Story 42: Exclusive photo #15 sailor suit boy 1923

This real photo postcard showing a boy in a sailor suit and his older brother and sister (not in sailor outfit) taken in 1923. Unfortunatley I don't know their names and not even their nationality. Maybe they were German or German speaking. On the backside there are 2 words in front of 1923 that I can't read properly. Something like St. paril (but could also be 5+,aril). Could mean anything from the name of the family, town, church or even a date, so maybe French?) The older boy looks Austrian to me.

As most pics it speaks for itself. The sailor collar looks quite long, but there's a collar which is attached to the suit and inside the real sailor collar, so no scarf and knot. The photo was cheap and in very good condition. Not my best one, but also not the worst.

Road to Avonlea

TV series, 91 episodes in 7 seasons + film
-Year: 1990-1996
-Year in film: 1900s
-Country: Canada
-Who in clothing: girl ~11 (S1), sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2: boys, overalls, sailor suit, knickers
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: medium ?
-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least one or more girls in different rare sailor dresses, I think Sarah Polley (pictured). Also some boys in bib overalls, therof Zachary Bennett (pictured), also another boy in blue jeans bibs (see my other blog, rating 7). I don't know of any boys in sailor suits yet. (Please comment if someone knows of any). Of course also lot of others in historical clothing, maybe women in sailor dress or at least collars. And girls with pigtails.

I don't know the complete series and originally searched for another Anne of Green Gables versions (see that entry) and "only found" this Sullivan series.

Pics showing S2e2 on top, S1e1 including a big straw hat and S3e4 below.
New pic 1 from s3e4 15 yo Gema Zamprogna? with a regular, blue collar, on right Zachary Bennett. Pic below might be Kyle Labine in season 2. I don't remember the exact episode.
There are a lot of official trailers from Sullivan himself on YouTube. I have to check this completely, but I think I wouldn't buy this series. Good setting, but probably rather few overalls and sailor suit scenes (of boys). I even have some parts on VHS. Rating 4-5 for now for sailor dress scenes. See also my other blog, rating up to 10.

Info 105: Webfinds

Some good pics, sailor suit and Lederhosen. I found this by coincidence originally searching for damages of old photos and storing and retouching pics.

First a very good pic of a German boy in a sailor suit at a beach aroud 1900 (high res)

http://gesichtergalerie.wordpress.com/2012/02/17/ein-deutscher-lebensweg-um-1900-in-bildern-ein-ulan/

Also some more boys in sailor suits and Lederhosen (mostly younger kids)

http://gesichtergalerie.wordpress.com/category/kinder/

I don't want to embed these pics as they are taken from a third site and might be copyrighted.

Dangerous Holiday (1937, rating 7) starring Ra Hould (Ronald Sinclair) is now completely on archive.org.

Anne of Green Gables (1985)

Family film, Emmy Award
-Year: 1985 ?
-Year in film: ~1910
-Country: Canada
-Who in clothing: boys ~10, teen girl, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: other hist. clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: low *
-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least 2 boys in sailor suits, blue collar, 2 stripes, and one teen girl in a sailor dress (pictured), maybe some more. And of course lots of others in historical clothing.

I'm not 100% sure that this is from the 1985 version as there are different films and versions, but I think so. I have thought of it before, as there are trailers on every Sullivan DVD, but I couldn't found any sailor suit scenes earlier and now checked some few clips on YouTube and found this scenes quickly by coincidence. I don't know this nor the other versions completely, but I assume rather few sailor suit scenes. And the main character is of course the teen girl Anne. Probably some quite good scenes including pulling at pigtails.

199 minutes + sequels. Novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, starring Megan Follows as Anne.

I have to check this and the other films again later. Rating 5-6 for now.

For another great Sullivan series see "Wind At My Back" and "Looking for Miracles" on my overalls blog.

Akademia pana Kleksa

Fantasy film
-Year: 1984
-Year in film: 1940s ? Fantasy
-Country: Poland, Soviet Union
-Who in clothing: boys ~6-11, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: shorts, overalls
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: low ?
-Rating: 6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Lots of boys (more than 20, probably all 24 students) in long white or beige sailor suits, white collars and scarves, 3 light green or similar stripes. Also other costumes, shorts, pajamas and at least one kid in bib overalls (a boy?) but I don't like these bibs, not sure if I make an entry on my other blog.

I don't know/don't remember this famous family movie about Mr. Inkblot (166 minutes), 1946 novel series by Jan Brzechwa. English title "Mister Blot's Academy" and "Academy of Mr. Kleks", Russian title "Академия пана Кляксы". Looks quite interesting. Awarded music. There are also 2 sequels and a 3 DVD Box set.

Probably most like this movie (due to "other" scenes). I think I can't rate higher than 5-6 for now. The white sailor suits are quite unusual and maybe there's good music (not sure what dubbed versions there are). But I prefer authentic short sailor suits with blue collars. I think there might be few sailor suit scenes anyway. I have to check this again later.

Die fröhliche Wallfahrt

Comedy Heimatfilm, novel Peter Rosegger
-Year: 1956
-Year in film: 1900s ?
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~5-9, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: altar boys, men
-Available on DVD VHS
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low *
-Rating:  4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: One unnamed boy, abot 9 yo at the beginning in light brown buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders (hand in pockets) and a yellow hat (pic 2, short scene), one very young boy in light blue Lederhosen (pic 3, 2 short scenes), one older boy in long, probably buckskin Lederhosen as well (helping clipping sheep) and some young boys doing a Watschnplattler in black longer Lederhosen. One is hitten so hard (fake) that he fell off the bench and cried. 2 altar boys (white/red clothing, outside also sitting on the meadow and quite often shown during the "happy pilgrimage") and also men in Lederhosen doing Schuhplattler and show plattler even with real tools (axe and scythe, unpictured).

Finally another Heimatfilm as announced. Sadly only 2 brief scenes of older boys. The setting looks like the 1900s (hats of women, no elictrricity, however there are some modern trucks far in the background).

Starring Hanna Hutten, Beppo Brem, Bert Fortell and Maria Andergast. Quite funny, but there are better Heimatfilms.

Rating 3-4 only. Released on VHS (OOP). No clips.

My Little Margie

Comedy series starring Gale Storm, 126 ep
-Year: 1952-1955
-Year in film: 1950s
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: women, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: I think at least 2 women in sailor dresses. I think main character Gale Storm (short dark hair) and this young blond pigtailed woman in ep s2e26. The front looks good, but the collar flap is very short. 2 stripes. I don't remember her name as there are a lot of actors. I checked lot of episodes but only found this short scene. I haven't noticed any boy actors in this series nor males in sailor suits.

Filmed at Hal Roach studios, produced by Hal Roach jr. and nominated for an Emmy. Also starring Charles Farrell.

Might be quite funny (for it's time) but there are a lot of other and better series.

For sailor dresses scenes, rating 2-3 only.

Info 104: On TV week 26 2012

Some few old but quite rare Heimatfilms this week.

Tomorrow June 25th "Die fröhliche Wallfahrt" (1956) at least a boy in Lederhosen.

Period film "Fontane - Effi Briest" (1974)", maybe also interesting. Perhaps some background actors?

Tuesday "Der Klosterjäger (1953)" Not sure if boys in this Ludwig Ganghofer Heimatfilm.

Friday "Doku am Freitag - Adelsdynastien in NRW" (ep 2). Also not sure about this one. Last week (ep 1" Die Grafen Beissel von Gymnich") there was a short but very good b&w scene of 2 boys working in the field one in Lederhosen (shown from behind while picking up potatoes or similar). I have a recording, but I'm not sure if I should add this.

Danger Point (1971)

Kids film, CFTF
-Year: 1971
-Year in film: 1970s ?
-Country: UK
-Who in clothing: sailor boys ~11-13 ys
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD no ?
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Some sailor boys in dark blue sailor suits (pictured). No real sailor collar, but a white scarf, pointed at the backside. White sailor hats. Also some grown-up sailors, not sure if they wear real sailor collars.

Another CFTF movie (56 minutes). I don't know/don't remember this movie. I like movies with young sailors, but sadly no sailor collars here. Starring Bernard Lee, directed by John Davis ("Nighteen -Eighty-Four", "David Copperfield (2000)", rating 10).

Quite interesting, but I have to check this again. No clips and unsure if there's an DVD.

Rating 4-5 for now only.

Vysokaya nagrada

Soviet drama
-Year: 1939
-Year in film: 1930s ?
-Country: Soviet Union
-Who in clothing: boys ~7-10 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: One boy in a dark (blue) sailor suit, dark collar, 3+1 thick stripes which appear round at front, with and without scarf (pictured). Also at least one other younger boy (supporting actor) in a white sailor suit (pic below). And according to a cover also other clothing and a red Soviet scarf.

I don't had the time to watch this movie completely at slow speed; as I said before I don't understand Russian anyway. Maybe quite interesting and rather a rare sailor suit, but I think few scenes only.

Russian title "Высокая награда" which means Blue Ribbon and the plot is about airplanes and a spy. Written by Igor Savchenko.

Probably there are better movies. Completely on YouTube.

Rating 3-4 for now.

June 21, 2012

Jeder träumt von einem Pferd

Family film
-Year: 1988
-Year in film: 1980s
-Country: East Germany
-Who in clothing: Bastian ~ 6 ys ?, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD no
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: At least one young boy in I think brown buckskin Lederhosen (without suspenders), probably André Lohrmann (pictured), also wearing yellow rubber boots. Also some older boys in jeans and other pants.

I don't remember this complete movie, but I think rather few Lederhosen scenes. I'm even not sure if that are real Lederhosen. But he's very young anyway. I think I have seen it (or the plot about rescuing a horse of slaughtering).

Typical and quite good later East German children's film. But could be better. Directed by Karola Hattop who also did some later famous (and much better) movies and seres like Prinz & Bottel, Tierärztin Dr. Mertens, Wer küßt schon einen Leguan? and Wie verliebt man seinen Vater?

I have to check this again later the next broadcasting. No clips on YouTube and I think not available on either DVD or VHS.

Rating 3-4 for now (for Lederhosen scenes), the movie maybe rating 5.

Ein dreifach Hoch dem Sanitätsgefreiten Neumann

Erotic comedy film starring Siegfried Rauch
-Year: 1969
-Year in film: 1910s
-Country: Germany, Italy
-Who in clothing: woman, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2: others, hist. clothing
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least one young woman in a good white sailor dress. Blue collar square angled at front, 2 stripes, blue scarf and a straw hat. Probably some more actors in interesting historical clothing. Obviously a man in a kilt, maybe also men in uniforms. Women in wet dresses and also with a Tyrolean hat. Sorry, no pic yet. One pic is at

http://www.tvspielfilm.de/kino/filmarchiv/film/ein-dreifach-hoch-dem-sanitaetsgefreiten-neumann,1293703,ApplicationGallery.html?page=4

I found this by coincidence. I don't know/don't remember this maybe typical German softcore erotic comedy of the late 60s. Though an early setting in the 1910s. There are also some more similar or related movies with the characters Bonifatius Kiesewetter and Frau Wirtin set in the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy (k.u.k.). There is also a 1977 sequel called "Neue Abenteuer des Sanitätsgefreiten Neumann". I have to check all these movies as well. Also starring Christiane Rücker, Rudolf Prack and Alexandra Marischka.

Might be quite interesting. Maybe there are also some boy actors in the background. If someone knows any, please comment. I hope for a soon broadcasting. Available on DVD. No clips. Film aka "Mit Grapsch und Gloria".

Rating 3 for now.

Story 40: Exclusive photo #14: Sailor suit boy

Another exclusive photo showing an older boy, maybe teen boy in a short sailor suit. Taken in Dresden in 1935. Looks like a wedding. I don't know their names.

Note the stockings with bare knees (and that at a wedding) and his short hair. The collar showing few short parts on the front, so I assume a rather long collar flap. Sadly it cannot be seen. The girl, probably his sister didn't wear a sailor dress.

Very few hits on the last exlusive pic 13 (backside boys 2, I wonder why, just 24 hits yet). Pic 12 has 312 hits, Pic 11 has 276, most others also more than 200, Pic 4 (backside) has 724, Pic 9 Lederhosen 287, Pic 3 Hungary 681, Pic 1 only 367 hits, although much longer online.

The Gingerbread House

Kids adventure film
-Year: 1996
-Year in film: 1990s ?
-Country: UK
-Who in clothing: Jack ~6 ?, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: jeans
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Danny Barnham (as 6 yo Jack, actor looks a bit older) in a long white sailor suit, white collar, 1 thick stripe (pictured). Also in modern shorts and blue jeans jacket and a baseball cap.

A CFU production (The Children's Film Unit), maybe similar to the CFF/CFTF films, another CFF movie coming soon. I don't remember / don't know the complete movie (51 minutes), but looks like an unusual modern setting featuring a boy in sailor suit and jeans. 10 yo sister Kylie, played by Danielle Hawley, also starring Patsy Byrne, Gordon Griffin and Brian Sibley.

The plot is also quite interesting (two kids alone in this "Gingerbread" house), but I have to check this again and think there are better movies. Available on DVD directly from CFU, probably DVD-r. Hard to find with this title. No trailers on YouTube.

Rating 3-4 due to the young age. I also assume rather few sailor suit scenes.

Pride and Prejudice (1995)

Period mini series, Jane Austen, 6 episodes
-Year: 1995
-Year in film: 1810s
-Country: UK
-Who in clothing: boys ~8-10, collars
-Who in clothing 2: historical clothing
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least 2 young boys (in season 4, one older pictured) in good historical clothing. White lace collars or similar. Shiny white long pants. The other boy unpictured is a bit younger. Also a thin boy dancing in white pants in ep 1 or 2. I don't know their names. Also one brief but good scene in episode 6.

Not sailor suits but good historical clothing. Sadly only this 3 very short scenes.

Typical romantic Jane Austen period film/series. Early setting and mostly grown-ups (women with hats. Often quite boring. I haven't found pics of boys in there before, so at least some few scenes. Most period movie blogs showing women and their dresses only.

Starring Jennifer Ehle, Colin Firth and Susannah Harker. Emmy Award.

Rating 3-4. Few scenes, no real sailor suits. And I don't like those romances.

Info 103: New color PD art sailor suit pics

Some new pics of color boys in sailor suit in art.

Pic showing a 1910s postcard maybe British, then Edvard Munch "The Four Sons of Dr. Linde" (1903) then Portrait of a boy in a sailor suit from Danish Paul Gustave Fischer. 2 more pics on my Color PD album. More coming soon. Make sure you haven't missed my previous entry today (Lederhosen). Pics are believed to be in PD in most countries as released before 1923 (reuse at own risk).

Meine Kindheit… auf dem Lande

Documentary
-Year: 2011
-Year in film: 1950s-1970s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~6-12, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: shorts
-Available on DVD no
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: low *
-Rating:  7/10
-Rating: *******
-Comment: Some boys in different Lederhosen. Short and long, smooth finish, probably nappa (first pic, one boy only), some mostly younger boys also Lederhosen with suspenders (pic below).  Best scenes at the beginning. Also many in tight shorts, some shorts might also be of buckskin leather, but can't say for sure. Most scenes showing their backside. One scene is also very good, but this is a Lederhosen blog and not for shorts or bottoms only.

This is the last episode in this series (I missed the first ones and have to recheck them; next week aristocrats, also including historic images, not sure if also boys).

Like the previous episodes this are childhood memories, this one growing up rural. Some people of North Rhine-Westfalia telling their stories. There's a subtitle that one man being interviewed has only left some photos, so most or all vintage film scenes being shown are not private scenes of the people, but must be from other short or longer documentaries. If anybody knows the origin and the film titles, please comment.

Most scenes, especially the 1st one seems to be from the 60s. Typical glasses. Some very few scenes in color, some of the 70s, but no good Lederhosen scenes (one young boy in the background). No sailor suits at all.

I like farms, but prefer the huge US farms with warmer climate (see my other blog). One young boy wearing (simple, maybe non-jeans) bib overalls only. Some interesting stories like pigs being bathed before slaughtering in the same tin tub like the kids. And one complete village doesn't exist anymore at all and the biggest treasure of a woman are some photos of it. Rural parts are very common after WWII and most people live in cities now. But the complete life and time has changed. So did the clothing. No boy would wear Lederhosen except in Bavaria. And nobody sailor suits.

Rating 5. Only 1-2 very good but very brief scenes. Previously rating 5, now rather 7.

Update: Partly same footage (at least pic 1 and some more) on Sommer auf dem Land - Erinnerung ans Dorfleben im Südwesten.

Chernomorochka

Comedy film starring Svetlana Zhivankova
-Year: 1959
-Year in film: 1950s ?
-Country: Soviet Union
-Who in clothing: young sailor
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: often ?
-Rating:  3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Some young (and some older) sailors in dark blue sailor suits (also with white hats), at least also one in a white suit (pictured) and one also shirtless, and some boxing in shorts. There are also lots of women acting, not sure if in real sailor dresses as well (but confirmed long dresses). There are also some kids at least in the background, but I haven't seen any in sailor suits either.

I don't know this complete movie and as I don't understand Russian, I can't say much more about it. I think it's not a war movie but a comedy film, probably set in the 50s, so a quite rare plot. Russian title: "Черноморочка". Few infos on the web about it. Could be worse.

Rating 3 for now.

Der Knabe in Blau

Lost movie. F.W. Murnau
-Year: 1919
-Year in film: 1910s ?
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boy ~12, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: No
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least one older boy in a short sailor suit (pictured).

This is a lost movie, so please don't ask if I have it or know where to get it. The pic is taken from the documentary "Die Sprache der Schatten" which is on some DVD versions of "Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922)", in  Germany the deluxe box. There are some stills of this (and other movies of Murnau) shown, 2 pics with this boy. Not sure if there are some more stills or even short clips available somewhere. There is also a real boy acting similar to that of the painting.

Silent movie, 54 minutes, aka "Der Todessmaragd" and "The Boy in Blue". Based on the 1770s painting The Blue Boy by Thomas Gainsborough and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Starring Ernst Hofmann and Blandine Ebinger. First movie of Murnau.

I don't know the name of the boy actor (uncredited at IMDb), maybe Eugen as Rudolf. And I can't say much more about this movie. Looks quite interesting. Also the plot about an emerald hidden in a castle. Rating 4-5.

I also have to check the many other versions of Dorian Gray movies. Looks like good period movies.

Info 102: TUE On TV: Hoch droben auf dem Berg

And another Heimatfilm had not been aired. Same for tomorrow. But next Tuesday, June 19th there will be "Hoch droben auf dem Berg (1957)". I already have an entry (rating 3 for now), but I don't know this movie so it could be much better.

/2012/02/28/hoch-droben-auf-dem-berg/

I haven't checked all channels for next week yet.

Today Pride & Prejudice, tomorrow another episode of Meine Kindheit... (Lederhosen).

Corrina, Corrina

Romance starring Whoopi Goldberg
-Year: 1994
-Year in film: ~1955
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Molly ~9, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2: boy sailor jumper, girls overalls
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Main character Tina Majorino (pictured) in a  short blue sailor dress, white short collar, 2 red stripes, red scarf, red beret and a white jacket. Also a boy in a sailor suit looking blue pullover or similar (maybe no collar, at least not shown). Also Majorino and a black girl in different bib overalls (see my other blog).

Molly wears a lot of different clothes. Only one rather short scene at school in this sailor dress. Also in class without the beret. Funny scene as she was hanging at the car not wanting going to school and Woppi Goldberg tearing at her. The movie is quite good, better than thought, but for a film set in the 50s there are too few overalls scenes, however it's quite unusual to wear a sailor dress then. Also starring Courtland Mead (I didn't recognize him, few scenes of boys). I also missed the beginning 5 or 10 minutes.

For sailor suit scenes rating 3-4. Rating even 2 for the overalls. There are better movies.

Info 101: TOP5 sailor suit, Da lacht Tirol

I have added a TOP 5 of most viewed sailor suit entries (alltime) on the right part of this blog as most readers are searching just for Lederhosen. Please note: As there are many clicks on my exclusive pics, I decided to only add the most favourite one. The other TOP 5 is from end of May; my Exclusive pic 4 is currently there on top as well. Also note, that in most films there are more than one actor in sailor suits, sometimes girls or women as well and sometimes even Lederhosen as well.

I will update this TOP 5 pic regularly like the other. And I also added 2 TOP 5 pics on my other blog (boys in overalls only) as many readers clicking for girls.

The announced Heimatfilm "Da lacht Tirol" had not been aired today. I think it will be rescheduled and maybe aired within some few weeks. There is also this movie on July 9th on MDR (early in the morning, but I can't receive that channel at that time, and there's no live stream either).

This is my 500th post on this blog (the other heading 1000). Much more visitors on my other blog, but even more spam on this one.

Wetterleuchten um Maria

Heimatfilm, director Luis Trenker
-Year: 1957
-Year in film: 1950s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~3-11, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: young, old men
-Available on DVD VHS only *
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low *
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Some boys (supporting actors in the background) in buckskin Lederhosen (pictured), mainly shortly after the beginning at a fun fair. Some younger men in Lederhosen with wide green Tyrolean cotton suspenders bowling outside (one even shirtless), some kids watching. Men also dancing, but no Schuhplattler. Also some very young boys, but in the far background, too. And of course some older men in Lederhosen, some sitting in a band. Also later at hunting scenes. Quite unusual a woman in pants (not Marianne Hold).

The first Heimatfilm this week, and it was worse than expected, although directed by famous Luis Trenker. The person on the pic I saw was obviously not a teen boy. (However the one tomorrow will be much better, I hope).

Typical Heimatfilm, quite good landscape scenes, some music, romantic scenes, but few dramatic scenes. Could be much better. Also starring Marianne Hold, Bert Fortell and Mathias Wiemann. Novel by Hans Ernst.

Note on the second pic the boy sitting in the lower right corner and also some on the carrousel. On the pic below there is one kid on the far left (not sure if it's a boy), there are some more boys there, also a blond boy walking to the right, showing briefly their faces only. On the first pic there's also a boy in the middle swing in Lederhosen, but I prefer this scene showing the oldest boy. They swing very high. But no perfect close up scene of boys in Lederhosen.

Released on VHS. I also saw some DVD offers but probably DVD-r. Completely on YouTube anyway.

Rating 2-3.

Blood: The Last Vampire (2009)

Action film based on Anime
-Year: 2009
-Year in film: 1970
-Country: Hong Kong, China, F
-Who in clothing: girl Saya ~28 yo, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: South Korean Gianna Jun as 400 yo half vampire Saya in a dark blue sailor dress /sailor fuku with a long dark collar (pictured). Set in Japan; Chinese-French co-production in English language. Rated R.

I don't know this movie, but the plot looks quite interesting, though very violent. There is also a related anime, manga and video game. Sountrack by Deep Purple and Chuck Berry. Japanese title "ラスト・ブラッド", Chinese title "小夜刀:最后的吸血鬼"

I have to check this again later. Rating 3 for now. Not sure of other actors in sailor dresses.

Info 100: Der kleine Lord (1962) Michael Ande

Another mystery solved. This DVD will be released this month and the movie was very rare. This seems to be a "modern" version of Little Lord Fauntleroy set in 1960s Germany. Starring Manfred Kunst as Ceddie. Michael Ande is grown up now. So I don't assume sailor suit scenes. Maybe Lederhosen scenes but I also don't know of any yet. Movie is B&w. But probably a good movie, however good plot. But I don't like these modern versions.

Usually I don't list movies without sailor suits or Lederhosen, but I already had it on my List 10: Michael Ande films.

I also update Zwölf Stühle (2004) after watching the rest of the episodes. One more pic of young sailors (backside). Only one more scene of the boy at the end (no more pics of the boy).

Hook

Adventure film starring Robin Williams
-Year: 1991
-Year in film: 1990s ?
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boy Pockets ~8, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: A fat black boy in a sailor suit (I think it's Isaiah Robinson). Very worn and dirty suit (and that's quite unusual compared to other sailor suit films). Light blue quite long collar, 3 stripes, long red scarf and a sailor's hat with a pom pom. He is also acting as a ball rolling over some pirates (see clip).

I missed the first half of this movie, but I don't like this movie either. Too much fast action. No really good kid actors, at least not in the 2nd half.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, nominated for 5 Oscars, also starring Dustin Hoffman, Julia Roberts, Bob Hoskins, Phil Collins and many more. Based on the famous Peter Pan novel/play by J.M Barrie. I think there are better Peter Pan versions, see also my Peter Pan (1924) entry (rating 5). The 2003 versions is also very famous.

I still have to check the first half, but didn't expect much more there. 144 minutes, rated PG. Peter Pan grew up.

Rating 2-3 for now only, rather 2.

Story 38: Exclusive photo #13: Sailor suit boys backside 2

Another exclusive pic. This is a little snippet of a photo postcard. Not sure who cut it out. It had been sent to a female doctor in Bavaria, but I can't hardly identify much more. I know the destination city, but it's nothing of interest. I can't identify the sender only the first 2 letters of a city on the seal. There are some also unidentifyable words, obviously also written by the boys. So it probably was a greeting card. There is a very small remnant of the stamp. All together and because of the old German writing and the hat of the woman I assume the date about 1920. I assume a 10 Rpf stamp, so before the Depression and later, sailor suits were also quite rare.

I  retouched it a bit, it was more faded and colder more blue b&w and had some scratches. Also note the short stockings. And long collars. Very good scene. I hope you like it. I later wonder, who took this photo. Maybe not their dad. Maybe even another older brother? Or a completely unrelated person. And where they were heading to? Or coming from.

Make sure you don't miss my 2 other posts of today.

Meine Kindheit… in der Großstadt

Documentary
-Year: 2011
-Year in film: 1950s-1970s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~5-10, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: shorts, underwear
-Available on DVD no
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: low
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: About four short notable (moving) scenes of boys in Lederhosen, 2 in b&w, 2 in color. Also shirtless scenes in shorts and wet underwear.

Next episode in this series, but produced one year earlier (vintage footage though). Some famous people of North-Rhine Westfalia, mostly actors are talking about their childhood. This time in the big cities. First pic/scene was shown as Claus Theo Gärtner who grew up in Oberhausen was talking. Not sure if this scene was really filmed in Oberhausen, but most likely not show him. The two other pics are probably filmed in Cologne. The color pic is from a kindergarten or similar. Not sure about the fabric. One other color scene but in a bad quality and far in the background, a boy outside with suspenders, but not sure if really Lederhosen. The pic below showing a boy in smooth finish or nappa Lederhosen (striped shirt in the middle, background at the door and some younger boys in buckskin Lederhosen.Very short scene and only shown from behind. One more b&w scene of a boy in buckskin Lederhosen shown from behind (unpictured).

Some good shirtless scenes at a fountain in wet also white underwear (briefs) the best are photos, but this is not an underwear movie blog. Next Friday "Meine Kinderheit... auf dem Lande" also interesting.

Interesting series and this episode is also about playing soccer and else in the ruined cities after the War. And also the 70s with school life and social problems wit immigrants. And the change of the cities like the first traffic light in this (part) of the city. However these are some few impressions of just few people and this might had been different depending on the size of the city, if someone was poor or rich and else. There are also some other documentaries about the 50s ansd 60s.

Rating 4-5 only. See also the previous episode (rating 7, showing smooth finish Lederhosen and sailor suit scenes).

The Secret Garden (1993)

Family film
-Year: 1993
-Year in film: ~1911 ?
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Mary 10 yo, sailor dresses
-Who in clothing 2: girl, boys other hist. clothing
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low *
-Rating:  4/10 *
-Rating: ****
-Comment: British Kate Maberly (pictured) in a white dress and jacket with a long white or beige collar and a straw hat. Also in a real blue, white/blue striped sailor dress, blue scarf and also good historical clothing of the 2 boys (Heydon Prowse, in the wheelchair) and Andrew Knott (on the right). Very good brown pants with suspenders and also breeches like. And nightshirts.

She also wears other dresses without that collar. The first picture showing the scene where they first visit the secret garden.

Very good plot and famous novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. There are also some other films (which I have to check, too) but this version is probably the most famous one and maybe the best.

I have seen this movie several times before, but missed the beginning and end this time and the real sailor dress scenes. So can't say much more about it, especially the collar. I think I only have an incomplete earlier recording, so have to record and check completely the next broadcasting. But it's often aired.

But I assume rather few real good sailor dress scenes. However some very good scenes of Andrew Knott.

For sailor dress scenes rating 4 for now. Good entertaining for someone who watched it for the first time, but I think there are better movies and series. So I wouldn't buy it. Rating 5-6 for the movie itself. Kate Maberly also wears bib overalls 2 years later in "Friendship's Field" (see my other blog, rating 6).

Make sure you haven't missed my pics for Silk Road. And this evening "Meine Kindheit ... in der Großstadt".

Silk Road

Documentary Wiener Sängerknaben
-Year: 2008
-Year in film: ~2008
-Country: Austria
-Who in clothing: boys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: other clothing
-Available on DVD: yes + BD
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: often *
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Members of the Vienna Boys Choir (Wiener Sängerknaben) in long dark blue suits with light blue collars and white suits with dark clue collars, 3 thin stripes. Also other clothing like regular jeans, shiny shorts and other historical costumes. I will upload some pics later. (There are many on the Web anyway).

I think I don't have to tell anything about this famous Vienna Boys Choir. As announced before, it had been aired today; German title "Die Wiener Sängerknaben - Wege in die Ferne".  51 minutes. About half of this film are sailor suit scenes.

I have seen it before and don't remember that there are (or were in 2008) some US boys in this choir. Some boys are more handsome than others. And I don't like these modern rather light blue collars with this stripes. Synthetic shiny fabric which looks festive and is better than cotton. Different length collars, most are rather short. Few scenes in white suits.

This looks more like a promotional movie or making of for a Silk Road Tour. There are also earlier documentaries (however with other boys). I think rather few good scenes. In one a new member gets his suit also showing the collar a bit better. Similar scene on "L'Or des Anges" (see entry "Un peu de fièvre") which is much better, also showing other choirs, boys in tights and a lot of extras. I think I wouldn't buy Silk Road. Of course the voices are good, but I have enough choir music. And for the rest I prefer the classic sailor collars and there are better movies.

Rating 6-7. See also

Un peu de fièvre (rating 7+ for this short film, 9 or 10 for this DVD L'Or des Anges) and

Wiener Sängerknaben (rating 7)

Update: Now some pics for illustration the sailor suits. First pic showing the different length collars. But wide at the shoulders. Pic 2 showing the new choir member given his suit and hat. Also shown the new light blue color of the collar and the thin stripes. Last pic showing the white suits. Collar front and back shown, dark blue. Note that the scarves are inside the blouses and on the regular dark blue suits barely invisible (unpictured).
Aka Wege in die Ferne. I have some more posts of them (blog search).

Osobykh primet net

Biography / drama / period film

-Year in film: 1902-1905
-Country: Poland, USSR, DDR
-Who in clothing: boys, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: other hist. clothing/uniforms
-Available on DVD VHS only ?
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: very low *
-Rating:  3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least some boys in different sailor suits (pictured). A young boy in a green sailor suit, and also one or two older boys in long blue sailor suits. Women with typical 1900s umbrellas.

I don't know the complete movie and only checked it at high speed (most parts). I noticed only some few and short scenes (best are pictured). Young boy at a zoo (green suit boy also shown front view), and another older boy at the end marching with a group. It's about the revolutionary Felix Dzerzhinsky. English titles "Identification Marks - None" and "No Special Marks of Identification". Polish Title "Znaków szczególnych brak", Russian title "Особых примет нет".

138 minutes. Other databases say release in 1978.

I don't understand Polish or Russian. For this few quite good sailor suit scenes rating 2-3 for now. No trailers, "only" complete movies.

Info 98: Tomorrow on TV: Wiener Sängerknaben

Tomorrow at 12.40 on 3sat "Die Wiener Sängerknaben - Wege in die Ferne" 2008 documentary. After that 3 old Heimatfilms /comedy films/ musical films. I don't know the movies. Also the period film / mini series "Pride & Prejudice" (1995) (Jane Austen) on arte. I also don't know of any boys in there.

Der Jäger von Fall (1956)

Ganghofer Heimatfilm starring Rudolf Lenz
-Year: 1956
-Year in film: 1880s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: men, Lederhosen
-Available on DVD no
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: verly low *
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least one boy in light brown buckskin Lederhosen and some younger boys in black buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders (pictured). Short scene and background actors only. And of course some men in Lederhosen, also dancing Schuhplattler.

Finally another Heimatfilm which had been aired some days ago. Fourth movie adaption of this famous 1883 novel by Ludwig Ganghofer. Probably the best known author of Heimatfilms and starring famous Rudolf Lenz. Also starring Traute Wassler, Maria Hellwig, Walter Sedlmayr, Erni Singerl and Siegfried Rauch.

I have seen this movie many times but recently I missed the first half, but don't expect much more there. Typical but very good Heimatfilm of the 50s.

For this Lederhosen scenes I can only rate 3 for now. And have to watch it once more. I wonder why there is no DVD of this version.

Update: Now completely seen. No more noteble scenes. 2 or 3 scenes with mostly very young boys in the background.

Rating 2-3.

Skins (2007)

UK teen series, 55+ episodes in 6+seasons
-Year: 2007-
-Year in film: 2007
-Country: UK
-Who in clothing: Cassie ~18 yo, sailor collar
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: low ?
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: 17 or 18 yo Hannah Murray (pictured) in rarely worn open and long blue sailor collar. 3 stripes, medium length blue pants. Pics are from s1e9. Maybe also in more episodes (of the first season she only starred).

Looks quite interesting. A Japanese girl in a sailor dress in nothing special, but this is. The awarded series is rated TV-MA (mature, BBFC 18). There is also a related US series (which I also have to check).

I don't watch those young adult drama series. But obviously has some quite interesting plots.

Rating 5-6 for this rare fashion. The only other entry yet with a boy with an open collar is Emil och griseknoen (Emil i Lönneberga) but it's not a modern accessory there.

Info 97: Webfinds, young teen sailor pics

Two pics of 1+3 young Russian sailors. Can't easily be found. From a Russian magazine

http://www.naslednick.ru/archive/rubric/rubric_53.html

and

Maybe there are more. The first is either 12 or 14 yo.

Zwölf Stühle (2004)

Comedy film, modern version by Ulrike Ottinger
-Year: 2004
-Year in film: 1927/2000s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boy, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: men, sailor suit, other boys
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: partly TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: very low ?
-Rating:  5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least one boy in a rare modern sleeveless shirt with a blue sailor collar. Also at least 2 or 3 sailors in different sailor suits. And other boys and grown-ups in historical clothing.

Based after the 1928 novel "The Twelve Chairs"Original title: Dvenadtsat stulyev (12 стульев) by Ilya Ilf and Petrov, set in 1927 and had been made into several movies. This is a German movie (Russian language, except for the German narration, German subtitles), filmed in the Ukraine and combined old 1920s and modern props, cars, electronics and colorful clothing. Probably the only modern one (except for stage plays). This scene is at 1h22 / at the end of part 3. I don't know the complete film/series yet. In part 4 there are no boys in sailor suits but in other historical clothing. Funny plot about jewels hidden in one of 12 chairs and people want to get them. Next episodes will be aired next Sunday on 3sat. Most streaming and download clips claim to be the 2004 version some including the right cover, but aren't.  So pay attention. Other versions also have kids, but besides historical clothing I haven't seen any in sailor suits yet.

Rating 4-5 for now, although few good scenes yet. Another modern series and webfind coming soon. Some shorter clips on YouTube but not with this scene.

Update: Now I have seen the rest of the episodes. The boy in sailor suit only appeared at the end of the film on a stage (shown from behind). The 2 boys sitting above the stage. One young sailor on a ship, I think in ep. 5, quite often shown. The pic is on the web. I still have to check the complete first 3 episodes. Pic below is from ep 3 (or 4).

Mein Leben - Marcel Reich-Ranicki

Biography starring Matthias Schweighöfer
-Year: 2009
-Year in film: 1928, later
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys, woman, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: Marcel 8, others,  hist. clothing, uniforms
-Available on DVD yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: - 2 boys at school in different sailor suits and a woman with a white sailor collar, 3 stripes and young Marcel (Filip Jarek, pictured below) in historical clothing. School scenes, so also other boys in historical clothing. But I don't know of any in sailor suits or Lederhosen yet. Of cource also Germans in uniforms of the 1930s/1940s. Later also set in the mid 50s.

I don't like wars, violent scenes and racism, but I will watch and record this movie.

Based on his bestselling autobiography.

ALSO THIS EVENING: "Around the Wold In 80 Days (2004)" with historical clothing, but probably no sailor suits nor Lederhosen, maybe similar.

Tomorrow: Hook (1991). Some Heimatfilms this week, but I don't know of any good ones featuring Lederhosen.

Update: After watching it I saw 2 boys at school in sailor suits. One in a white sailor suit, white collar, white dickey, 2 stripes, another one in a green sailor suit, white collar, 3 stripes. Only this short scene. I also expected muuch more childhood scenes. The movie itself is also poor. Typical WWII drama, nothing special. No good uniform scenes either. Schweighöfer was acting quite good. And the young Marcel. There are much better movies.

Originally rated 4, now 2-3 for both sailor suit scenes and the film.

Meine Kindheit... im Schloss

Documentary
-Year: 2012
-Year in film: 1930s, 1950s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~6-11, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: boys ~5-11, sailor suits
-Available on DVD no
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: low
-Rating:  7/10
-Rating: *******
-Comment: Two (moving) scenes of boys in Lederhosen, some are smooth finish leather. 2 or 3 scenes of boys in sailor suits, one showing a b&w photo.

I understood that the Lederhosen scenes (pictured) were taken at the German boarding school Schloss Salem. I don't know the date, maybe the 1950s as this a unrelated footage. Also another scene with boys outside showing from behind. But also no close ups. One very young boy in a sailor suit (also moving scene at the beginning) and one scene of a 1930s photo (unpictured). An older countess (House Thurn & Taxis) showing her favourite photo. She even mentions that it's her favourite pic as they are all shown in sailor suits. A boy ~10 in a sailor suit.

Part of the 2010 WDR series "Meine Kindheit..." (see also entry Lindenstraße on my other blog). Next episode is "Meine Kindheit... in der Großstadt" (rating 5) next Friday, also with boys in Lederhosen. The color documentaries ("My childhood", this in the castle showing interviews of some grown-ups of different age talking about their childhood. Not all are aristocrats. Interesting plots of different ways growing up in castles.  I like boarding schools. Also shown some later color scenes but none in Lederhosen. Good historical overview also of education and social life.

"Only" rating 6-7 due to the few scenes. Though very good Lederhosen.

Rebroadcasted today (noon) on WDR. Probably also later, maybe also online. Update: The 2nd pic is from the intro and probably from the episode ... in der Schule (which I missed).

Aka Meine Kindheit auf dem Schloss
