The Inventors' Specials / composers' / artists'

Biography / educational, 19 DVDs
-Year: 1990s
-Year in film: 15 - 20th century
-Country: Canada
-Who in clothing: boys, sailor suit, girls ?
-Who in clothing 2: historical clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low *
-Rating:  7/10 ?
-Rating: *******
-Comment: This is a combined entry of the 3 DVD box sets by Devine Entertainment.

I don't know these movies completely (each ~60 minutes), but many boys in historical clothing, partly in sailor suits. Very interesting, especially the clothing.

For now I have only found 2 or 3 movies with sailor suits. The best is maybe the Emmy Awarded "Edison: The Wizard of Light" with a young boy ~7 ys in a white sailor suit, white collar, 2 stripes (sorry, no pic yet and not in the trailer only Michal Suchánek with suspenders and an apron).
Also a boy with a collar in "Bizet's Dream" (bottom picture) and maybe some kids or girls with sailor dresses in that and/or in "Marie Curie: More than Meets the Eye"
Not sure about the amount of scenes, but I assume rather few (good) scenes, though interesting.

Top pic showing "Handel's Last Chance" (composer Händel). Also interesting the very old clothing and hat in "Leonardo: A Dream of Flight" about Da Vinci.

Also starring 11 or 12 yo Tyrone Savage (Wind At My Back, see my other blog) in "Newton: A Tale of Two Isaacs".

I have to check all of them again, but I probably won't buy them. The age range of most boys is maybe 6-12 ys, but the boy in Edison is very young and few scenes.

Rating 6-7 for now. Maybe I will make separate entries later.
Trailers available on several sites (from the movie company).

Kirschen in Nachbars Garten (1956)

Comedy film, remake, starring Oskar Sima
-Year: 1956
-Year in film: 1950s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boy Toni ~12 ys, girl
-Who in clothing 2: swimwear
-Available on DVD: no
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Toni and his girlfriend in traditional buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders (pictured). I don't know their names. 3 short scenes, mainly at the beginning. The 3rd scene later, the Lederhosen are not shown completely. Also in swimwear. I think also a teen boy/young man (supporting actor) shown from behind.

Quite funny movie and it's very rare with a boy AND a girl in Lederhosen. Almost like a Heimatfilm.

Also starring Grethe Weiser, Wolfgang Völz, Mario Adorf and others. Music by Peter Alexander (not acting). I think not on DVD (unlike the 1935 version starring Karl Valentin). Can be watched again online at das-vierte.de (for some days). No clips on YouTube.

For the few scenes I can't rate higher than 6.

'A' gai wak

Eastern (Jackie Chan's "Project A")
-Year: 1983
-Year in film: ~1800
-Country: Hong Kong
-Who in clothing: men, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: other historical clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Some men, including Jackie Chan as sailors in white sailor suits, blue collar, 2 stripes, set in about 1800. And others in historical clothing.

Sorry, if you don't like men in sailor suits.
As I only have few good films with kids in sailor suits and even fewer with Lederhosen, I will also add films and series with girls, women and men if I found them by coincidence (like on TV). Maybe someone like it.
I try my best to find new good entries. Maybe I already have the best movies, especially Heimatfilms. I read, that there are only about 280 classic Heimatfilms.
So be prepared for another 3-4 rating entries.

Anyway, this is a quite funny and interesting movie and one of the best known Jackie Chan films. Quite unusual setting and unusual sailor suit for an Eastern also with pirates.

I haven't seen it completely recently as I watched and recorded something else.

I can't rate any higher than 3 for now for sailor suit scenes.

Info 56: On TV February 2

B&W Michael Ande 1956 film "Zärtliches Geheimnis" aka Ferien in Tirol.

2.2.12 10.25 German channel Das Erste (ARD). Not on DVD.
Rating 5 for now (young boys in Lederhosen with suspenders).

Gib' acht auf Susi!

DFF TV comedy film
-Year: 1968
-Year in film: 1960s
-Country: East Germany
-Who in clothing: boy ~10ys, Lederhosen?
-Who in clothing 2: shorts, speedos
-Available on DVD: no
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least one boy in shorts, look like buckskin Lederhosen with a belt. And another boy in shorts, also boys in speedos. The white shirt looks almost like a sailor suit with a striped dickey, just missing the collar.

I don't know/don't remember this complete movie. Maybe quite interesting but I think there are better ones.

Directed by Klaus Genries ("Aber Vati!", see that entry).
Starring Kaspar Eichel, Fred Lenz, Dorit Gäbler, Ronny Mudlaff and others.
I assume medium or fewer good scenes as they are not the main characters, but a teen girl (older sister).
Movie seems to be quite rare. No clips on YouTube, no DVD nor VHS release found.

Rating 3-4 for now.

Odin iz nas

Russian action/WWII film
-Year: 1970

-Who in clothing: boy, young woman, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: pants suspenders, others
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: At least a young boy and a teen girl/young woman in a sailor suit/sailor dress, and at least one young boy in pants with suspenders (maybe Lederhosen), a group of boys in shirts with socialist scarves. Probably also WWII uniforms. The sailor collar of the boy is flying up in the wind.

I don't know this complete movie and found it by coincidence and first only saw the scene of the woman. So much more interesting scenes, though probably I don't like those war movies.

Russian title "Один из нас", English title "One of Us".
I can't say much more as I don't understand Russian. So I also don't know the names of the actors.
Rating 4 for now.

Bärenburger Schnurre

B&w DEFA family film

-Who in clothing 2: harlequin costume
-Available on DVD: no

-Comment: At least one or more boys in pants with and without suspenders, not sure if buckskin Lederhosen or cotton pants.

A rare movie. I haven't found any clips nor other pics, nor DVD nor VHS releases. Directed by Ralf Kirsten, novel by Hermann Werner Kubsch.
Aka "Hans Eulenspiegel, English title "The Baerenburg Farce". Russian tite "Беренбургские россказни".

Can someone please read that title on this movie poster and write it at a comment. Pozna..ü or Pozna..ii  .. Bärenburg. I can't identify that language, is that Czech? Looks like a diacritic charater. The word must be something meaning like "stories"

http://st.kinopoisk.ru/images/film/68438.jpg

I can't say much more. Looks quite interesting. I hope for a soon broadcasting. Though the boys look quite young.

Starring Paul Heidemann, Axel Dietrich and Erika Dunkelmann.

Mensch, Oma!

Family series, 4 ep.
-Year: 1984
-Year in film: 1980s
-Country: East Germany
-Who in clothing: young man, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: woman bibs, boy shorts
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least a young man /teen boy as sailor in a sailor suit on a train (pictured), I don't know his name. Pic is from beginning of ep. 4. Also a young woman (mother?) in blue bib overalls and a young girl in light brown bibs (see my other blog). There are also starring at least 3 boys (oldest 12 yo) and probably some more supporting actors, but I don't know of any in Lederhosen or sailor suits. At least one in tight blue shorts.

I don't know/don't remember this complete DEFA/DFF mini family/comedy series. But there are definitely better ones.

Starring Agnes Kraus (1911-1995) as grandma, Walter Lendrich, Solveig Müller and Uwe Jellineck.

Can't rate any higher than 2-3 for now for the sailor suit scene. For more see my other blog. There is a trailer (but without good scenes).

Stanley Zoobris Home Movies

Personal 8mm home movies
-Year: 1939-1964
-Year in film: ~1960s
-Country: USA, Canada
-Who in clothing: girl, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2: maybe others
-Available on DVD: no/download
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least one young girl in a white sailor dress at a beach and one boy in a short suit with a collar, but probably not a sailor suit.

I found this by coincidence at archive.org. There are 21 movies, and this reel 10 is one of the few ones in color and with 15 minutes longer than most of the others. And it's interesting showing private vintage scenes.
But the image quality is extremely poor. It's most of the time out of foucus, I think it had not been not professionally digitized.

Not Public Domain but Creative Commons license CC-By-NC-ND. British Stanley Zoobris (1907-1964) filmed it. Contact info at archive.org states Kurt Kaufman.

http://www.archive.org/details/StanleyZoobrisHomeMovies-Reel010

There are some other good color movies at archive.org mostly tagged educational like "Bicycle Clown (1958) with US boys in jeans but that doesn't belong in this blog.

Tomorrow's Youth

PD drama starring Dickie Moore
-Year: 1935
-Year in film: 1930s ?
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Thomas Jr. ~10, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: boys in overalls
-Available on DVD: yes + download
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Dickie Moore (pictured) in a short medium (blue ?) sailor suit, darker short pointed collar, 2 stripes. Also a dark long sailor suit, dark regular collar, 3 stripes and 2 stars, also 3 striped dark dickey.
Also at least 2 boys in bib overalls (see my other blog, rating 5) and boys in speedos of the 1930s (shirtless), see thumbnails on archive.org.

I found this PD movie by coincidence. Looks quite good. Interesting sailor suits, some good scenes. Rating 6 for now.
I haven't checked it completely. One other PD color movie coming soon.

Dickie Moore also starred 1934 in the PD movie "In Love with Life", rating 5.

Ziemassvētku jampadracis

Family film
-Year: 1993
-Year in film: ~1935
-Country: Latvia, Germany
-Who in clothing: Raymond ~8, shorts w. suspenders
-Who in clothing 2: others in historical clothing
-Available on DVD: VHS only?
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least one boy in longer shorts with suspenders (maybe not of leather) and white stockings, and also some other kids in historical clothing (pictured). A young girl with a collar, but no sailor dress. I don't know the names of the actors as they are credited at IMDb as "child".

I saw 2 pics yesterday at my 2nd flickr-link (Karl'sfriend, who also often upload new pics with Lederhosen and sailor suits). It's also on Histclo (no pics shown if unregistered, but lot of text infos).
Though this film is not titled "Christmas turmoil" but would translate similar like this. The movies' subtitles say "Christmas Huddle", but this is maybe also not official. German title "Aufregung um Weihnachten". IMDb says 1996, but this is also untrue. Produced 1993, first shown 1997 in Germany, maybe earlier elsewhere.

This movie is completely on YouTube since 2 days, but I haven't seen it completely. I think I won't like this movie. Lot of dark pics. The setting, plot and the oldest boy reminds me of "Fanny och Alexander" (see that entry with perfect sailor suit scenes).

Maybe a quite unusual movie and interesting obviously accurate historical clothing. Have to check again, but rating 2-3 only for now.

Adieu, mon ami

WWII TV drama starring Jens Harzer
-Year: 1996
-Year in film: 1943
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: Dagmar ~11, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2: boy ~10 Lederhosen
-Available on DVD: no?
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: medium ?
-Rating:  5/10 *
-Rating: *****
-Comment: 11 or 12 yo Julie Engelbrecht (pictured) as 10 yo young Dangmar in a sailor dress, blue top, white skirt, white collar, 2 stripes and a loose collar at one side. And pigtails.

I don't know/don't remember this complete movie. Probably I have seen it long time ago. Novel "Der Zwillingsbruder" by Barbara Noack; directed by Franz Peter Wirth. Also scenes of the 1970s. The plot is also about the relationship of the 10 yo girl and a 17 yo French (24 yo Harzer). Also starring Constanze Engelbrecht (1955-2000, mother of Julie), Hans Kremer and Petra Berndt.

I have to check this again but looks quite good. I also like the setting (Hamburg) and the unusual untidy white sailor collar. Medium or fewer sailor dress scenes as she also wore something else.
Rating 5-6 for now.
I haven't found any release nor clips on YouTube.

Ja, ja die Liebe in Tirol

Heimatfilm starring Hans Moser
-Year: 1955
-Year in film: 1950s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: men, boys Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: VHS only?
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low *
-Rating:  2/10
-Rating: **
-Comment: No notable kids in Lederhosen (see below) but 3 or 4 very good Schuhplattler, incl. several show plattler Holzhacker Plattler and Watschnplattler of young men in their 20s and 30s and maybe some older men.

I noticed just one boy sitting in the audience, showing back of his suspenders only and at the end in a group probably some boys in longer dark buckskin Lederhosen, but hard to see and in a distance (pic below, they come closer but not much better view, see clip).

Funny long Lederhosen (on stilts) and Holzhackerplattler (one man upside down as a tree while other sawing and a (real) brawl. One man has much patina Lederhosen almost like black smooth finish ones. Funny also Gunther Philipp with red hair and green Lederhosen.

Starring Gerhard Riedmann, Doris Kirchner, Gunther Philipp and others. Directed by Géza von Bolváry. Film is quite good, very good landscape scenes (mainly mountains), but due to few younger actors only rating 2-3.

Info 55: postviews, postcard blogs etc

Prinz Alexander Ferdinand von Preußen (*1912)

Yesterday I noticed by coincidence that there were many clicks on my vintage pics, much more than postviews. (And even more than the original source pic).

Each of the crown prince pics in Lederhosen has 235 x viewed but there were only 11 postviews of the info 53 post. My longest collar retouched pic has 59 hits, but 1 postview only. The rest might have found this on Picasa or Google search. Not sure if people like those pics. Or prefer movie entries. But I assume that most would like download links or perfect pics anyway.

Many of the recent pics have many hits (about 200-300), also sailor suit pics, while many older pics just have 50-100. Obviously it depends on what is on top at Google image search.
Some very good pics (Rick Schroder) or even Lederhosen pics have <50 hits, others like Feriengewitter has 768 (535 postviews), but Mädel aus dem Böhmerwald just has 535 hits and more postviews (729). And it's also not only the top viewed postviews or the thumbnails. My blog title pic has 5900 hits, all pageviews are 22000. I often have only about 1-5 postviews each day (some >10), the recent Lederhosen pic had 35 hits (3 postviews).

There are some more (also with both princes in Lederhosen) and they are hard to find if someone just search for pics of the princes because there are many pics, mostly without Lederhosen. Not sure if they are all in the Public Domain.

I've also added 2 links at info 53 with postcard blogs.

Son of Frankenstein (1939)

Horror film starring Boris Karloff
-Year: 1939
-Year in film: 1930s
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Peter ~5 ys, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: I think Donnie Dunagan in a long dark (blue) sailor suit (pictured). Blue collar, 3 stripes. Blue dickey with 3 stripes at the neck.
I don't remeber the complete movie but only noticed one few scene at the end of the movie.

Starring Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Basil Rathbone and others.
99 minutes and sound. I like classic movies and horror movies. But maybe there are better (Frankenstein movies). The kid is also very young and few sailor suit scenes. Would be better in color which was planned and tested.
Obviously not yet in the Public Domain. At least not on archive.org.

I think I have to check also the other Frankenstein movies.
Rating 3.

Die Landärztin (2005)

Modern Heimatfilm series 2005-, ep. Der Vaterschaftstest
-Year: 2007
-Year in film: 2007
-Country: Germany, Austra
-Who in clothing: Max ~10 ys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: girl dirndl, men Lederhosen, woman overalls
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Daniel Perez (pictured) in long dark brown buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders. 2 short scenes at the beginning and near the end. At the beginning even shorter scene and with a jacket (suspenders not shown).
Some few men in Lederhosen (also dancing), a young farm woman in bib overalls (see my other blog) but also few scenes. Farm content (horse, cows, pig) but very few or none with the boy.

Also starring Christine Neubauer, Siegfried Rauch, Johanna von Koczian and others.

I don't like this Heimatfilm. Young boy (even younger looking like ~8 ys), and few scenes, like usual for modern Heimatfilms. Also some quite good scenes of this boy together in one bed with his mom. I think he also wore jeans, but even fewer scenes. Some dramatic scenes like usual in Heimatfilms (not with this boy) and party scene at the end.

Rating 4-5.

Story 16: Sailor collars , types 2 and purpose

"I have the longest collar".

I'm still fascinated about sailor suits and sailor collars. Isn't it one of the weirdest clothing (next to Lederhosen)? Now some new facts:

Probably most wondered what is the purpose of the sailor collar.

According to the book "Der Matrosenanzug - Kulturgeschichte eines Markenartikels" from an early manufacturer (see info 17) the main reason for the collar is to protect the clothing underneath at the shoulders from the tearing ropes. Additionally because of the oiled braids of the seamen. (Not sure if this is 100% true, the last point is according to wikipedia untrue).

Most sailor collars shown on the web are removable collars like a simple shaped "Ƞ" but there are different collars like in the movie "Lord Jeff" with attached (sewed) white lengthenings on front an back so it can be pulled over the head and tied together at the waist (or a bit higher). So It might be not so complicated for dressing this on. Not sure if can be tied together alone. But kids were dressed by their moms anyway. I wonder how tight.

First I thought that this might only be the case for real sailors and not for kids but I now also saw some kid collars on ebay and also other vintage collars on other auction sites. I considered buying one, but most vintage cotton collars are in quite bad condition (and expensive) and the newer ones aren't original but costumes. Russian collars have a slightly different shape (lids at front more narrow and more like a "Ʌ", there's a pic on wikimedia commons.)

The pic above is showing crown prince Wilhelm of Prussia (*1882) and his sister Victoria Luise (*1892). The original pic is believed to be in the Public Domain (taken in the 1890s, at least PD in the US and Europe). Sailor lengthening by myself.

For more infos see the other story and info entries, especially

Piefke, der Schrecken der Kompanie

Comedy film starring Harald Juhnke
-Year: 1958
-Year in film: 1910
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: Luise ~28 ys, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2: uniforms, bathing costumes
-Available on DVD: VHS only
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: I think Gardy Granass (pictured) in a long dark blue sailor dress. Blue collar, 3 stripes. Also grown ups in bathing costumes, striped and sailor dress style with a collar.
Also lots of men in historical military uniforms of 1910.

I don't like this film. Though quite funny with Harald Juhnke (unpictured) in a double role as hereditary prince and hair dresser. No kids in sailor suits nor Lederhosen. At least it's quite unusual for a woman in a real blue sailor dress. Interesting sailor's hat. No dickey and an anchor on the scarf.

Also starring Hubert von Mayerinck, Wolfgang Völz and Klaus Dahlen.
I only found a VHS release. No trailers. Film aka "Harald Juhnke, der Schrecken der Kompanie".

Rating 2-3.

Abenteuer im Schloss

Heimatfilm starring Doris Kirchner
-Year: 1952
-Year in film: 1950s
-Country: Austria
-Who in clothing: boys ~5-10 ys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: teens or young men, Lederhosen
-Available on DVD: no
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating:  6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Some boys in traditional buckskin Lederhosen (pictured). One younger boy in maybe black smooth finish or nappa Lederhosen with suspenders (small pic top right). Some shirtless. One boy climbing up a pole in Lederhosen (pic bottom right). Also some teens or young man in the background at a funfair but I remember few men.

I think 2 short scenes (or 1 quite long, perhaps 5 minutes) at about 1/3 of this movie.

I recorded this movie and had to watch it at fast speed, but I only noticed these very few and short scenes, though lots of actors. One scene of the background actors isn't pictured.

Quite unusual Heimatfilm /comedy/musical film with a haunting castle. But showing only grown ups in there and dancing scenes at the end. I don't know any of the grown up actors and the movie is nothing special.
However the kids and the Lederhosen scenes are quite good.

Starring Herta Staal, Erni Mangold and Gerhard Riedmann. No clips on YouTube, No VHS no DVD found.

Rating 6.

Schrammeln

Comedy film starring Hans Holt
-Year: 1944
-Year in film: ~1890s
-Country: Austria
-Who in clothing: boys ~5-9 ys, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: At least 3 young boys in white sailor suits and flat sailor's hats (pictured). Dark collar, 2 stripes, white dickeys. I assume short sailor suits.
And of course lots of others in historical clothing and hats.

I don't know/don't remember this complete movie, so I can't say much more about it, but I assume rather few good scenes with sailor suits.

Starring Hans Holt, Hans Moser, Paul Hörbiger, Franz Imhoff and Marte Harell.

Directed by Géza von Bolváry (1897-1961) who did lots of similar musical movies and Heimatfilms (incl. "Das Donkosakenlied" starring Stefan Haar, "Hoch droben auf dem Berg", both Heimatfilms which I still have to check, not sure if also younger actors in Lederhosen in the 2nd one).

Probably an interesting period movie also about Austrian music.
Rating 4 for now.

Schloss Einstein - season 15

German TV series about a boarding school, 15+ seasons
-Year: 1998-
-Year in film: 2011
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: Jonny ~13ys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: not yet
-I own: yes, TV recordings
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  8/10 ?
-Rating: ********
-Comment: Paul Hartmann in Lederhosen (pictured).

In this new season 15 (2 episodes yet) there will be this new teen in traditional buckskin Lederhosen. No scenes of him yet in Lederhosen, pic is from the intro. First I wasn't sure if there will be Lederhosen scenes or if it's just for the intro, but I've read that he likes German folk music and might play the character of a child actor or music star.
New (first) episode next Saturday, January 21.

So I can't say much more yet.
Update: As of end February no other scenes in Lederhosen except for a small pic shown at a computer monitor. I will update this as soon as I notice any other Lederhosen scenes.

For this series and other boys in Lederhosen (can't be found by a simple blog search due to Google's bugs), see entry Schloss Einstein here (rating 8) and also on my other blog for boys/girls in overalls/shortalls.

http://sailorsuitsandlederhosenfilmblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/schloss-einstein.html

This boy also in orange bib overalls cleaning the pig stall. Also a boy in blue and one in red bibs. Rating 9. (See my other blog Info 124.)

Info 53: vintage pics, new blogs found

Prince Albrecht, Bavaria.

I searched for good vintage pics some days ago but couldn't find good websites (as I told before pics often not tagged properly).
Yesterday I found very good blogs with vintage photographs, CDV (carte de visite), postcards etc. Royalties and unknown people.

Some blogs are just for fun others for identifying people and reunite families, others are interested in the story behind the pics and the time, others are collectors and salesmen.

Some pics might still be copyrighted (or at least watermarked) and some people are maybe still living. Some blogs even has pics until the 1970s.

The links are showing boys in sailor suits (some with girls) but if you search you might find other interesting pics (maybe Lederhosen and overalls). The pics above are taken from loc.gov. I have also linked my open Picasa albums on the right.

Many high res pics are on this site, lots of German ones (tags children, families, nautical), I like

Lots of good vintage pics here, I like King Baudouin of Belgium (1930-1993), son of King Leopold III

-Comment: A young boy (probably the main character 10 yo Pianke (pictured), I don't know the name of the actor, I think 9 yo Andreas Groß) and maybe some more in dark brown Lederhosen or shorts. Looks like nappa leather, 2 zippers.

I don't know/don't remember this complete movie yet but looks very interesting setting in Germany during WWII and is about a German and a Jewish family or girl. Novel by Peter Abraham, published in 1981. Movie also contains skinny dipping scenes in the sea/ on a ship.

I haven't found any offival DVD/VHS releases. There is a VHS and maybe a DVD+R probably for usage at schools only. Jugendvideopreis 1994.

I will check this again soon. Rating 7 for now.

La promesa (2004)

Spanish thriller
-Year: 2004
-Year in film: 2000s ?
-Country: Spain
-Who in clothing: Daniel ~ 8 ys ?, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes

-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating:  4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Santiago Barón in a long white sailor suit (pictured). Long dark blue collar, 3 stripes.

I only saw half of this movie. No sailor suits in the beginning. I only noticed this scene in a church. Quite weird an unusual (for a sailor suit movie, late setting). But the boy is very young.

This is a low budget thriller/horror movie starring Carmen Maura, Juan Margallo and Ana Fernándes. English title "The Promise".

I have to check it completely. Rating 4-5 for now.

Warum kann ich nicht artig sein?

DEFA kids film
-Year: 1974
-Year in film: 1970s ?
-Country: East Germany
-Who in clothing: Andreas ~ 9 ys ?, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: maybe others
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating:  3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least one young boy in buckskin Lederhosen, 2 zippers without suspenders in a locker room at the beginning of the movie, I think also shirtless. Probably the main character Andreas Hoppe, played by Michael Hunger. Maybe more in Lederhosen or shorts.

Sorry, I don't know this complete movie and found it by coincidence (video recommendation).

Novel "Betragen 4" by Alfred Reinhold Böttcher. Reminds me of Alfons Zitterbacke (see that entry). But I can't say much more about this movie.
I have to check this again. Rating 3-4 for now. No VHS/DVD release, no clips on YouTube.

The Wind and the Lion

Drama starring Sean Connery, nominated for 2 Oscars
-Year: 1975
-Year in film: 1904
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Jennifer ~ 13 ys, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2: William ~12 ys knickerbockers
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: medium
-Rating:  5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: Potty Gottesman in a white sailor dress, white collar, 3 stripes, wide dark blue scarf (pictured). Also Simon Harrison in a brown suit and knickerbockers or similar (pic bottom right on a horse).

I saw nearly the complete movie and it's quite interesting and good unusual setting with a girl in a white sailor dress in a desert of Morocco.

Starring Candice Bergen as their mother (bottom left), Steve Kanaly and Brian Keith as Theodore Rooselvelt.
Riding scenes of all. Film rated PG. Directed by John Milius, music by Jerry Goldsmith ("The Waltons", Star Trek).

I usually don't like those action and desert movies and it could be better. Why no boys in sailor suits? But could be worse. However good plot about a kidnapping and famous actors.

Rating 5.

-Comment: Stefan Haar ("Das Donkasakenlied", "Skandal um Dr. Vlimmen") in buckskin brown Lederhosen with suspenders.

Sorry, no pics yet and no scenes of him in the clip (I only add it to verify this movie).

One pic of him in this movie is here (not showing his Lederhosen)

Comedy, Musical, Romance, Heimatfilm starring Caterina Valente, Rudolf Prack, Ruth Stefan and Rudolf Platte. Directed by Werner Jacobs, screenplay by Curth Flatow.

Generally I don't like boys with curly dark hair (also like Michael Ande) and I also don't like him in "Das Donkosakenlied" but I think this movie might be a bit better.

I hope for a soon broadcasting (also of Dr. Vlimmen), rating 6 for now.

Info 51: New tag USSR, pic updates

Prince John (UK) 1913

Prince Sigvard (Sweden) and others

I now have the tag USSR for Soviet films and updated my PD Picasa album.
I try to find more free pics, the problem is, that such pics often not tagged "sailor suits" elsewhere. I still hope to find free Lederhosen pics.
