Da lacht Tirol

Comedy /Heimatfilm starring Beppo Brem
-Year: 1967
-Year in film: 1960s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~10-12, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: men, Lederhosen
-Available on DVD: VHS only
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: medium
-Rating: 9/10
-Rating: *********
-Comment: 2 boys in short smooth finish Lederhosen (one in black with a belt, one in brown without suspenders). Later also one in a long buckskin Lederhosen. Probably the Hochfilzer brothers, one might be 13, probably sons of Hansjörg Hochfilzner. One other might be Toni Hagemüller. One very brief scene of a very young boy in  buckskin Lederhosen with H-style suspenders (but far in the distance) and some men in short and long Lederhosen. Also Schuhplattler dancing (men only).

As announced this movie with almost perfect scenes. Sadly some few minutes mostly at the beginning (hanging at a church bell, also some even better scenes while swinging and ringing the bell, but I choose this one), later standing and playing with his belt, also rolling in the grass but bad view and in the distance.

One rather short scene of young men dancing with women, Schuhplatter but no Watchnplattler. Dirndldrahn. Typical wide green Tyrolean cotton suspenders, buckskin or patina leather. Also older men in longer black buckskin Lederhosen. But also not many scenes.

Half of this movie are mountain climbing scenes in the snow and very boring. Even not funny at all. I considered even rating 10, maybe one of the best smooth finish Lederhosen scenes ever (so far). But personally I prefer Lederhosen with suspenders and real, peacefully Heimatfilms with cabins and animals. I have to watch it again and compare it to other movies (with teens). I couldn't find any clips and only a VHS release.

Novel by Karl Springenschmid. Also starring Sepp Rist, Rudi Lindner and Franz Jäger. Film aka "Entscheidung am wilden Kaiser" and Ruf der Berge.

Feuerwerk (1954)

Comedy film starring Lilli Palmer, Romy Schneider
-Year: 1954
-Year in film: 1909
-Country: Germany, CH
-Who in clothing: boy ~12, other boys, girls, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: suit, knickers
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: medium
-Rating: 7/10
-Rating: *******
-Comment: One boy in a quite rare medium blue sailor suit, white collar, 3 stripes, blue scarf (also white napkin), long white stockings, not 100% sure but I think this might be 12 yo Peter Rühmann (son of famous Heinz Rühmann and part of the main family in this movie), 3 quite long scenes (also sitting in the circus, first row, having fun) and also in other traditional clothing (suit). Some other younger and older boys and (teen) girls, mostly inside a circus (nearly the complete 2nd half of this film is set there). Also one boy with a very good white collar and his white dickey hanging out, and one boy with a short brown sailor collar (I will make a separate story entry of this 2, soon). Some grown-ups, especially women in historical clothing and collars, but I think none in a real sailor dress, typical period clothing with umbrellas, also costumes and circus uniforms. Some other younger kids in the background, but often very short scenes and far in the distance. Some with flat straw hats. No notable close up views of girls in sailor dresses.

Finally another good historical sailor suit movie which I haven't seen before. Had just been aired.

Starring Lilli Palmer, Romy Schneider, Claus Biederstaedt, Rudolf Vogel, Lina Carstens and others. Directed by Kurt Hoffmann (Rheinsberg (1967), rating 5, Das fliegende Klassenzimmer (1954), Morgens um Sieben ist die Welt noch in Ordnung). English title "Fireworks".

I'm, not sure if I would buy this movie. Some few good scenes but sadly too many circus scenes. But I give rating 6-7. There are also 3 later movies in 1963, 1971 and 1976, which I also have to check. There are some clips on YouTube. Very good and long white collar flap, but no perfect close up view from behind. The boy with the dark blue collar (pic 4) is also shown completely, rather short suit and thin, and I think it's the same in pic 3.

Yevdokiya

Soviet b&w drama
-Year: 1961
-Year in film: 1920-60s
-Country: Soviet Union
-Who in clothing: boy ~5 ?, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating: 2/10
-Rating: **
-Comment: One young blond boy in a dark (blue) long sailor suit (pictured). I don't know his name.

Original title :Evdokia (aka Evdokija which is a female name) Russian title: Евдокия, German title: "Du mußt nicht einsam sein". I have checked the complete movie on YouTube (at high speed) and only found this two scenes (first inside a building (court?) and after that outside.

I don't like this movie. Very few sailor suit scenes and the boy is very young. Movie is b&w and I think the plot is also nothing special (I don't understand Russian). Available on DVD with English subtitles. I'm not sure about the year of setting of this scene. The movie is set from 1920-1960s, but I doubt that the scene is from 1920s, so probably a late sailor suit setting.

Directed by Tatyana Lioznova (1924-2011), starring Lyudmila Khityaeva as Jewdokija and Nikolai Lebedev as Jewdokim.

Rating 1-2. Quite interesting sailor suit and dickey.

The Drum (1938)

PD adventure film
-Year: 1938
-Year in film: 1930s ?
-Country: UK
-Who in clothing: Bill ~19 ?,  kilt
-Who in clothing 2: Indian, shirtless
-Available on DVD: yes+download
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating: 3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: One teen boy in a kilt, looks like Desmond Tester (1919-2002). He looks younger than 19, so maybe filmed earlier. Also a younger Indian boy (also shirtless).

I found this early Technicolor PD movie by coincidence on YouTube. Though I haven't checked it completely I assume rather few good scenes according to the thumbnails. Maybe someone likes this or the other boy.

Not sailor suit but a kilt is a traditional and quite weird clothing for a boy (see also List 16: Other traditional clothing for another boy in a kilt and else).

The Woman in Black (2012)

Horror film starring Daniel Radcliffe
-Year: 2012
-Year in film: 1900s ?
-Country: UK, CDN, Sweden
-Who in clothing: boy ~9,  sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: others, ~7-9 ys, hist. clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: very low
-Rating: 3/10 *
-Rating: ***
-Comment: One boy at about 1h10 in a long white sailor suit, white collar and dickey, 2 stripes each (very short scene). Also I think 2 boys in good historical clothing (one younger boy in color at the end of the movie). Also some girls acting (some with pigtails) in historical clothing/dresses but no sailor dresses.

First I considered something else for today, but why not a British film (even set in London) because of the Olympic Games? Another movie with a teen boy in a kilt coming soon.

That's the other suggestion. Thanks very much. First I had problems finding this movie, then this scene. It's a very short flashback scene of an old lady (they are also sitting on the beach but shown from a distance). I haven't seen the backside and the collar flap. Due to the flashback, I'm not exactly sure of the time setting of this scenes (I read Victorian and also Edwardian, so might be much earlier).  I only checked some frames of about every minute , so I haven't really seen this movie at slow speed. It's a good ghost story (1983 novel by Susan Hill) and I would maybe give a higher rating for the movie itself, but I can't rate any higher than 3-4 for this short sailor suit scenes. And I like white sailor suits and collars. But I somehow don't like the older Daniel Radcliffe and still see him as Harry Potter. Rated PG-13, so it's a dark thriller and ghost film and not a slasher horror film.

Also starring Emma Shorey, Molly Harmon and Sophie Stuckey. There is also a related 1989 movie (which I also have to check) and also earlier, so probably unrelated movies.

Here's a pic of probably all kids in this film, also showing the sailor suit

Admiral (2008)

War / history film WWI
-Year: 2008
-Year in film: 1918
-Country: Russia
-Who in clothing: boys ~9, men, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: grown- ups, bathing costumes
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: very low *
-Rating: 4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: One boy (called Slavushka, real name not known, uncredited at IMDb) in a good sailor suit, white blouse and dickey, medium blue collar, 2 stripes, no scarf, and medium length dark blue pants. I think barefeet on the beach. Short scene at about 0:16. One even shorter scene of a boy in a white sailor suit (shown from behind only, pic 3 below) and many men in good sailor suits, long cap tally at the backside, longer than the collars. Also some grown-ups, mostly women in bathing costumes but also briefly shown in the background. One young boy later in a dark blue, short non-sailor suit and a flat straw hat (at about 0:40).

The first sailor suit film suggestion. Thanks very much! The other film is coming soon. If anybody else knows some good films, please comment (anywhere).

Russian title: "Адмиралъ", 124 minutes. I have checked most of the movie (at high speed) but noticed only this few scenes (of boys).

Rating 4-5 for this short scenes. Could be worse.

Story 46: Exclusive photo #18: sailor suit boy - goat

This tiny pic showing Adalbert, probably German in Nov 1913 with a goat. It's not my best pic (one of my favourite and most expensive ones and much better ones coming next). The pic has many scratches and I already have tried to remove most of them. Don't know the location, maybe Southern Germany and it looks like a vivarium or zoo. So maybe no slaughtering or milking.

The expression is interesting. What was he thinking about. And who was happier: The goat or the boy. And what was he doing with it and who had taken the picture?

The stockings are not short but most boys had longer stockings to cover the bare knees. The collar is short at front, so I assume a long collar flap, sadly it can't be seen.

3 new entries on my exclusive TOP 5 list and some on my other stat pics. Exclusive #4 almost has 1000 hits yet. And there are new tumblr blogs showing it (but I don't link to WWII and cadaver image blogs). Pic 4 was taken in 1930 (not 30s) and has not much to do with WWII nor cadavers. Not much sailor suit pics on there anyway.

Nicholas Nickleby (2002)

Romance starring Charlie Hunnam, Jamie Bell
-Year: 2002
-Year in film: 1830s
-Country: UK, USA
-Who in clothing: boys, historical clothing
-Who in clothing 2: others, costumes
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating: 2/10 *
-Rating: **
-Comment: Some poor boys in traditional clothing (pictured), also at least 2 spanking scenes. Of course also grown ups in historical clothing and even 1500s costumes.

I'm not sure if I should add movies without sailor suit and Lederhosen scenes. But I'm running out of (good) movies.  I think I shouldn't add every film with boys in shorts, knickers or else, except if I like them very much or other interesting scenes  and as I have the tag spanking I add this here as well.

I only noticed few scenes with the boys and most scenes are very dark. I also don't like 16 yo Jamie Bell here (nominated for a Young Artist Award). Some quite good historical clothing of grown ups (hats) and women.

Nominated for a Golden Globe and starring Christopher Plummer, Anne Hathaway and even Dame Edna Everage, 132 minutes, rated PG. Novel by Charles Dickens (Oliver Twist". There are also other and much earlier versions of Nicholas Nickleby (even a 1903 version and not to be confused with the 2001 version). I only checked some few parts of a b/w version on YouTube but no sailor suit or other scenes of interest.

Rating 2 for the boy scenes. Please also note my previous post today (announcement of a good Lederhosen movie).

Info 111: On TV week 30/31 2012

Lot of Heimatfilms these days, especially at noon on channel SWR. Often 2 each working day. However I already have most of them.

And next Tuesday, July 31 "Da lacht Tirol" which had been canceled last month and looks very good (probably smooth finish Lederhosen).

http://www.cinema.de/film/da-lacht-tirol,1301239,ApplicationGallery.html

Also Wetterleuchten über dem Zillertal (rating 2) July 26, ARD and a new episode of "Deutsche Dynastien" at Friday.

Die Zwillinge vom Zillertal

Musical Heimatfilm starring Joachim Fuchsberger
-Year: 1957
-Year in film: 1950s ?
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: women, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: others ?
-Available on DVD: VHS only
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating: 2/10 ??
-Rating: **
-Comment: At least 2 women in Lederhosen, I think twins Alice and Ellen Kessler. Sorry, no pics yet, one is at

http://live01.kino-extra.con-tech.de/edbimages/23/_WF2CZKytkImX01hdhKmss2Gxxg==.jpg

Also showing Isa and Jutta Günther (in dresses). Maybe more actors in lederhosen (men, probably boys ??).

Sorry I don't know/don't remember this Heimatfilm. Originally I searched, If I already had "Wetterleuchten über dem Zillertal (1974)" (I do, rating 2) and found a pic of this film.

Starring a lot of other famous actors like Karin Dor, Hans Moser and Wolfgang Gruner. Story by Karl Heinz Busse ("Mein Schatz ist aus Tirol" (rating 9) "Solange noch die Rosen blüh'n" (rating 6, girl in Lederhosen), "Die Fischerin vom Bodensee" (rating 8), "Übermut im Salzkammergut" (rating 8) and some more good Heimatfilms.

I have to check this musical/comedy/Heimatfilm again and hope for a soon broadcasting.

Rating 2-3 for now (but completely unsure).

Le comte de Monte Cristo (1998)

TV mini series starring Gérard Depardieu
-Year: 1998
-Year in film: ~1830s
-Country: France, D, I
-Who in clothing: boys, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: others, hist. clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating: 3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least 2 very young boys in blue sailor suits and hats playing outside (pictured) and also older boys in quite good historical clothing and non-sailor collars. All pics from ep. 3. Last episode will be aired next Friday.

I didn't expect sailor suits in this series because of it's very early setting of about 1830s. I even didn't expect boy actors at all here. Though I assume also very few scenes of supporting actors. Costumes and series looks very good. English title "The Count of Monte Christo". Also starring Ornella Muti and Jean Rochefort. Famous novel by Alexandre Dumas and I think I don't have to tell more about it.

I will check the last episode and update this later. I don't expect more sailor suit scenes in the first episodes (because of the plot). I also have to check other Monte Christo versions. I only remember watching the 1975 version starring Richard Chamberlain, but haven't seen it recently.

Rating 3 for now due to the young age and few scenes.

Info 110: New art pics

Two postcards of about 1910s. 2 brothers and a sister in pink and orange tinted sailor suits. Also interesting hats. Quite funny "Unsere blauen Jungen" ("Our Blue Boys)", reminds me of the Vienna Boys Choir but is probably patriotic. The last one from Théo Van Rysselberghe: Portrait of Children (1897)

Der Edelweißkönig (1975)

Heimatfilm, novel Ludwig Ganghofer, 2nd remake
-Year: 1975
-Year in film: 1900s ?
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: Pepperl ~10 ys , other boys shorts
-Who in clothing 2: men, Lederhosen, altar boys
-Available on DVD: VHS only
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium *
-Rating: 3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least 2 boys barefeet in (longer) shorts with suspenders, maybe buckskin leather, theroef Markus Neumaier as Pepperl, but no real Lederhosen with H-style suspenders known. Also altar boys (white/black clothing) and of course men in Lederhosen with suspenders and Tyrolean hats (pictured).

After the much better 1957 version (rating 8, smooth finish Lederhosen, see that entry), I make this entry for the sake of completion. 60 minutes are on archive.org (described as the 1957 version), but I doubt that this movie is in the Public Domain yet. Starring Robert Hoffmann, Adrian Hoven, Sky Du Mont and Friethjof Vierock. Directed by Alfred Vohrer (Derrick, Winnteou, Der Hexer).

I don't like this version, no good Lederhosen scenes, best are probably the altar boys. However probably a good plot and landscape scenes. I will check this again the next broadcasting.

Rating 2-3 for now.

Wilde

Biography, Oscar Wilde
-Year: 1997
-Year in film: ~1890s ?
-Country: UK, D, Japan
-Who in clothing: boys, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: low ?
-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least two young boys in short white sailor suits, white collars. One with a completely white collar and the other with (some) blue stripes, white scarves. And at least another one with a lace collar (pictured below), or is this a girl? I don't know their names.

After checking again different period film blogs I found this one by coincidence. I checked most of the film on YouTube (at high speed) and could only find this short scenes. The two boys are sitting at the water (no close up scene) stand up and walk away. But it's possible that I miss something. There are also other movies about Oscar Wilde which I have to check, too. Plot and setting are of course interesting.

Starring Stephen Fry (as Wilde), Jude Law and Vanessa Redgrave. Nominated for a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Film Award, rated R, aka "Oscar Wilde (1997)".

Rating 4-5 for now due to few sailor suit and probably kid scenes. I prefer blue striped collars, but could be worse.

Gentle Julia (1936)

Drama starring Jane Withers, remake
-Year: 1936
-Year in film: 1916 ?
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Florence ~ 10 ys, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2: teen boy, unknow clothes
-Available on DVD: no *
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating: 3/10 ?
-Rating: ***
-Comment: At least child star Jane Withers (pictured) in a white sailor dress. Dark (blue) collar, 2 stripes and an anchor on the dickey. She also wore navy clothing in later movies like "The Holy Terror" (clip in bad quality on YouTube).

I don't know this movie (62 minutes, sound, 1916 novel by Booth Tarkington), first filmed in 1923 (which I also have to check, but this is a silent film).

The pic is a publicity still / lobby card and I foud this or another pic of her by coincidence during research some time ago and couldn't find any clips nor better pics. Also starring child star Jackie Searl (1921-1991), see also Finn and Hattie (1931), rating 4, but I don't know if here in sailor suit as well, probably not but most likeley in some kind of historical clothing.

I can't say much more about it. I only found some DVD-r offers

Rating 3-4 for now.

Story 45: Exclusive photo #17: Boys Hungary 2 sailor suit 1926

My previous 2 exclusive pics had many hits, so here's another one. It's from a previous lot, same as the other mostly Hungarian pics like Exclusive #3, 6 and 8.

I don't recognize anybody else from earlier pics but believe that they might be Hungarians, too. Note the date format YYYY.MM.DD. 2 boys in sailor suits but sadly without stripes. Definitely not my best one and I wouldn't had bought it separately, but could be worse. The face expressions are quite good, note that nobody is smiling.

Most pics had German notes on the backside probably greetings to German relatives, but this has no notes. At least a precise date.

I can only speculate if the pics belong together or if they were neighbors or whatsoever.

The boy on the left looks first a bit feminine to me with his longer hair and the clothes (bow) but the next moment also masculine.

Next pics will be much better.

Also some scouts (sitting, but I don't like this vintage scout uniforms, some shorts, I think also one very young boy with suspenders, but I think no or no good one in Lederhosen. Boys swimming, maybe skinny dipping (but inside the water). Also family and girls, but most kids are younger. Searchable Database. Also good: # 31-67830, 63751 (close-up of pic2), 63349 (full view of pic 1 (breeches), 55944, 55650

1957 version On TV 19.7. (Heimatkanal) which can't be received for free.

I don't know/don't remember this complete movie. The first 50 minutes of the 1975 version is available at archive.org (but no or no notable Lederhosen scenes of boys, best is pictured, I think shorts only, also note that the boy is bare feet. Rating would be ~3.) Wrongly discribed as the 1957 version and obviosuly much worse. There are also a 1939 and 2011 movie. English title "King of the Edelweiss".

One better pic of the 1957 version is at

http://a2.tvspielfilm.de/itv/2012-07-14/1002858002_600.jpg

Starring Rudolf Lenz, Christiane Hörbiger, Attila Hörbiger and Olga von Togni.

Looks like a very good Heimatfilm, I assume typical good landscape scenes, good clothing including Tyrolean hats and maybe barefeet boys as well. Unlike the 1975 version which is available on VHS, this movie is obviously not available and rare. I hope for a soon broadcasting on free TV and have to update (all versions).

Rating 8 for now.

Deutsche Dynastien , Adelsdynastien in NRW

Doku am Freitag. Different WDR series, 40+ episodes
-Year: 2003-
-Year in film: ~1930s/1950s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~8, 17, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: boy ~11, sailor suit, other clo.
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: yes, partly TV recordings
-Clothing occurence: very low
-Rating:  4/10 *
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Some boys in Lederhosen and sailor suit (b&w).

This is a combined entry of series Deutsche Dynastien (partly also "Dynastien in NRW") and the new series "Adelsdynastien in NRW" (I mentioned this before) maybe this series will be integrated in the main series and maybe released on one DVD. In some TV magazines it's just said Doku am Freitag (the same in where "Meine Kindheit..." was shown.)

First "Adelsdynastien in NRW" Episode 1 (2012): Die Grafen Beissel von Gymnich (Satzvey)

One short moving b&w scene of 2 boys picking up potatoes or similar from the ground/field. One maybe 8 ys bending down showing his backside of buckskin Lederhosen. Probably many will like this scene, but it's very short and he's quite young. I think one other scene of an older teen boy/young man in long buckskin Lederhosen walking, but not sure if leather and a very brief scene. Not sure if everyone is aristocratic.

Deutsche Dynastien: ep 30: Die Thyssens (2011). 2 non-moving photos shown. First one good scene of ~5 Thyssen boys in fine historical 1900s clothing, later a family pic with one boy ~11 (I think one generation later) in a good sailor suit. Also some original footage of Germany during WWII/in the 30s (uniforms) but no or no notable scenes there.

I have seen some other episodes but can't remember them and have to check them again. Probably some more few similar scenes in Lederhosen or sailor suits, but this series is not primary about childhoods but about the history of the dynasties.

Sorry, no pics. I decided to not upload pics of these. Probably they are personal films and private pics. The series is also often rebroadcasted.

Rating 4 due to very few interesting scenes (and b&w either), Lederhosen scene 4-5.

Update: Norddeutsche Dynastien: Bahlsen - Ein Keks macht Karriere. At least one good photo of 3 boys wearing sailor suits (no pic here).

Schloss Einstein – episode 716

German TV series about a boarding school, 15+ seasons
-Year: 1998-
-Year in film: ~2012
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: Jonny ~13ys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: not yet
-I own: yes, TV recordings
-Clothing occurrence: low *
-Rating:  8/10
-Rating: ********
-Comment: Paul Hartmann (pictured) in longer medium brown buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders (sitting) in ep 716/s15e28).

At the beginning of this episode in a faked talk show, also shown Timmi Trinks as Fynn DeFreeze in the blue shirt. (For Timmi Trinks also see "Sophie - Braut wider Willen" , rating 5). I even didn't remember his name as he is much older now.

Also a better close up view of the Lederhosen (frontside) and at another angle (sideview/backside) but I choose this pic to show the length. Although Paul Hartmann is acting since the beginning of this season he is rarely shown in Lederhosen (see main entry of season 15 (also on my overalls blog) and ep. 709 (rating 7) showing him rehearsing the Schuhplattler dance (alone)).

/2012/05/26/schloss-einstein-episode-709/

Rebroadcasting tomorrow on Kika (as usual). I didn't watch it completely as I was watching and recording something else. I only noticed this short scene and have to check this tomorrow again.

Rating 8 (best in this season yet).

Update: I missed on scene indeed, he is also standing and showing from behind. But this is not as good and a short scene.

-Comment: At least 12 or 13 yo Martin Stührk in good smooth finish or Lederhosen with patina and H-style suspenders.

Unfortunately I still haven't seen this movie and found it by coincidence looking for another one. As what I have seen in the trailer this looks very good although he looks a bit thin and much younger. Some funny and even better scenes in the trailer, but I choose this pics instead of just showing his bottom or pics from a distance. Also a shirtless bathtub scene. Medium or more Lederhosen scenes (he also wore other clothes), maybe other actors in Lederhosen or maybe shorts as well?

Novel by Dieter Bongartz, also starring Kai Wiesinger, Katharina Böhm and Erika Marozsán. English title "The Tenth Summer".

I'm not sure about this movie and hope for a soon broadcasting. I think I wouldn't buy it on DVD, but I rate 7-8 for now.

Stührk also starred in "Räuber Hotzenplotz (2006)", see that entry, rating 4. I don't embed the trailer as it's from the official movie company.

Emily's Ghost

Kid's film/supernatural period drama
-Year: 1992
-Year in film: 1840s ?/1990s
-Country: UK
-Who in clothing: Edward ~10 ys? , sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: others, hist. clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: medium ?
-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least Tom Beeby ? or James Hobbs as Will, maybe 10 yo or a bit younger, in a short white sailor suit, white long collar with one stripe (pictured) and I think also 3 girls in a similar sailor dresses and other kids and grown-ups in interesting historical clothing including flat and high hats. Also at least two older boys in the past and maybe one in the present time?

I don't know/don't remember this movie. It's probably based on the famous novel by Denise Giardina about Emily Bronte and her sisters (according to the title, the names of the characters etc). Another British CFU production (Children's Film Unit, see also "The Gingerbread House", same director, and the CFF/CFTF movies).

Looks very interesting. There are a lot of other movies and series with a ghost plot but this seems to have more setting in the 1900s or earlier (novel is set in 1840) and good costumes.

I have to check this again. I think this is available on DVD and VHS directly from CFU, maybe on CD-r. 65 minutes. There's also a set of audio cassettes.

Rating 5-6 for now. No clips.

Story 44: Crossdressing (Fakes)

Like on my other blog I made some fake pics and swapped the heads and the clothing. So boys who wear sailor suits now also can wear Lederhosen or vice versa or even both. You also can sometimes better see, if they are really siblings.

Girls in sailor suits looks quite OK, but boys in dresses looks a bit weird. The little brother is now the big sister. And the last one has a twin brother.

I noticed lots of hits on my exclusive pics, so I also made a TOP 5 of these (TOP 6, as I didn't include pic #4 of the backside boys again). Pic is now under the 2 other TOP-5 pics. I linked it to the tag stories as there are most of them. There is no stats with pics like on blogger, so you can't click on a single post as it's just a pic. Earlier pics often have more clicks and a better Google ranking.

Die Försterbuben (1955)

Heimatfilm, novel Peter Rosegger starring Paul Hörbiger
-Year: 1955
-Year in film: 1950s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys, men, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: altar boys, other hist. clothing
-Available on DVD: no
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low
-Rating: 1/10 *
-Rating: *
-Comment: One very short scene of a boy in light brown longer buckskin Lederhosen (pictured with a brown hat looking down behind the one with the black hat) and some altar boys (red/white clothing). One toddler in longer buckskin Lederhosen and a hat (2nd pic on the right). Some men in different Lederhosen and other historical clothing (black pants and others in white pants and short pants over them, pictured). There is a person at a bowling alley (outside and far in the distance), not sure if this is a teen boy or a men.

Very few Lederhosen scenes (of boys). Some men in typical Lederhosen, also dancing (but no Schuhplattler). The movie is quite good and a typical Heimatfilm and landscape, some songs and some few dramatic scenes but could be much better.

Also starring Hermann Erhardt, Kurt Heintel, Erich Auer and Oskar Sima. I haven't found any DVD nor VHS release. There is a related 1984 sequel which is available on VHS. I have to check this as well (starring Franco Nero and Tilo Prückner), sometimes wrongly dated also as the 1955 version.

For Lederhosen scenes rating 1-2. Movie would be ~5. No clips.

Pink Floyd The Wall

Drama/musical starring Bob Geldorf
-Year: 1982
-Year in film: ~1940s-1960s
-Country: UK
-Who in clothing: boy Pink,  8, 12 yo, knickers
-Who in clothing 2: hist. clothing, sailor
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, DVD
-Clothing occurrence: low
-Rating: 5/10 *
-Rating: *****
-Comment: 12 or 13 yo young Pink (Kevin McKeon, pic 2) and little Pink ~8 (David Bingham, pic 3) in typical British grey knickers (pictured), also boys in historical clothes and hats (pic 1, short scene) and one sailor (brief scene at 1h 03). Also a spanking scene of young Pink at school. Some other boys and teens but nothing more of interest.

Probably everyone knows The Wall, at least some songs "We don't need no education - We don't need no thought control". Not sure if everyone knows this movie as well.

Less than half of this film showing flashback scenes of little and young Pink, the rest showing grown up Pink (Geldorf) and perfect surreal animations by Gerald Scarfe. The film is quite good, the music of course very good, but I rarely watch or listen this DVD. I bought it many years ago (mainly because of the plot, I already had the music before). Lots of WWII related scenes, especially in the animations. Rated R.

No Lederhosen and no sailor suit scenes, except for the sailor. But for the other historical clothing and spanking scene I had to add this here as well. The spanking seems a bit faked. Also a peeping scenes of young Pink.

DVD: I own the 1999 remastered deluxe edition. 5.1 and PCM stereo. Lots of extras, more than 1 hour, including documentaries, interviews, trailer, gallery, the music video and secret buttons.

Rating: Movie: 8, Sound: 8, Extras 10, Animation: 10, Actors: 7, Clothing: 5-6.

Story 43: Exclusive photo #16 sailor suit Lederhosen boys 1920s Hohensyburg

This large photo showing a large group of boys, most in sailor suits, others with similar suits, some in pants with suspenders and at least one in Lederhosen. 1920s. Not stated, but I'm convinced that the location must be Hohensyburg, Dortmund (which looks different nowadays). Maybe more than just one class, but I've seen such big classes elsewhere. I don't think that they travel long distances this times, so they might be from North-Rhine Westphalia. One boy on the front left is marked with an X, maybe the previous owner. Note the scool caps and that most were smiling. Bad times to come.

Not my best pic but could be worse. My last exclusive pic had more than 400 hits yet and the last montage with the long collars even much more than the original pic. Much better pics coming soon.

Die dicke Tilla

DEFA family film
-Year: 1982
-Year in film: 1980s?
-Country: DDR
-Who in clothing: boy Knutschi 12 yo, other boy Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: girl, overalls
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: often
-Rating: 6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: At least 2 boys in smooth finish Lederhosen or most likely nappa leather (pictured). The older boy (Matthias Mantz, on top) is often shown and also cycling in Lederhosen. Rare toothed pockets at the sides. The Lederhosen of the other boy (middle left with glasses) have no suspenders. Also a girl in bib overalls (soon on my other blog).

Currently on YouTube. I haven't seen it completely at slow speed but looks like a quite good, typical DEFA movie. Lederhosen are good and I like smooth finish Lederhosen, but I don't like boys with longer and wild hair. Quite good plot about a strong and fat girl new at school. Famous novel by Rosel Klein. Available on DVD.

Rating 6-7 for now, but I have to recheck this the next broadcasting. No trailers with Lederhosen.

Cavalcade (1933)

Romance/drama, 3 Oscars
-Year: 1933
-Year in film: 1900s (-30s)
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boy ~8 ?, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: suit, hist. clothing
-Available on DVD: yes ?
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating: 3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: One or two boys in long sailor suits (at least 2 scenes at the first parts of the movie). One standing on a stage with grown ups, maybe another actor. I don't know their names, maybe Douglas Scott. Rather short collar flap. The right boy could be Dickie Henderson. Good scene of  blue sailor suit on the movie poster.

Completely on YouTube (title missing the vocals), I checked most of this movie (at high speed) and noticed only very few sailor suit scenes. But could be worse. A ship scene (Titanic ?) also with lots of actors, maybe sailors, but I didn't notice any more scenes of interest.

Aka Kavalkade after a play by Noel Coward. Starring Diana Wynyard, Clive Brook and Una O'Connor.

Rating 2-3.

Info 108: Tumblr blogs deleted

Sadly the tumblr blog (starting with s c o) and many more had been deleted. I didn't visit them each day, so not exactly sure why (because of links, of unrelated other blogs of him or most likely because of some pics). There still might be some other blogs about shorts, scouting and similar (with some reblogs) and still some pics in the Google cache. I don't know if he already had moved elsewhere, but I think I won't link to those image blogs anymore (except flickr).

Story 43: Montage, Sailor suit boys in NYC

I made some photo compositions. 1930s sailor suit boys appeared in 2010s New York City. Anybody missed the 2 boys on the far right on the first pic?

And a sailor collar flag on the moon. Has Aldrin hoisted it up or was a boy before on the moon? And that's even a typical Russian sailor collar! Also some longer collars. All boys are from my exclusive pics. Montage by myself. First background pic from Wikimedia commons File:NYC 10.JPG , by Sanva1959 CC-BY-SA 3.0, 2nd pic from commons/Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/16353290@N00/4043997124/ by JessyeAnne. CC-By-SA 2.0

I hope you like it. That are the first modern pics I found. I also thought of modern trains. If someone has a suggestion for a good background, please comment.

Das Märchenschloß

DEFA family film / fairy tale
-Year: 1961
-Year in film: 1960s /fantasy
-Country: DDR
-Who in clothing: boys ~6-10, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: shorts
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: very often
-Rating: 6/10
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Main character Lutz Bosselmann as Peter ~ 6 yo (?) in buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders (pictured on top and pic 3 and 4 on right, often shown), also at least 3 other, partly older boys in Lederhosen, thereof one in smooth finish Lederhosen or most likely nappa (pic 2 on left). Also a lot of others in shorts.

This is a typical and good DEFA family film, not a real fairy tale but sort of and also a bit like a Heimatfilm at the beginning and end. Many Lederhosen scenes and some are very good. Novel by Fred Rodrian, screenplay and directed by famous by Herrmann Zschoche.

Rating almost 7 but only 6 because of the young age of the main character. I think I have seen it on TV many years ago. Now available on DVD and currently on YouTube. 51 minutes, no trailers.

Update: I forgot also the main character riding in Lederhosen at the beginning.
