I don't know this film and found this image on the web by coincidence. Looks very good. Famous Dutch novel by Anton Roothaert. Film aka "Tierarzt Dr. Vlimmen (1956). There is also an unfinished 1944 movie and a 1977 Dutch movie (by Guido Pieters, released on DVD) with the same title (Tierarzt Dr. Vlimmen).

Starring Bernhard Wicki as Dr. Vlimmen, Ellen Schwiers and others.
This 1956 b/w version has not been released on neither DVD nor VHS. There are some offers on the web who sell or rent tapes, but this must be TV recordings. First (and maybe only) shown on TV in 2007. And there was a film festival in 2010 where it was shown. There are copies at the Bundesarchiv in Berlin (35 mm and DVD, but they don't sell them). Filmed partly in Hagenbeck's Tierpark.
There are few pics on the feb, including theatralic poster and some publicity stills (including child actor Stefan Haar). Haar also starred (and sang) in Heimatfilm "Das Donkosakenlied" (the same year) but I don't like him (at least not in there). Rating 8 for now.
