This is my 2nd blog about feature films, TV series and documentaries with boys, girls, men and women in sailor suits, Lederhosen and other historical clothing of the 19th century and beyond. I collect informations, trailer videos, low-res images and personal comments/ratings. This blog was introduced in 2011. 2012-2020 on Wordpress. Now I'm back. Update will take a while.

Nepokoryonnye
War drama directed by Mark Donskoy
-Year: 1945
-Year in film: 1940s
-Country: Soviet Union
-Who in clothing: girl ~ 7 ys
-Who in clothing 2: men, uniforms
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: medium
-Rating: 2/10 ?
-Rating: **
-Comment: At least a young girl in a dark (blue) sailor dress (rather short collar flap), maybe Luda Lizengevich, but there's at least one other young girl (not in sailor dress). And also a young boy acting, but I also don't think in a sailor suit. At least 3 longer scenes with kids (one at about 15 minutes, one at 45 min and one at 60 min.)
German title: "Die Unbeugsamen (1946)", filmed in 1945, first shown in Germany in 1948. Russian title Непокорённые / Nepokoryonnye (and NEPOKORENNYJE), English title "The Taras Family". Based on the play by Boris Gorbatov. The movie is about a Ukranian family during WWII.
I don't like these kind of war movies. I only checked some parts of it. Lots of others in historical clothing (like Germans in uniforms), but maybe nothing of interest for this blog.
Rating 2 for now.

100 Jahre Landleben
-Year: 2012
-Year in film: 1950s *
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~ 9 ys
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: no
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating: 6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: At least some boys in I think smooth finish or nappa Lederhosen (without suspenders) at the end of part 1. Set maybe in the 1950s or 1960s in color, but quite bad image quality (looks like a private Super 8 movie). It's about rural living in Northern Germany. Like other similar documentaries there are grown-ups interviewed and some short, mainly b&w clips were shown. Also an interesting view of the history about working and leisure time in Germany during the last 100 years.
Had been aired yesterday (channel NDR). Unfortunately I missed most parts of it and recorded too late. There is also no clip online (not on Mediathek). Next episode will be aired next Wednesday, but of course I don't know it and can't say if Lederhosen scenes as well. But these kind of documentaries are often rebroadcasted.
Rating 6. Looks good.

Wide Sargasso Sea (1993)
Romance starring Karina Lombard
-Year: 1993
-Year in film: 1840s
-Country: Australia
-Who in clothing: young sailors
-Who in clothing 2: women, others in hist. clothing/collars
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low *
-Rating: 4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: At least one good scene of young sailors in good suits including long collar flaps of typical color, and some women with very big beige collars (front and back), and maybe other interesting clothing of the 1840s. Also men wearing top hats. According to the IMDb keywords there's also at least one boy acting, but I haven't noticed any. Maybe from Jamaica? Or is this an older teen boy/young man? Or probably a supporting actor.
I only have checked this at high speed and can't say much more about it. There's also a 2006 remake (but I haven't checked that one yet). Novel by Jean Rhys, characters by famous Charlotte Bronte, prequel to Jane Eyre.
Also starring Nathaniel Parker, Rachel Ward and Michael York. Rated NC-17. Maybe a quite good, but typical period movie. There are definitely better ones for me.
Rating 3-4 for now.

Info 149: 2 more PD postcards
2 more 1910s PD postcards, one romantic German and one tinted French. Many readers obviously like these pics. I have more than 500 hits on my recent pics each. On my recent exclusive pics I have about 700-800 hits and that's just the hits on Picasa and not from the ones who might just right click and save from within the blog or make a screencap.
Long collar and the girl touching it and a good sitting scene of the blond French boy. High, non striped dickey, round collar with some more stripes and rather short stockings.

Sailor suit stories (Japanese movies)
Comedy film
-Year: 1992 *
-Year in film: 1990s
-Country: Japan
-Who in clothing: teen girls, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: VHS only
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: often ?
-Rating: 6 (8) /10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Some teen girls in sailor-fukus (school uniforms).
I recently searched again for sailor-fuku movies, this time using the Japanese word "セーラー服". First I found a different movie with a girl in a yery good yellow sailor dress, see below.
But this entry is about the pictured 1992 movie called "セーラー服物語 ヴァージンなんかじゃつまらない!!" which is an erotic teen comedy movie (age rating 15+). Starring Tomomi Miyauchi. I don't know the exact English title (maybe there isn't any) it would translated in "Sailor suit stories - Some virgins are somehow bored" (or similar). The "A Virgin? How bull!" is maybe just a tagline and I haven't found anything for that. I also don't know this movie and only have seen some pics on the front and back cover and no clips. 70 minutes. VHS distribution company Maxam.
Originally I found a 1980s film (maybe 1983) with a similar title from a controversial photographer who died in 1991. That movie is not a feature film and I think 30 minutes long and part of these kind of girls series. There is a short version (9 minutes) on YouTube showing 2 girls, one in a good yellow sailor dress, short yellow collar, 2 dark blue stripes, blue scarf and another girl with a blue collar and yellow scarf (both white blouses). As this is not a regular, "clean" feature film, I won't make a separate entry of that one (OOP anyway). Both films have no IMDb entry or I haven't found them.
Rating maybe 6 for the 1st movie and rating 8 for the 2nd one, because of the rare yellow dress.
As searching for school uniforms I also found modern cheerleader and letter jackets with very long sailor collars. Maybe I find movies with these sometimes.

Dort oben, wo die Alpen glühen
Heimatfilm starring Gerlinde Locker
-Year: 1956

-Who in clothing: Thomas ~11, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: men, (teen) boys, Lederhosen
-Available on DVD: VHS only
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: often
-Rating: 8/10r
-Rating: ********
-Comment: Blond Peter Gruber in several scenes in short buckskin Lederhosen, also some young men dancing Schuhplattler (Watschnplatter) and some teen boys (and younger boys) in longer Lederhosen in the background near the end of the movie.
Finally another very good Heimatfilm. Had been aired last night (along 2 other very good Heimatfilms I already have). I wonder why they often shown these movies that late. Unfortunately I missed some few minutes at the end.
The blond boy is often shown, with and without his Tyrolean hat, some very good scenes, including milking a goat and other sitting scenes, and his Lederhosen often seem to be much tighter and shorter but sometimes they seem not as tight (maybe even 2 different pairs?) Mostly showing his front, but also one or 2 perfect rear views.
The movie is also good, perfect landscape scenes (cabin and mountains), some drama, Schuhplattler, so everything there. Written by Theodor Ottawa ("Die Sennerin von St. Kathrein"), also starring Rudolf Carl, Lotte Ledl and Albert Rueprecht. Filmed in Austria, so some or most actors may be Austrian.
Rating 8.

European Vacation
Comedy film starring Chevy Chase
-Year: 1985
-Year in film: 1980s
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Rusty ~16, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: men, (teen) boys, Lederhosen
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low *
-Rating: 2/10 *
-Rating: **
-Comment: Jason Lively (1st pic, nominated for a Young Artist Award) in short buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders in a very short dream scene in the plane at the beginning of the film ("The Sound of Griswald", refers to Sound of Music, sorry, this is already the best pic), and one longer scene where men, including Chevy Chase (pic 2 on the right in Lederhosen with green Tyrolean cotton suspenders) are dancing including Schuhplattler and Watschnplattler on a stage. Right behind Chevy Chase on pic 2 there is a blond boy in longer buckskin Lederhosen and red stockings. At the end of the scene, where they run away there are some older teen boys, one in good longer Lederhosen (green suspenders, pic 3). Shortly after that a young boy ~7 ys in longer Lederhosen, but shown very briefly.
Quite good, funny and entertaining family movie also starring Beverly D'Angelo, Dana Hill and Willy Millowitsch, but the first 1983 movie "Vacation" starring Anthony Michael Hall as Rusty (who became a man there) is much better. Aka "National Lampoon's European Vacation", German title "Hilfe, die Amis kommen".
For the short scene of Lederhosen rating 2 only. The movie is maybe 4-5.

Bennie Stout
Family film
-Year: 2011
-Year in film: 1930s
-Country: The Netherlands
-Who in clothing: boy ~11 ?, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: kid, man lace collars, uniforms
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: low ?
-Rating: 6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: At least one unknown boy at school in a real white sailor suit, dark blue collar, 2 stripes, however a non matching medium blue (long?) pants (pic 2, in the middle). I think a teen boy and a man (Zwarte Piet) with lace collars. Young men and I think teen boys in green uniforms (black long pants) in a marching band. Also lots of kids in historical clothing, but I haven't found any others in sailor suits. The main character (played by Koen Dobbelaer) wearing a blue cap and medium length pants, also kids in wooden clogs.
I like Dutch movies and this one looks like a very good family movie with Christmas and time travel plot, including funny and touching scenes. Golden Film Award. Written by Wijo Koek (Dik Trom, Flodder).
I saw different trailers and clips, but don't know the complete movie yet. I assume rather few good saiklor suit scenes and I wonder why only 1 kid in a sailor suit in the 1930s. But maybe this would had been looking too strict. I think also punishment scenes (pulling a boy at his ears, but I don't know of real spanking scenes).
Rating 6 for now.

Exclusive pic#31 Brothers 1900s Leipzig Album
This CDV showing 2 brothers with short hair from 1900s Leipzig. It's part of the first album I bought. There are 2 separate CDVs of them in different sailor suits and wearing hats (but not as interesting as this one, maybe I will upload them later), also relatives and girls. Also one pic of the right boy as older teen, but not in sailor suit. The album and some CDVs are in very bad condition, but it was quite cheap. Pic speaks for itself.

El niño y el muro
Drama

-Who in clothing: Dieter ~5, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: pants w./ suspenders, altar boys

-Comment: Spanish Nino Del Arco as 5 yo German Dieter in buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders (also sitting and also with a Tyrolean hat, pictured), but I think he mostly wear other (cotton ?) pants with suspenders. Also some altar boys.
English title "The Boy and the Ball and the Hole in the Wall", German title "Der Junge und die Mauer" filmed 1964 in West Berlin. The plot is quite interesting, but the boy is very young and obviously few Lederhosen scenes. Also starring Daniel Gélin, Yolanda Varela and Inma de Santis. Story by Jim Henaghan (who also starred in The Waltons and Lassie). Directed by Ismael Rodriguez. For the sake of completion. Completely on YouTube.

-Comment: Aled Roberts ("Back to the Secret Garden (2001)") in a suit with a top hat and also other quite good historical clothing (tie). Also 14 yo Florence Hoath as Flora in historical clothing and both with straw hats and of course others especially women. I don't know of any sailor suit scenes in this version.
Maybe a good movie about this famous ghost story by Henry James, but there are better and more famous ones (including sailor suits, try a blog search, some movies have other titles).
Starring Valerie Bertinelli, Michael Gough (1916-2011) and Paul Rhys. I think not officially released on DVD. US production but filmed in the UK with British and American actors. Flora is British and probably also Miles.
I can't rate higher than 2-3 as no sailor suits. The movie is better. That's the last Turn of the Screw entry for now. One more movie might be of intereset:"Benjamin Britten: The Turn of the Screw (1982 movie of the opera, not 2004) with a boy in a night shirt sitting on a chair at the end of the movie.

-Comment: One boy in a white/blue striped short sailor suit, matching collar, very long dark blue scarf, light blue pants, no dickey and a flat straw hat, 2 girls in historical clothing, also with collars, one with a poke bonnet, and a boy in red pajamas of the 1980s. Also at least one other boy and a woman (mom).
I found this by coincidence during a completetly unrelated Google image search. I bet nobody heard of these films before. No entry at IMDb. There are 9 different historical films (each about 15 minutes), but I don't know the others and don't assume sailor suit scenes elsewehere (though interesting historical clothing. Not sure if also kids in other films). Directed by Tom Ward. The pics above are from a dream scene with time travelling, so even fewer scenes with sailor suits, but more than half of this short film #9. Set in 1750s-1983. For grades 4-5. Can be watched online at

Rating 4-5. Quite interesting, also the hats and the style of this films.

Norddeutsche Dynastien. Episode: Bahlsen - Ein Keks macht Karriere.
Interesting episode of this famous biscuits. At least one very good (b&w) photograph of 3 boys wearing sailot suits, probably 3 of the 4 sons of the founder Hermann Bahlsen (senior) (Werner, Klaus, Hans) in the 1910s ?
Can be watched online at the ndr mediathek. No pic because of private photographs. See also the main entry of Deutsche Dynastien, Adelsdynastien in NRW. Probably the next episodes (next is Darboven coffee) are also of interest (previously rating 4).

-Rating: ***
-Comment: Jules Sitruk ("Moi César, 10 ans 1/2, 1m39", "Monsieuer Batignole", "Son of Rambow") in short white /blue striped sailor suit with matching collar. Also he and his brothers in quite good medium length shorts with suspenders. One short bathtub scene of him (nothing much of interest/towel).
Had been aired yesterday (rebroadcasting Nov 19 and 20 on arte). I missed some minutes at the beginning but I only noticed this very short flashback scene in sailor suit. The movie itself is a typical but good French movie with early setting and typically told by a narrator. Novel by Hervé Bazin. Also starring Catherine Frot and Jaques Villeret.
Interesting and funny plot. English title "Viper in the Fist" remake of the 1971 version (which I also have to check.)
For the few sailor suit scenes I can only rate 2-3. Movie is maybe 5-6. There are a lot of similar and better movies.

-Who in clothing 2: boys
-Available on DVD: yes

-Clothing occurence: medium ?
-Rating: 4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Many girls in sailor dresses /sailor fukus. Also boys acting but probably not in sailor suits, but in traditional school clothing for boys. The movie is about a female teacher and her class, so interesting for everybody. I only have checked some few scenes. There's also a 1987 remake, which I also have to check but probably is much worse. Novel by Sakae Tsuboi.
Today I searched for Japanese films with sailor suits and the first I found was this clip. I first don't know the title of the movie as the clip has the title of a 1971 song (Song of the Beach, composer Narita) by Chieko Baishô. Starring Hideko Takamine (1924-2010). Original title "二十四の瞳"
I have to check this again later.
Rating 4 for now.

-Who in clothing 2: shorts, capes

-Rating: *********
-Comment: Lucas Beiger as 10 yo Jean (1st pic) and Frédéric Flory (younger brother) in short dark (blue or black ?) sailor suits and big (wide) white sailor collars (2 stripes), one other boy with a medium blue sailor collar (at the beginning in 1891 or 1871), last pic, also one other boy on the right with a white collar, but brief scene, some other boys in quite good shorts, also many boys in capes and one good scene without clothes (as Jean had to clean a wine barrel sitting inside it and later running around). Also a spanking scene (pants down of 5 yo Jean (Thomas Castan)).
Very good French/German (Alsace) movie. Some parts reminds me of "J'ai voulu rire comme les autres" (rating 10). The sailor suit scenes are mostly in the last 1hour. And sometimes hidden inside the capes (in one scene a woman puts one inside). Usually I like white collars, but hey have 2 thin stripes only and I prefer here the blue collar. I also don't like dark curly hair and the boys are quite young although they fit perfectly in this movie.
Good setting and plot and also some funny and interesting scenes. Jean got kissed and 2 girls saw him in the barrel.
German title "Die Linden von Lautenbach" (Lauterbach at IMDb must be wrong), bestselling novel by Jean Egen.
Rating 8-9 "only"due the young age. No trailer, no DVD.

-Comment: Charly Huber as Hubert (1st pic and I think 2nd pic on the far left) in longer Lederhosen with much patina (H-style suspenders, showing front and back, also with a green traditional jacket, alltogether about 3 scenes), one other (unknown) boy in short and tight buckskin Lederhosen (also H-style suspenders and showing front and back, 2 short scenes) in ep 27, and some other kids in tight shorts in this episode (one on right to the Lederhosen boy on pic 2) and also some other kids in shiny shorts speedos and similar clothing at the camping site, but mostly far in the distance in other episodes. Men and I think 2 older teen boys in Lederhosen in the first episode (brief scenes and not very good, rating 3-4) and some older men in the middle of the series (band). Also a woman (and a toddler and I think a man) in bib overalls (soon on my other blog). And an older teen boy in tight jeans. Charly Huber also in good jeans in ep 28. Blond Rudi Derse (freckled thick nose) as 11 yo Boris in light blue pajamas (barefeet), a light yellow jogging suit and other good clothing of the late 80s.
I still have to check the last 6 episodes (a 23 minutes) but according to IMDb they only appear in this 2 episodes, but maybe there are also other or even better episodes (I will update this if necessary in a few days).
2-3 rather short but very good Lederhosen scenes (each), handsome actors and good plot (the series about the two old ladies (Northern Heidi Kabel and Bavarian Erni Singerl) managing a camping site and encountered many problems, mainly financal ones). Maybe some prefer the short Lederhosen, but I like the longer ones (a bit baggy/too big). Very rare with so much patina (almost smooth finish leather). Lederhosen also look strange next to the bright 80s clothes.
Some very famous actors (in other episodes) including Erni Singerl, Willy Millowitsch, his son Peter and daughter Mariele (she in bib overalls), Gerhart Lippert and Pit Krüger. Also some interesting historical things of the 80s/90s like old telephones, computers, TV sets, cars etc.
DVD:
I bought this DVD box for other reasons and was surprised of this perfect Lederhosen scenes.
DVD is PAL 4:3, RC 2. Image quality is very good even on big screens, stereo sound, no subtitles, no extras (yet). I think this series hadn't been aired since the first and only airing in 1990 but after the DVD release it is possible. However the DVD was even very cheap.
Rating 9-10 for Lederhosen. I hope for more scenes and close up scenes of shiny shorts or other interesting clothes. I found no clips on YouTube and few other infos.
Update 1: Boris also in ep. 30 and 32 (32 cycling, good scene), but no more Lederhosen scenes (except a man). 4 more episodes left.
Some better pics, now also on my shiny shorts blog, rating 6

Exclusive pic#30 group, boys in sailor suits Meiningen 1920s
This cabinet card showing a group of many kids of Meiningen I think in the 1920s. Only some in sailor suits (4 boys). Typical flat straw hats. At least one in pants with H-style suspenders but maybe no Lederhosen. Some kids had been moving their heads and other things (a flag ?) so some parts are blurred. I also had a lot of work to remove scratches on almost every face. I like this pic. Looks like a festivity of the village (probably not a communion or marriage).

-Comment: The Boys Choir "Tölzer Knabenchor" (pictured) in their typical outfit (longer buckskin Lederhosen with green cotton H-style suspenders, red stockings), at the beginning of this episode 68 "Der Kartoffelkönig" (probably season 13), singing but also acting. Also later in black suit pants and white shirts, and at least one also in jeans. Not sure if all the boys are or were in the choir, but I think so.
Good and famous series starring Ottfried Fischer. I saw this yesterday by coincidence and I don't remember other episodes. The episodes are of film length. Completey available on 1 or 7 DVD box sets (36 DVDs). Also starring Katherina Abt, Arnd Klawitter and Moritz Lindberg. There's also a woman in bib overalls in this episode (maybe Abt?, soon on my other blog).
I like this choir. Maybe the most famous boys choir in Lederhosen which is also quite unusual. See also

-Comment: An older teen boy or young man (is this 14 yo Asier Hernández ? ,looks older but Pedro Mari Sánches was 31yo) in a long dark blue sailor suit, blue collar with 2 stripes and probably 8 yo Flora (played by 10 or 11 yo Christina Goyanes) in a long dark blue sailor dress like dress and a hat.
I took the time and checked almost all other "Turn of the Screw" movies including the operas and this seems to be the only one with real sailor suits (except the 1992 version), see
/2012/10/29/the-turn-of-the-screw-1992/
Usually there is a 9 yo boy called Miles in the original plot, but I haven't seen him here, but I don't know this complete movie. There are a lot of other Turn of the Screw and some other Otra vuelta de tuerca and some other movies with the same or similar plot of this famous ghost story by Henry James. The 1995 version aka "The Haunting of Helen Walker" is also quite good (entry coming soon), but no sailor suits.
I have to check this again the next broadcasting, rating 4-5 for now.

Info 145: Update: Skandal um Dr. Vlimmen. Lederhosen rating 10 !
Complete update of Skandal um Dr. Vlimmen (as announced). Now even rating 10 instead of 8. Much better than thought and even smooth finish or nappa Lederhosen (though rather few scenes). I missed the last10/15 minutes, but I am very happy, to found this airing of this rare movie. Rather a coincidence.
3 more pics and some more infos in the main entry at

I encountered some problems about missing pics and clips here. (Like in "Der Glockengießer von Tirol") I hope that this is just a temporary problem. Pics of (older) entries are still in my old blog /Picasa albums (please also check my previous blog). Maybe there were some problems during the import of entries of my old blog and this might affect some more entries. I thinks embedded clips haven't been imported and links (of the old pics) pointing to my old blog.

-Clothing occurence: low *
-Rating: 2/10 *
-Rating: **
-Comment: Kimberly Foster (pictured) wearing a red sailor collar combined with a dark blue blouse and light blue jeans in s13e23. 13 or 14 yo Omri Katz, younger Joshua Harris and some other kids in jeans and shorts (in season 13) and perfect swim shorts, jeans (riding) and bib overalls (14 or 15 yo Omri Katz) in season 14 (see my bib overalls blog, rating 7.)
I have seen the complete season 14 and 13 except 4 episodes and 1 and a half can't be played. I will update both blogs in a few days if necessary.
I think I don't have to tell much about this series. Some exciting episodes in season 13 with an unknown killer. Few good scenes of the boys. I don't like Kimberly Foster and especially not her earrings.
For sailor suit scenes rating 2 (though quite rare in this cicumstances), this season rating 3-4 for now.

800 Jahre Thomanerchor - Singen für Gott und die Welt
Choir documentary
-Year: 2012
-Year in film: 1941, later
-Country: (East) Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~9-13 ys, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2: Lederhosen, other clothing
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low *
-Rating: 3/10 *
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Some choir boys as well in real sailor suits (b&w), choir suits, modern clothing (jeans) and also Lederhosen (b&w), shorts (color and b&w) and uniforms (b&w).
Had been aired today. This documentary is about the Thomanerchor of Leipzig (boys 9-19 ys) and their lives at the boarding school. 2 boys are often interviewed, a 13 yo Paul and an older boy about 18 or 19. Quite interesting, but there are many (better) documentaries about other choirs like the Wiener Sängerknaben. The boys wear these modern "sailor" or choir suits until their voices break, after that they wear regular suits and at 19 they had to leave the choir. I don't like these modern choir suits with angled collars, but no long real sailor collar. For a pic of these suits see the entry of the movie "Das fliegende Klassenzimmer (2003)" starring Constantin Gastmann and Frederick Lau (rating 2) at
/2011/10/05/das-fliegende-klassenzimmer-2003/
The documentary includes some historic scenes of 3 other films, "Die Thomaner" 1941 (first 2 pics, also 2 short Lederhosen and other scenes in shorts, also showing that they had to wear uniforms instead of the sailor suits on some occasions during WWII), a 1961 movie (pic below, one scene) showing them in traditional short sailor suits (then East Germany) and also scenes of 2000 (but most of the scenes are obviously of 2012 and of course in color). Most in jeans and also showing them in soccer shorts. Some boys wearing braces, some boys are handsome. There are also girls at the boarding school now.
For the few interesting sailor suit and Lederhosen scenes rating 3, the documentary is a bit better, about 4-5. I prefer the Wiener Sängerknaben, although they also had changed their sailor suits.

The Turn of the Screw (2009)
BBC TV drama starring Michelle Dockery
-Year: 2009
-Year in film: 1920s
-Country: UK
-Who in clothing: Miles ~9, hist. clothing
-Who in clothing 2: others clothing
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: often *
-Rating: 4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Joseph Lindsay (pictured) in interesting historical clothing including different hats. I don't know of any sailor suit scenes, though white shirt and a black tie. Michelle Dockery wears a blouse or similar with a beige sailor like collar.
As announced also this BBC version. I also don't know it completely. See also my previous entry (with boy and girl in sailor suits, rating 4 as well)
/2012/10/29/the-turn-of-the-screw-1992/
Unlike the 1992 version this is not set in the 1960s but in the 1920s and looks much better. Though the same famous ghost story by Henry James. For more info see the other entry. I hope for a soon broadcasting as I only checked it briefly on YouTube.
Rating 4 for now (as no sailor suits).

Der Herrgottschnitzer von Ammergau
Heimatfilm, novel Ludwig Ganghofer
-Year: 1952
-Year in film: 1950s ?
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys, men, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: no
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low *
-Rating: 4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Some older boys including teens in long Lederhosen marching with grown-ups. Also one very young boy in Lederhosen and of course older men in Lederhosen, some in short Lederhosen. Also Schuhplattler scenes (grown-ups) incl Dirndl drahn.
Had been aired today. Rare movie and the plot is quite interesting. Directed by Harald Reinl, starring Erich Auer, Elise Aulinger, Willy Rösner and Walter Sedlmayr.
Not sure about the setting, there is also a 1930 movie called "Der Herrgottschnitzer von Oberammergau" which I don't know. Often Ganghofer movies are set in the 1890s but often the plots are timeless. Ganghofer wrote this stage play in 1880.
Rating 4 "only" due to the very few good scenes, but could be worse.
