As announced the 2 clips. Aled Jones full VHS 60 minutes and 15 minutes Jongens van 15 , including Coir boys from the Rotterdams Jongenskoor. I had a post about this choir, maybe including this boy
This is my 2nd blog about feature films, TV series and documentaries with boys, girls, men and women in sailor suits, Lederhosen and other historical clothing of the 19th century and beyond. I collect informations, trailer videos, low-res images and personal comments/ratings. This blog was introduced in 2011. 2012-2020 on Wordpress. Now I'm back. Update will take a while.

Info: Aled Jones: Voices From the Holy Land, Jongens van 15
Long uploads coming tomorrow, MO. Jongens van 15 (upcoming clip 2, very rare documentary series, pictured) has a Dutch choir boy also showing other boys in a sailor suit, from the Rotterdams Jongenskoor Boys Choir. Looking younger. With hat.
Aled Jones not in a sailor suit but also of interest. Full VHS. Hopefully it won't be blocked.
Please also check my other very rare clips on YouTube, channel 1user254. Like shiny shorts, US Lifeguard and Auf die Plätze..., Potje Sport (Potje Voetbal), speedos, Gli anni d'oro 1992 (bib overalls) etc.

–Year in film: 1990s
–Country: NL, others
–Who in clothing: Abeltje ~10, sailor suits
–Who in clothing 2:
–Available on DVD: yes

–Comment: New post. The main character in a blue sailor suit (or blouse) with white sailor's cap and basecap. I think one brief scene only. Scene at 35 minutes.
English title: The Flying Liftboy. There's also a 2000 extended series but I haven't checked that.
I think I don't like this movie. Modern setting (unlike the 50s novel), few scenes. Rating ~2-3.

I have completed uploading all clips from Haydaze, and I uploaded some more pics to my Google Photos album (including boy in shiny shorts, clip not found yet).
I also have uploaded this 1996 clip with a very handsome blond Dutch boy, and another one in coveralls. Is this still a bowlcut?
I will upload some more rare vids the next days, most with bib overalls, but also others (I don't recall Lederhosen, maybe some with sailor suits, so I won't announce them all on this or my other blog. One should follow my channel.

"The Most Beautiful Boy in the World" is a documentary about Björn Andrésen (Morte a Venezia/Death in Venice, rating 7). I don't like that haircut and prefer haircuts like this.

Dik Trom en zijn dorpsgenoten (1973)
Family film #5, remake based on book series
–Year: 1973
–Year in film: 1890s ?
–Country: The Netherlands
–Who in clothing: Piet ~9 ?, sailor suit
–Who in clothing 2: hist. clothes
–Available on DVD: yes
–I own: no
–Clothing occurrence: medium+
–Rating: 4/10 ?
–Rating: ****
–Comment: At least one boy I think character Piet van Dril (unknown actor) in a white sailor suit. Long blue collar flap. White cap. Several scenes.
Movie is originally in b&w. Pic from a colorized version. There's also a 1947 movie but I haven't found that one.
The character Flipse was wrong as it's a man *1937. Boy on left probably Gerrie Hendriks as Jantje Vos, middle Peter Erven as Dik Trom.
I also have Dik Trom weet raad (1976) color rating 5, I now think Ferdy Vroomen as Piet. Another movie is Dik Trom knapt het op (Dik Trom knap't het op) b&w and some more movies but most not having sailor suits.

Voor een verloren soldaat
Coming of age movie/WWII
–Year: 1992
–Year in film: 1944, 45
–Country: NL
–Who in clothing: girl ~10 ? sailor dress
–Who in clothing 2: boys, hist clothes, shorts
–Available on DVD: yes
–I own: yes
–Clothing occurrence: low-
–Rating: 3/10 * (7/10)
–Rating: ***
–Comment: Mainly one blonde pigtailed girl in a medium blue sailor dress. Long matching collar, white boarder. Also some few front views but few and brief scenes and most from a distance. Also Dutch boys in historical clothes, shorts knickers, white underwear (side view) or less (brief rear view only). Few uniforms (men only).
I have now completely rechecked this DVD. I used to buy these coming of age movies ~15 years ago. Great plot and handsome boy (Maarten Smit), but for some reason one of my least watched movies.
Better are of course the other scenes of the boy.
English title: For a Lost Soldier. Autobiographical novel by Rudi van Dantzig. Produced by Matthijs van Heijningen (Ciske de rat, Kees de Jongen).
The German DVD has Dutch audio only (Dutch/German subtitles). RC0.
Sailor dress scenes ~rating 3. Movie rating 7-8. Translated novels are OOP and usually very expensive. A Dutch ebook is available including longer preview.

Dik Trom weet raad
Family film, #7 based on book series
–Year: 1976
–Year in film: 1890s ?
–Country: The Netherlands
–Who in clothing: Piet ~9 ?, sailor suit
–Who in clothing 2: hist. clothes
–Available on DVD: yes
–I own: no
–Clothing occurrence: medium+ ?
–Rating: 5/10 ?
–Rating: *****
–Comment: At least one boy in a sailor suit with dark blue collar, 3 stripes. Grey, knee-length knickers, Light blue, striped blouse, white sailor's hat, fixed with a string and wooden clogs.
A friend of the main character, probably Ferdy Vroomen as Piet van Dril (Flipse is a man). He also starred in other movies of this series, I also found that character in Dik Trom en zijn dorpsgenoten (1973 remake of the 1947 version of the same name), same clothes but movie is in b&w, also available as colorized version. Also in Dik Trom knapt het op. Other actor in sailor suit in Dik Trom en het circus (1960), b&w.
There are 11 movies and a 2012 musical, but I think most of the modern movies not showing sailor suits. Famous is the 2010 version, probably no sailor suit scenes (looks modern, and have bathing costumes). There should be a 2018 film Uit het leven van Dik Trom, but I haven't found that one.
I found this by coincidence during research.

Update: Apenstreken
Some boys in historical clothes including sailor suits. I previously had an entry in 2016 but made an update in Aug 2018 with new pics after checking the complete movie.
Rating was 6.
Also a girl in a medium blue sailor dress. Was also on my pigtails blog. Handsome boy in traditional farm clothes and wooden clogs.
Main entry with another new pic

Apenstreken
3D family film
–Year: 2015
–Year in film: 1900
–Country: NL
–Who in clothing: girl, boy ~9 ? sailor suit
–Who in clothing 2: others hist cl.
–Available on DVD: yes
–I own: no
–Clothing occurrence: medium-
–Rating: 6/10
–Rating: ******
–Comment: At least 2 boys in dark blue sailor suits with long blue collars, 3 white stripes and 2 (US) stars. White, light blue horizontal striped dickey and a dark blue cap. One in long pants (pictured), one other in short pants, white stockings or tights. At school at least one girl in a sailor dress or at least sailor-style white, rectangled collar with a thick blue stripe. Also traditional dutch clothes and pants with suspenders.
I don't know the complete movie, yet.
Should be a Dickens -like movie about orphans set in around 1900, and the first Dutch 3D movie. Aka Apestreken. English title Monkey Business.
Very interesting, but I can't say much more yet. As usual on Dutch movies, very handsome blond boys. Farm setting (barn and hay scenes (cows+pigs), similar like a "Kinderen voor Kinderen" clip (see my overalls blog)).
Rating at least 5-6 for now (for sailor suit scenes) maybe even more for the movie and actors. Also overalls scenes, soon on my other blog, rating 6.

Mooi! Weer De Leeuw (The Sound of Music)

Comedy show. Host Paul de Leeuw
–Year: 2008
–Year in film: 2008
–Country: NL
–Who in clothing: boys, girls sailor suits
–Who in clothing 2:
–Available on DVD: no ?
–I own: no
–Clothing occurence: low
–Rating: 3/10
–Rating: ***
–Comment: This must be from the 12 hour long special Paul 25 anniversary "De marathon" episode showing the von Trapp children. Probably the Dutch cast of the musical "The Sound of Music" maybe in the amusement park De Efteling and other places from 2008-2010.
As usual the costumes are rather simple. White sailor collars. The oldest boy Friedrich wears long beige pants, Kurt shorter dark blue pants or knickers. Note the girl has 2 additional vertical stripes on the collar. Blue white striped shirts/dickeys.
There are also 2 earlier and one later Dutch musical (maybe even more of interest).
I haven't seen this musical. But I assume also the 2 boys in Lederhosen or similar and maybe other sailor suits and dresses.
Rating 3 for this scene.

Kinderen voor Kinderen

Dutch kids’ music annual shows and clips. 1980-present
–Year: 1980-
–Year in film: 1993
–Country: NL
–Who in clothing: boys ~11 Lederhosen
–Who in clothing 2: boys, girls, overalls
–Available on DVD: yes
–I own: yes
–Clothing occurence: very low *
–Rating: 3/10 *
–Rating: ***
–Comment: Brief scene of 3 boys in costumes/traditional clothes from Suisse and Germany (and other countries). Schuhplatter in the German part. I haven't noticed Austria here. Scenes from song "Dansen" (?) from Kinderen voor Kinderen 14 (1993).
Very few and brief scenes. So for Lederhosen rating 3-4 only.
Much better are other songs and other episodes, some showing bib overalls (other blog up to rating 8) and also other clothes like shiny shorts, speedos and the like.
Most kids are handsome and many catchy tunes. So a perfect show rating 9-10. I still have to check the recent years and only know some shows of the 80s and 90s. Quite rare. You won't expect Lederhosen and Schuhplattler in a Dutch show.

Oeroeg
Drama starring Joeroen Krabbe
-Year: 1993
-Year in film: 1939, earlier
-Country: Indonesia, B, NL
-Who in clothing: Johan ~9, boys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: other clothes
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: medium
-Rating: 7/10 ?
-Rating: *******
-Comment: The main character, Young Johan (Joris Putman, pic 1, 2 and 3 on right) in a short white sailor suit with a blue and also white collar, and I think at least 2 other boys in sailor suits. Also the title character boy in Indonesian clothes and also men in War clothes.
One with a white collar and one blond boy with a very long blue collar flap (pic 2). Johan also wearing a pullover over the sailor suit with the blue collar (pic 3) what is very rare. With the white collar wearing a blue scarf looking looking like a tie. Both collars aren't very long, the white one is a bit wider. Both 3 stripes.
Very interesting movie with a Dutch history on YouTube, maybe I have seen it on TV then (I also have some similar entries but I don't like these colony settings). I like white collars and long collars. Unfortunately only few scenes of the long collars and also the jacket.
Several good sailor suit scenes. Pic 1 at 23 minutes, pic 2 at 1h04, pic 3 at 27 minutes, pic 4 at 58 minutes. English title Going Home. 1948 novel by Hella S. Haasse.
Rating 7-8 for now.

Bennie Stout
Family film
-Year: 2011
-Year in film: 1930s
-Country: The Netherlands
-Who in clothing: boy ~11 ?, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: kid, man lace collars, uniforms
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: low ?
-Rating: 6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: At least one unknown boy at school in a real white sailor suit, dark blue collar, 2 stripes, however a non matching medium blue (long?) pants (pic 2, in the middle). I think a teen boy and a man (Zwarte Piet) with lace collars. Young men and I think teen boys in green uniforms (black long pants) in a marching band. Also lots of kids in historical clothing, but I haven't found any others in sailor suits. The main character (played by Koen Dobbelaer) wearing a blue cap and medium length pants, also kids in wooden clogs.
I like Dutch movies and this one looks like a very good family movie with Christmas and time travel plot, including funny and touching scenes. Golden Film Award. Written by Wijo Koek (Dik Trom, Flodder).
I saw different trailers and clips, but don't know the complete movie yet. I assume rather few good saiklor suit scenes and I wonder why only 1 kid in a sailor suit in the 1930s. But maybe this would had been looking too strict. I think also punishment scenes (pulling a boy at his ears, but I don't know of real spanking scenes).
Rating 6 for now.

Max Havelaar of de koffieveilingen der Nederlandsche handelsmaatschappij

-Who in clothing 2: others, historical clothing

-Rating: 5/10 ?

-Comment: A young boy in white sailor suit, blue collar and hat, long scarf, long white pants (pictured), is this Klaas Jan Weert as Frits? And possibly some men in sailor suits. Famous novel by Maltatuli (Eduard Douwes Dekker), published 1860. Seems to be a very good film, unfortunately I don't know it yet completely. But I assume few good scenes. Film aka "Max Havelaar: Or the Coffee Auctions of the Dutch Trading Company" or just "Max Havelaar" and is about colonial policy and coffee. Won Bodil Awards for best European film, also starring Rutger Hauer, Peter Faber and others. I like Dutch films, filmed mainly in Indonesia (Java?), 163 minutes. Rating 5 for now.

Sonny Boy (2011)
Drama starring Martijn Lakemeier
-Year: 2011
-Year in film: 1928
-Country: The Netherlands
-Who in clothing: boys ~7,13, girl ~10 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: others, historical clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating: 8/10
-Rating: ********
-Comment: A teen boy in white sailor suit (not sure, maybe Charlie Leuken or Charlie van Leuken as Jan, pictured left), a younger boy (maybe even his brother Tommy van Leuken) at pic right with striped shirt but different pants and a girl (Claire, maybe their sister in real life) in green sailor dress. I think also grown up sailors in suits and boys in short pants/breeches. Also a younger blond boy at the beach in white shirt, but not real sailor suits. And at least a woman in sailor suit similar dress. Lots of good historical clothings and hats.
That's probably the latest film featuring sailor suits of the 1920s. Plot is about a love between a man from Suriname and an older woman from the Netherlands. Based up a true story, novel by Annejet van der Zijl. I don't know the complete movie yet, but looks very good. As the kids are not the main characters I assume medium or fewer sailor suit scenes. I think the plot is set during 1928 and 1933. Hopefully this will be also broadcasted on TV soon. Rating 8 for now. Not to be confused with Sunny Boy (2011).

-Comment: I remember this UNICEF show and could swear, that the kids wearing sailor suits while singing the Village Peoples' song "In the Navy". I have some parts on VHS (in bad quality and divided on at least 3 different tapes) but couldn't find the part yet. It's possible that I haven't recorded it or deleted it by mistake. I have an audio file of this song, but haven't checked it yet. The pic is from the 1991 show, hosted by Roger Moore, co-hosted by Audrey Hepburn and Deena Kaye showing Joel Grey with kids performing "Don't be anything less than everything you can be". Not sure if this kids choir is the "Nederland Kindertheater" ensemble. If not sailor suits at least maritime clothing and song (In the Navy). Also others in blue sweaters and white pants. This show is a competition of young musicians from 22 countries. One boy ~8ys from Hungary in Lederhosen (I have to make a new pic of it, but I think he didn't reached the finals). Few infos and even fewer pics/vids on the net. Best info is at Dutch organization "Beeld en Geluid" where also copies of the show are available (also 1989 and 1992 edition). If anyone knows this episode or name of the choir please comment. One clip of 1988 (?) with some short clips is available on YouTube showing Italian "Massimilio Fani" who won in 1988 or 89 with song "Cantore per Chi".
The blond boy pictured has a special end sequence as he didn't left the stage like the others. He got a piggyback by Grey.

-Comment: Edwoud Pourink in rare medium blue double-breasted sailor suit with 2 rows of white buttons and dark blue collar. I have seen this series in the 1990s and I think I still have some parts on VHS. But I'm not sure if these scenes with sailor suits and I don't have the time to search all my old tapes for that now. There's one pic on the web
http://weblogs.vpro.nl/villa-achterwerk/category/niet-meer-op-tv/de-freules/
This show was aired on Dutch kids matinee Villa Achterwerk. There is one episode (ep 7) on a Villa Achterwerk DVD, but not sure if with sailor suit. Pic must be from ep 5 or 6. Also not pictured in the trailer. Weird series and also some women in historical aristocratric clothing and also some bathtub and underwear scenes (tighty whities). Not sure about spanking scenes. But I don't like either series nor actors at all. Music is also available on CD.

-Comment: I think this might be Tamar van den Dop as Clementine (pictured left) in blue sailor suit dress (with collar) and a young boy in white sailor suit. Both scenes at the end of the film and I don't noticed others in real sailor suits in this movie. A lot of fishermen and women in historical dresses as well in wooden clogs (klompen). Quite interesting film after play by Herman Heijermans also starring Willeke van Ammelrooy, Huub Stapel and Renée Soutendijk. For sailor suit scenes only rating 5 for now, but I have to check this film again at slow speed if I have enough time. Girl appeared more than the boy, but most of the time not in sailor suit.

-Comment: Some kids and grown ups from different choirs (mostly shown 8 kids ~8ys) in historical Dutch clothing of the 1900s. A girl in sailor suit like dress (pictured left), also with a collar in light green/brown and one boy with a small blue collar. At least one boy in sailor outfit (pic right) and girls in traditional white pointed caps/hoods (Tracht). Clown Bassie (pic right in red) and Adriaan (next to him) singing traditional children's songs (nursery rhymes) with the kids. Filmed in open air museum Arnhem and amusement parks also showing some grown ups at work in historical clothing and old cars, trains. Young kids also dancing together, partly with wooden shoes/clogs (klompen). Interesting clothes and I also like the songs, some are quite catchy tunes. Some kids showing also in normal clothes. Aka "Bassie en Adriaan met liedjes uit grootmoederstijd" (and grootmoeders tijd).

-Comment: I think this are boys of the boys choir Rotterdams Jongenskoor inside Dutch sunday matinee series Villa Achterwerk. Same episode as "De Tuin (Villa Achterwerk)" (see my bib overalls blog), I don't know exact date of broadcasting. Show is some hours showing some films and series and also kids in the studio. Also other kids singing and dancing (not maritim). Perhaps this show is about music. The 2 hosting kids are also from Rotterdam. I think short scenes of this choir but I don't have the complete show on VHS. Also one boy sitting alone on the stairs where the presenters were and close up view. Song is called Ketelbinkie. Later a life belt ws showing around the choir and I think they left the scene.
I now have an upload of another documentary including this choir
