This is my 2nd blog about feature films, TV series and documentaries with boys, girls, men and women in sailor suits, Lederhosen and other historical clothing of the 19th century and beyond. I collect informations, trailer videos, low-res images and personal comments/ratings. This blog was introduced in 2011. 2012-2020 on Wordpress. Now I'm back. Update will take a while.

Unsere große Schwester
Family series, 13 ep.
-Year: 1964-1965
-Year in film: 1960s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: Tommy ~11, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: Tommy, shorts, pajamas
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: often ?
-Rating: 6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Jan Koester (pictured) in Lederhosen (?, not sure if nappa, smooth finish, buckskin or other pants) with suspenders and also short pants maybe buckskin Lederhosen without suspenders (see DVD cover). Also in pajamas.
I found this DVD release some time ago but only noticed the cover and don't assume Lederhosen. I already made an entry on my bedroom blog (bunk bed, rating 6 with 18 yo brother). The picture is from the official trailer (brief Lederhosen scene directly at the beginning).
I can't say much more about this series and have to check it later (online or broadcasting).
Typical German family series of the 60s. It's about their older sister.
Rating 6 but if smooth finish Lederhosen it could be much higher.

Sailor Fuku Hangyaku Doumei
School drama series, 23 ep.

-Who in clothing: teen girls, sailor fukus
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes ?
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: often
-Rating: 6/10 ?

-Comment: Japanese teen girls in typical long dark blue sailor fukus and also white long sailor dresses which is quite rare. All collars matching the color of the dress. Clean, long blue collars, not sure about the white ones.
As announced I also found this series on YouTube. English title "The Gifted Ones", literally Sailor Uniform Rebellion Alliance, Japanese title "セーラー服反逆同盟". I haven't found it on IMDb.
The title song is Shadow of Love from A-Jari. Series is completely on YouTube but I haven't checked it completely.

-Who in clothing 2: men Lederhosen, uniforms

-Rating: ******
-Comment: Some boys barefoot in longer brown and black buckskin Lederhosen with H-style suspenders. Some in other pants without suspenders. Men in interesting blue uniforms and Lederhosen.
Had been aired 2 days ago, but I missed the beginning. Looks very interesting. Very early setting in 1820. Filmed in Tyrol so probably supporting actors from there. Finally another Lederhosen and Heimatfilm entry.
I haven't noticed short Lederhosen but I like some of the older boys. Of course good landscape and other scenes. Directed by Bernd Fischerauer "Blut und Ehre", Apollonia.(rating 5).
Rating 6-7 for now.

Sêrâ-fuku to kikanjû (1982)
Drama series, 2 episodes
-Year: 1982
-Year in film: 1980s ?
-Country: Japan
-Who in clothing: girls, sailor fukus
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes ?
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: often
-Rating: 4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Japanese school girls in white sailor dresses / sailor fukus. Dark blue long collars, long blue scarves, 3 stripes. Teen boys in other school uniforms.
I found this on YouTube and I believe that this is the 1982 TV series セーラー服と機関銃 『悲しいくらいほんとの話』原田知世 , not to be confused with the famous 1981 movie with the same title aka "Sailor Suit and Machine Gun" (rating 4)
/2011/09/20/sera-fuku-to-kikanju/
Most sailor fukus are probably long and dark blue and dark blue long collars as well (another movie coming coming later). But I prefer white blouses and blue collars.
I can't say much more about that as I don't understand Japanese.
Rating 4-5 for now.

Frankenstein (1931)
Horror film starring Boris Karloff
-Year: 1931
-Year in film: 1900s ?
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: boys, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: women, sailor dresses
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating: 4/10 *
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Some younger and older boys and men in Lederhosen with H-style suspenders and Tyrolean hats and at least a woman in a long white sailor like dress dancing at ~47 minutes.
Of course I have seen this famous Fankenstein movie but long time ago and I didn't rememember or expect Lederhosen scenes here. But probably only few and short scenes. I mainly remember Karloff and the girl at the lake. Probably set in the 19th century in an unnamed European town.
Also see "Son of Frankenstein (1939)" rating 3 with a young boy in a sailor suit which is maybe set in the 1930s.
Rating 4 for these Lederhosen scenes, movie is better (for that time). I should watch more classical movies but I don't have much time and found it by coincidence.

Sugar Creek Gang
5 kids adventure films
-Year: 2004-2005
-Year in film: 1950s
-Country: USA
-Who in clothing: Dragonfly, Bill ~12 shorts
-Who in clothing 2: overalls, pajamas, girls dresses
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, all 5
-Clothing occurence: low *
-Rating: 6/10 *
-Rating: ******
-Comment: No Lederhosen and no sailor suits/sailor dresses but some very good 1950s clothing including bib overalls (my blog rating 10), tight jeans shorts, shirtless, barefoot and wet scenes, pajamas and girls in dresses and jeans. Also starring younger and older boys in overalls. Dragonfly also wears the straw hat of his female teacher.
I'm watching and watching again all 5 episodes. My favorite is Kody Brown as Dragonfly (on the right). He wore very tight jeans shorts as swimwear in epsiodes 1 and 3 (3 is better) but I like all 5 films. Also other boys swimming in different shorts. Sorry, I don't make additional pics for these kind of scenes but I really recommend it. Famous Christian book series. The DVDs also include interesting audio commentary, bloopers and lots of good set photos. Also showing Dragonfly with longer hair and his similar looking sister (unpictured) also appears in the movies. Pic is from film #4.
For more infos see both my other blogs, especially my overalls blog. There's one main entry, a book entry and a story entry about pockets and hanky code.
Film and overalls rating 10, for jeans shorts rating 6-7.

-Who in clothing 2: boys, other clothing
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low
-Rating: 3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Some few historical pics (maybe also clips) of boys in sailor suits, maybe Lederhosen and other clothing as well.
Very interesting series. Had been started rebroadcasting the first episode starring comedian Bernd Stelter in search for his ancestors (in the US and Poland). His dad died in 2011.
2 interesting photos of boys in sailor suits.
I have seen this series at the first airing but I don't remember all episodes. Very interesting is the episode about The Kelly Family. I can't say if there are other interesting scenes and Lederhosen.
Fridays on WDR. Next episode is about Hugo Egon Balder but I don't expect anything of interest there. Will be updated.
Rating 3 for now.

Meine Kindheit… an der Elbe
Documentary
-Year: 2013
-Year in film: ~1960s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~7-10 Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: boy ~11, swim shorts
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low
-Rating: 3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: Some few boys as pictured in Lederhosen with H-style suspenders (moving images set in the former GDR/ East Germany), soviet scarves and others in shorts. At the end a color scene of a boy in swim shorts probably West Germany of the ~70s.
Another episode in this series. Had been aired some days ago so must be still available online at a mediathek and probably this new episode will be rebroadcasted later. I think I missed some parts at the beginning. Although set in Northern Germany no sailor suits, probably too late for that.
Typical documentary with some famous German people telling about their childhood. And showing historical footage.
Rating 2-3.

Exclusive pic#38 Sailor suit boys Flensburg 1920s
A family pic, probably set in Flensburg of the 1920s. 2 young boys in different short sailor suits (front row), one other 2 rows above on the right (note, a man puts an arm over his shoulder) and another boy in different clothing (upper left). One interesting old man with a long beard (top row).
I first thought that this a wedding photo but due to the clothing maybe a different family gathering. I bought this together with the 1924 and 1925 school class photos (exclusive #25), so this might be in the possession of the same original person.
The girl on the left is separated from the other kids, so maybe a cousin. The house looking very large, so maybe a school, town hall, restaurant or similar.

A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries
Drama starring Kris Kristofferson
-Year: 1998
-Year in film: 1977 ?
-Country: F, UK, USA
-Who in clothing: woman, sailor dress
-Who in clothing 2: boy, overalls
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low
-Rating: 3/10 *
-Rating: ***
-Comment: I only noticed this young woman at the beginning of this movie in a dark blue sailor suit. 3 crossed stripes and 2 Navy stars. Not sure of the actress. Maybe Barbara Hershey or uncredited actress as Kaylie ?
As announced on my bedroom blog (rating 4, set in France of the 1960s) now this entry. Some few very good scenes set in US of the 70s on my overalls blog, rating 5).
There are many flashbacks and time jumps. I think the end of the movie is set in the 90s, the beginning might be in the 1940s?
Interesting movie after the autobiographical novel by Kaylie Jones. I don't remember the complete movie, but I think most of it is rather boring.
For the brief sailor dress scenes rating 2-3 for now only.

Apollonia (2005)
Heimatfilm starring Julia Heinze, 2 parts
-Year: 2005
-Year in film: 1913-1918
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~7, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: boys ~11, knickers, shorts, other cl.
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: very low *
-Rating: 5/10 *
-Rating: *****
-Comment: I only noticed one very brief scene of a young boy in a blue, probably short sailor suit (set in 1914) near the end of the movie. Also 2 brothers, look like twins in very good longer shorts/knickers with suspenders (also close up rear view while climbing out of the windows). Also other clothes, black 7/8 pants. No or no notable Lederhosen scenes of boys.
Interesting and unusual Heimatfilm set in the 1910s. Part 1 had been aired yesterday. Part 2 will be aired next Friday.
Also starring Konstantin Wecker and others. I have to check the next part as well.
Rating 3 for the sailor suit scene for now, movie is much better.
Update: No scenes of interest in part 2. Younger men in longer Lederhosen.

Meine Kindheit in Ostfriesland
Documentary series, this ep. 2013
-Year: 2010-
-Year in film: 1960s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~7, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: shorts
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurence: low
-Rating: 4/10
-Rating: ****
-Comment: At least one younger boy in maybe nappa Lederhosen with H-style suspenders. I understand that this is Tamme Hanken himself (born 1960), so must be late 60s. Other scenes are about the 50s and 70s.
Yet another childhood documentary with vintage clips and pics. I think this is a different series than "Meine Kindheit ..." (see those entries) but it's very similar. "Meine Kindheit ... in der Weihnachtszeit" is set in Northrhine-Westphalia (WDR) and "Meine Kindheit in der Weihnachtszeit" is set in Northern Germany (NDR).
There are also other kids shown like 2 blond boys and a girl in a tin bathtub (also b&w). And other kids in shorts. But I missed the beginning.
Rating 4 for now. I like smooth finish Lederhosen but he's very young. There are better series.

Lebenslinien: Das Auge des Frankenwaldes
Documentary series
-Year: 1990-
-Year in film: 1960s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~9-11, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: shorts
-Available on DVD: no ?
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: medium
-Rating: 5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: 3 scenes of interest showing boys in longer and shorter buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders. Also boys in shorts.
As announced this 2012 documentary had been aired yesterday. Will be rebroadcasted again this morning, and maybe later shown online in the mediathek and maybe rebroadcasted again later. I like this series about mainly unusual lives of people. Propably also Lederhosen (and sailor suits) in other episodes.
This episode is about the portrait photographer Reinhard Feldrapp (pictured, 1st pic). He talked about his childhood. The first pic is a longer scene (S8 footage), longer buckskin Lederhosen (with H-style suspenders) also close up scene climbing up that ladder. Also showing father and son together, so partly taken by his brother but I think the pics showing Reinhard who also filmed in his childhood. The 2nd pic showing his friends (maybe one of them is Reinhard). The 3rd scene is shorter showing some other boys in short Lederhosen, one also close-up.
Typical vintage S8 scenes. I prefer the scenes in the forest with longer Lederhosen.
I think in this case I have to announce again that all pics are copyrighted in this case by Bayerischer Rundfunk, courtesy Reinhard Feldrapp. Fair Use license to discuss this series.
I give rating 5.

Die Halbstarken (1956)
Thriller starring Horst Buchholz
-Year: 1956
-Year in film: 1950s
-Country: Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~11, Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2: shorts, jeans, speedos
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, partly TV recording
-Clothing occurrence: very low
-Rating: 5/10
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least 2 boys in buckskin Lederhosen and at least 2 short scenes. One without and one with H-style suspenders. Lederhosen are a bit too big. Also other boy in shorts and jeans. Maybe some more (younger) supporting actors in the distance. There are also speedo scenes (mostly of the older teen boys/young adults ?) but I haven't seen them.
I missed the beginning and the first scene I noticed is at around 45 minutes (rear view). The scene pictured is a bit later (front and rear view, playing soccer). I was watching a Heimatfilm on a different channel yesterday (no notable Lederhosen scenes, just a woman in overalls, soon on my other blog) and didn't expect Lederhosen scenes here.
Aka "Teenage Wolfpack" and "The Hooligans" also starring Karin Baal and Christian Doermer.
Quite entertainig and exciting film, but I don't like it. I prefer rural Heimatfilms in color. Few Lederhosen scenes.
So rating 5 for now.

Story 74: Dream, On TV Die Landärztin (1958)
2 days ago I had a dream about a girl wearing 2 sailor collars at the same time. One longer white one and over that a shorter blue one. I can't rememeber anything else and what that's suppose to mean. Interesting clothing style. Could be some sort of secret code if different colors and length are worn. Like the gay hanky code (for more see my story on my overalls blog).
Tomorrow on TV: Die Landärztin (1958) aka Die Landärztin vom Tegernsee. Starring Marianne Koch. Boys shirtless in Lederhosen, rating 5 (not on DVD).

-Year: 1957
-Year in film: 1950s

-Who in clothing 2: men, Lederhosen, costumes
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: yes, TV recording
-Clothing occurence: very low
-Rating: 3/10
-Rating: ***
-Comment: In fact only one notable and very short scene of a boy in short Lederhosen with H-style suspenders driving a scooter. At least one other younger boy but in the distance (unpictured). One boy in breeches or knickers (pic 2 on the left near the man in Lederhosen). Also very few men in (longer) Lederhosen. Old men dancing and yodelling but no Schuhplattler. Some grown-ups in costumes at a stage play.
Finally another Lederhosen and Heimatfilm entry. Sadly very few Lederhosen scenes. The movie itself is also very boring. Typical romance. However some good landscape scenes.
Starring Marianne Koch, Liesl Karlstadt and others. English title "Salzburg Stories". DVD available.
Rating 2-3. Could be even worse.
