-Comment: Some young men ~20-30 ys in buckskin Lederhosen I think 2 with H-style suspenders. One is called Philipp (pictured top left), who later died in this film. One boy seems much younger, maybe 16 (right on right). Also boy Harry Kratz ("Die Sennerin von St. Kathrein", rating 8) in a short scene in longer, non-leather pants and a small hat sitting down and a eating a lot of cake (pic below). Also some altar boys and historic images of real Pope Pius XII. Novel by Franz Werfel. Also starring Hans Holt ("Die Trapp-Familie"), Annie Rosar, Senta Berger and Ernst Nadherny. Not sure about the year of setting, I think scenes of beginning and end (Pope) were set in the 1950s but most of the films are flashbacks, mabe 1930s or 1940s).
I don't like this film. Not a real Heimatfilm for me, and few Lederhosen scenes (2 medium scenes of the young men in the woods and later in the bedroom of the dying man/teen boy). So rating 3-4.
German production but Austrian actors. I found no VHS nor DVD. There was also a 1990 remake but I have to check that.
