Quite interesting. Unfortunately I don't know/don't remember this movie. German title "Sünder überall" , English title "My Sister's Kids on Honeymoon" which are both not mentioned at IMDb. There is a Danish DVD, maybe just a German VHS.

I like Skandinavian movies and it's quite rare to show Lederhosen there. I have to check this and the other movies in this series. Looks quite interesting, but I assume few good Lederhosen scenes.

Rating 5 for now.

Spreepiraten

German family series, 26 ep.
-Year: 1989
-Year in film: 1980s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: Louise, Marie ~14, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: boy, jeans
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: low ?
-Rating:  3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least the two teen twins Franziska and Frederike Paproth in different sailor suits or at least shirts. White, red and I think also blue ones. Probably there are more actors in sailor suits or maritim looking clothing. The younger film brother Matze (Simon Jacombs) often or always wearing jeans and a cap. (He also appeared in "Kartoffeln mit Stippe", rating 10, but not in sailor suit but other historical clothing of the 1920.)

I wonder how I could miss this one as I already had an entry on my bib overalls blog (also rating 3, both girls in bibs and also a younger girl, see clip, updating on my other blog soon) and this pic is also from the DVD cover. I think I haven't had this blog then.

The series is much better and I liked it in the 80s, but I assume rather few good sailor suit and overalls scenes and I prefer boys anyway. However good and funny family entertainment. Typical German series of the 80s.

I hope for a soon broadcasting and have to check it completely (also the length of the collars, if sailor drsses and other actors as well).

Rating 3 for sailor suit scenes for now. No good sailor suit scenes in the intro clip.

Update: I have replaced the pic. Previously both in white sailor dresses and caps.

Exclusive pic#27 Three brothers Glatz

This photo postcard showing 3 brothers in different sailor suits. The backside states Meine 3 Brüder Walter, Rudy, Heinz. Probably in that order. I wonder what is about the 4th sibling. Maybe a girl or a much older boy who is somewhere else. Or ill or at war? The oldest boy has a rare collar, large and angled at the front and a short flap on the back. The youngest boy has a bigger or oversized collar, very short at the front. Also note that there are 5 stripes on it. And it looks like the collars touching each other. They also look quite happy.

Photographer Georg (?) Marx in Glatz (now Polish Kłodzko). I can't say the date, looks like early 1930s or 20s.

Info 138: Update: Die Prinzessin von St. Wolfgang

An update of "Die Prinzessin von St. Wolfgang" (1957) starring 12 or 13 yo Michael Ande (pictured) as Franzl after completely seen and announced. No notable other boys in Lederhosen, and a bit fewer scenes than though. But a good Heimatfilm with some good scenes, like some close-up scenes (front+back). His legs appeared very long.

Also some sailors. Still rating 6. But there are better (Ande) movies (check also the Ande list entry, tagged list).

Kindheit im Rampenlicht

Documentary Wiener Sängerknaben
-Year: 2007
-Year in film: 2000s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: other clothing, speedos
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: medium
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Boys of the Vienna Boys Choir (Wiener Sängerknaben) in different sailor suit. And also other clothing (regular clothing, speedos, fencing clothes). Main series is called "Am Schauplatz", this documentary by Peter Liska.

I found this old TV recording during research for updating my other blog (tag wet). Yet another good documentary of this choir. They mostly wear these modern medium blue collars with thinner stripes (see also the other Sängerknaben entries).

Different sailor suits, very dark blue or black suits and also white suits with dark blue collars (pictured). One interesting scene at one of their rooms some boys dressing on their sailor suits. The collar, dickey and even scarf are already attached to the jacket and just pulled over the head. So no difficult dressing  like in "Lord Jeff". They are proud wearing these uniforms and representing Austria.

This documentary mainly focussed on one blond freckled boy with glasses, also showing his parents. I think he is called Micky Winkelmayer (or similar, pictured below in the middle, Tyrolean) and another boy is called Jakob Koberer.

Good documentary. But for sailor suit scenes only rating 5-6.

Nanny McPhee

Family fantasy film starring Emma Thompson
-Year: 2005
-Year in film: 1940s
-Country: USA, UK, France
-Who in clothing: 7 boys+girls in hist. suits, collars
-Who in clothing 2: boy, bib overalls
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: 7 kids, I think 4 boys and 3 girls in different historical looking fantasy suits with collars and hats. Also grown ups in historical clothing. And a young boy in bib overalls (see my other blog, rating 5, including the sequel Nanny McPhee Returns (there also a girl in bib overalls)).

Had been aired some days ago. Quite interesting clothing. White long pants with the light green jackets. Also a little boy in a blue suit with a string tie. Also interesting the white suits with beige pants but black shoes at the end of the movie.

Not real sailor suits but I think this movie needs to have an entry here. Also starring 14 yo British Thomas Brodie-Sangster (I think on first pic), Raphael Coleman, Colin Firth and many others.

Pretty good and funny family film, but I missed the first half, but I think these clothing only appear later in this movie. Rated PG.

Rating 4-5 as they are not real sailor suits.

October 8, 2012

Info 137: Update: Die Landärztin (2005)

One young blond and freckled boy in short Lederhosen in ep 5 "Ein neues Leben". (pictured) Probably buckskin Lederhosen with Patina. No H-style suspenders. I think this must be Simon Jung as 10 yo Bastian.

This is much better than the boy in longer Lederhosen in ep. "Der Vaterschaftstest". See the main entry (then rating 4).

Modern Heimafilm series. I haven't seen much episodes, but I think rather few good Lederhosen scenes. Typical for these modern Heimatfilms.

I also have an entry on my bib overalls blog (women in overalls, also to be updated soon).

Rating 6 for this Lederhosen scene. Rebroadcasted on October 26th (ORF 2), but I can't receive that channel. For more infos see the main entry at

/2012/01/19/die-landarztin-2005/

The 1956 Heimatfilm "Wo die alten Wälder rauschen" will soon be rebroadcasted (rating 6).

Die Manns - Ein Jahrhundertroman

Biography mini series starring Armin Mueller-Stahl
-Year: 2001
-Year in film: 1927, later
-Country: Germany, A, SUI
-Who in clothing: Monika, man, woman, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: Elisabeth, Lederhosen, bathing costumes M/F
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: low ?
-Rating:  5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Some members of the Mann family and others in sailor suits/sailor dresses and Lederhosen. Also bathing costumes ond other historical clothing.

I think the first 2 pics showing Monika Mann. I'm not sure about the correct names of the actors as there are different time settings and most of the kids aren't credited on most databases. All pics are from the ep.1 set in 1927 (at least the beach scene, and some others maybe earlier). I think this is 25 yo Stefanie Stappenbeck (who played 16-43 yo Monika !).

Little Elisabeth Mann in beige Lederhosen with H-style suspenders (looks almost like a boy).

On the beach an older woman in a long white dress with a real and long sailor collar. Also kids and grown ups in bathing costume/bathing suits, but mostly far in the distance, one older teen boy in bathing trunks (also shown close-up).

The 5th pic showing 2 young men dancing together at a costume party, thereof one in a sailor suit being touched at the collar (same scene as pic 2).

Sadly I missed part 2 and the 2nd half of part 1 and so have to check it completely next time. I had too few space on my recorder.

Part 3 will be aired tonight, but is set in the 1940s.

Also starring Monica Bleibtreu, Veronica Ferres and Elisabeth Mann-Borgese herself. Quite interesting. Directed by Heinrich Breloer ("Eine geschlossene Gesellschaft", Lederhosen rating 6, "Die Buddenbrooks)". The sailor dresses, actors and plot are quite good, but there are better series.

Rating 5 for now.

Update: Some sailors in sailor suits in ep 3 (but I have only seen the first 50 minutes). Also 2 original b&w photos shown with kids in sailor suit in ep 1.

Melodien der Berge

Musical show
-Year: 1999-
-Year in film: 2012
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~8 yo, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: men, Lederhosen
-Available on DVD: yes *

-Rating:  4/10 *
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Boys and men in Lederhosen.

As announced this entry (rebroadcasting on Monday morning, probably also online /mediathek).

Episode of Oktober 6th, 2012. At the beginning/intro a young boy in Lederhosen. Later one boy called Thomas doing a Fingerhakeln contest with the host sitting on the alps (one younger boy in the background and some men, maybe including his father).  Dark cotton suspenders with colorful illustrations. Then 3 young boys, partly blond in longer black buckskin Lederhosen dancing Schuhplatter with girls also on the alps. Also men (musicians). Interesting different suspenders, partly light brown leather. One pic is at

I decided to not upload pics due to personal rights. The boys are also very young. I prefer the Fingerhakeln scene.

There is a best-of DVD box (so not this episode yet). Maybe there are other (older) boys and young men as well in other episodes. But I won't buy it unless I know for some better scenes.

Rating: Landscape: Rating 9-10, music (unrated, mostly grown-ups), Lederhosen 4-5, Boys 3-4, so total rating of 3-4 for this episode only.

One more entry later this day about the 3-part mini series "Die Manns - Ein Jahrhundertroman" (sailor suit /teen girl, men, women) and Lederhosen (little girl ?) and bathing clothes (teen boys)). Episode 3 will be aired tonight (but set in the 40s so probably fewer or none good scenes).

Update: I later found this kids pictured called "Engelsstimmen" singing with Benjamin Grund the song "Es waren zwei Königskinder".

Clarissas Geheimnis

Drama starring Paula Kalenberg
-Year: 2012
-Year in film: 2010s
-Country: Germany, Austria
-Who in clothing: Valentin ~12, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: other boys, Lederhosen
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: low
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Maximilian Grösswang and some other younger boys in longer brown buckskin Lederhosen with H-style suspenders (pictured) all showing front and backside. Quite handsome and interesting. Grösswang also skateboarding in dark blue jeans inside a building. Also quite good.

Typical modern Drama/ Heimatfilm (production company Degeto), so few Lederhosen scenes (not even of men), but could be worse. The only unusual thing is the beginning 15 minutes set in South Africa. The rest is set in Austria (Steiermark), probably with Austrian kids acting as part of a rich family.

Also starring Katja Riemann, Friedrich van Thun and Herbert Knaup. Directed by Xaver Schwarzenberger ("Otto - Der Film"), "Maragrete Steiff".

Rating 5-6 although few scenes.

Can be watched online (ARD mediathek, the next 7 days). First Lederhosen scenes at about 28 minutes.

Die große Chance (1957)

Romance musical film starring Walter Giller
-Year: 1957
-Year in film: 1950s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boy ~11, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: boys, shorts
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: low
-Rating:  4/10 *
-Rating: ****
-Comment: One boy, about 11 yo in light brown buckskin Lederhosen without suspenders (pictured), just 2 short scenes. I don't know his name. And the Lederhosen are a bit too big (or the boy too thin). Blond boy but not very handsome. The other actor (main boy character and film brother of Walter Giller) is12 or 13 yo Harald Martens as Eugen (also starring in Vater, Mutter und neun Kinder", rating 7). Good light grey shorts. He's often shown and not as thin. There is also an older third boy in dark grey shorts sitting together in a bar and later going outside. The boy in Lederhosen was wearing then dark blue shorts.

Typical romance/musical/comedy film of the late 1950s. I have announced this movie earlier, now finally a complete entry. Also starring singer Freddy Quinn, comedian Gisela Schlüter and Gardy Granass. Novel by Aldo von Pinelli. Directed by Hans Quest ("Wenn der Vater mit dem Sohne" "Tante Frieda - Neue Lausbubengeschichten" (rating 8), "Charleys Tante").

I don't like this movie. And the few Lederhosen scenes are weak. I think not shown from behind.

Rating 3-4 for Lederhosen scenes, the shorts scenes are much better.

Update: I forgot to add the tag choir. There's a men's choir but boy soloist Harald Mertens singing very well a catching tune. Also quite good jeans.

Exclusive pic#26 communion boys Amiens

This photo postcard showing two communion boys from Amiens, France. Completely dressed in white (except for the collars), including white shoes, short socks and gloves and the white ribbon at their arms. The right boy has a regular sailor collar, 3 stripes but the collar flaps seems to be short. Also note the white scarf. The boy on the left has an unusual very long collar (at least at the front and maybe at the back as well, I wish I could see it). The collar (maybe both) are simply put over the head. So no complicated binding at the waist and no dickeys. Left collar has 5 thin stripes. Quite interesting.

Photographer was called Crampon. Maybe made in the 1920s. Click for high res pic.

Info 134: Update: Die Landärztin (1958)

Unfortunately no more other scenes, but the scene of the blond shirtless boy in Lederhosen doing hay work is quite good although in the distance.

In fact I already had an entry with the original title "Die Landärztin vom Tegernsee", and also had seen it completely but missed this short scene (originally rated 1-2, with a pic of another boy maybe in Lederhosen or shorts, this time I missed that one.) I often watch movies at high speed and sometimes leaving the room for a short time or don't watch to the screen for one moment.

Rating 4-5 now.

M (1931)

B&W thriller, Director Fritz Lang
-Year: 1931
-Year in film: 1930
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boy ~8, girl ~5, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: very low ?
-Rating:  3/10 *
-Rating: ***
-Comment: One young boy and one even younger girl in sailor suit/sailor dress. The girl is pictured in pic 2+3.

Thanks for this suggestion! I only checked this movie on YouTube at high speed and I only noticed this very short scenes of kids (the boy right at the beginning, the girl at 13 minutes). At least her collar is shown close-up. If there are more scenes, please comment.

Very famous movie aka "M - Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder", (Morders Among Us) starring Peter Lorre, Theo Lingen and Gustaf Gründgens. Timeless plot about a child murderer. Maybe b&w movies and not for everyone and for the few sailor suit scenes I can't give a higher  rating than 2-3. It's also nothing special that kids wearing sailor suit in the early 1930s. However it's quite rare to show kids in thrillers. I think Metropolis (1927) is much better and even more famous.

I have seen this movie many years ago and couldn't remember all scenes, so I will check and update it again the next broadcasting. I also have updated Rheinsberg (1967) but no need for more pics. Still rating 6 (good but few period clothing, including bathing costumes/suits). Die Landärztin (1958) will be updated in 1 or 2 days (see previous entry).

October 2, 2012

Info 133: On TV Today Oct. 3rd

Now Running "Die Landärztin" (1958) , pictured, confirmed boy in Lederhosen on 3sat. Rebroadcasting tonight. Entry coming soon.

Then "Schwarzwaldmädel" (1950) rating 4 (I have seen it completely)

/2011/12/31/schwarzwaldmadel-1950/

Then Rheinsberg (1967), sailor suits, I don't know completely yet, (already have some pics, rating 6 for now), will be updated soon

/2011/12/16/rheinsberg-1967/

There was also a 4th Heimatfilm which will be rebroadcasted, but I don't assume Lederhosen scenes in that.

At least one regular entry later this day.

Update: One pic yet of Die Landärztin. A shirtless boy in Lederhosen and some others working in the hay. Sadly no good close-up view. Later a very youg boy in Lederhosen, also in the distance. I can't say more yet, as I missed about the first half. Later only this scene of interest. I have to check it tomorrow at the rebroadcasting.

Das Münchner Oktoberfest - Die Erfindung einer bayerischen Erfolgsgeschichte

Documentary, Oktoberfest and traditional clothing
-Year: 2010
-Year in film: 2010, earlier
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: other traditional clothing
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Some kids in traditional clothing, including boys in long Lederhosen. Also historical b&w footage of the Oktoberfest. So maybe more in Lederhosen. Probably at least men.

Had been aired last Saturday and had been rebroadcasted yesterday. Documentary with this title, the main show was called THEMA: Oktoberfest 2012. Unfortunately I missed about the first half. Interesting (short) history of traditional (Bavarian) clothing (Tracht, I didn't knew that it was originated from aristocrats, obviously the Wittelsbacher) and of course the history of the Oktoberfest. Sadly it can't be watched again (no mediathek). But maybe it will be rebroadcasted later (maybe next year or perhaps even earlier on a different channel).

One very short scene and only this two frames are of interest (from what I've recorded).  Good brown real Lederhosen 5th boy on the left (1st pic). Also some close-up scenes (of Lederhosen, I thought there were short Lederhosen). Some kids can't be seen as they are behind the girls. Extremely flat straw hat the girl on the left is wearing. At the end there were thanks to Volkstheater Flintsbach (and Freilichtmuseum Glentleiten, capella vocale Iffeldorf and others). So I think they might be a kids theater group (of Flintsbach, probably in 2010) as the girls were saying some historical theatralic words.

I hope that I will see it again.

Rating 5 for now.

Info 132: Update Der Bauerndoktor von Bayrischzell

As announced an update of this movie after completely seen.

Rare movie with girls, teen girls, boys (and of course men) in Lederhosen. But fewer scenes than thought. Still rating 5. Not available on DVD/VHS. 2 more pics including  a shirtless boy at the doctor at the main entry.
