This is my 2nd blog about feature films, TV series and documentaries with boys, girls, men and women in sailor suits, Lederhosen and other historical clothing of the 19th century and beyond. I collect informations, trailer videos, low-res images and personal comments/ratings. This blog was introduced in 2011. 2012-2020 on Wordpress. Now I'm back. Update will take a while.

Nahimovcy (1976)
Documentary
-Year: 1976
-Year in film: 1970s ?
-Country: Russia
-Who in clothing: boys ~12-18, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: often
-Rating: 6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Several teen boys (mostly older teen boys) in typical blue long sailor suits, 3 white stripes. Medium blue collars.
Russian title "Нахимовцы". I'm not sure about the transliteration. This is a documentary about the naval school named after admiral Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov. I haven't found an entry on IMDb. There is also a b&w series (1946-1949) and some other modern movies on YouTube (coming soon). The school is still active and even now accepting girls. Completetly on YouTube but just 28 minutes.
I like these Russian style medium blue collars. They are also often quite long and wide. Note the multiple times folded collars on pic 1+3. Pic 1 showing a younger teen boy crying and pic 3 a dancing scene. Also nice touching the collar flap. Striped dickeys (or shirts) and dark blue suits.
Good movie with lots of interesting scenes including some younger handsome boys and collars flying up.
I have some other entries set on Russian naval school ships or starring younger marine boys, some playing during WWII (blog search for navy, naval, marine).
Sekretnyy farvater (rating 10), Yunga severnogo flota (rating 4) and also an US movie Lord Jeff, rating 10 and some few others.
Quite interesting but I prefer feature movies.
Rating 6.

Églantine
Drama starring Valentine Tessier
-Year: 1972
-Year in film: 1890
-Country: France
-Who in clothing: Frédéric 11, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: girl hist. clothes
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: medium ?
-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: At least this young uncredited boy in at least different short sailor suits. A white blouse and collar (3 dark blue stripes) and a blue white striped shirt with a dark blue collar. Dark blue short pants each. Also many different hats, caps and even a black top hat. Some girls (I think 3) in similar clothes but maybe not in real sailor dresses.
Quite interesting but looks a typical French period movie. Directed by Jean-Claude Brialy.
I haven't seen the complete movie and have to recheck it later. But I assume rather few good (sailor suit) scenes. There are definitely better (French) movies with more handsome blond actors (see rating 10 tag).
Rating 5-6 for now only.

Držanje za vazduh
Drama
-Year: 1985
-Year in film: 1980s?
-Country: Yugoslavia
-Who in clothing: Milan ~7 ?
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating: 4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: At least this (orphaned) young boy (probably Marko Vojinovic as Milan) in a short white sailor suit. Also shower scenes without clothes. Underwear and probably shorts and other pants.
Original title "Држање за ваздух", English title "Holding the Air". Directed by Zdravko Sotra.
Quite interesting movie but probably most watch it for other reason than sailor suits. And I think very few scenes with that sailor suit..
Maybe I have even seen this movie but can't remember the sailor suit scenes. I'm not sure about the year of setting. Are these flashback scenes (after WWII?) but probably most scenes are set in the 80s?
Scenes at around 18 minutes. On YouTube.
For sailor suit scenes rating 3-4 for now only.

The Little Kidnappers (1990)
Drama starring Charlton Heston. Remake
-Year: 1990
-Year in film: 1903
-Country: Canada
-Who in clothing: Harry, Davy ~7-9 kilts
-Who in clothing 2: lace collar
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: often ?
-Rating: 5/10 ?
-Rating: *****
-Comment: British Charles Miller (Davy) and Leo Wheatley in kilts. Also other clothes. Pants with suspenders and lace collars. This is a remake from the 1953 movie (I have to check that one).
I recently found this interesting movie. This blog is about historical and traditional clothing and I already have others showing kilts (The Drum (1938), My Life So Far, and Schloss Einstein (see List 17)).
Sorry, I can't say much more about this movie and have to recheck it. Theres also at least one boy being bathed in a tin washtub.
Please also note my 4th blog about western clothes.

Die Squaw Tschapajews
DEFA family film
-Year: 1973
-Year in film: 1970s
-Country: East Germany
-Who in clothing: boys ~7-11 Lederhosen
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: no
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: often ?
-Rating: 6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: Some boys in short and long, tight brown buckskin Lederhosen (not sure about the fabric) with and without H-style suspenders. Maybe some are even smooth finished Lederhosen or nappa. Also cycling scenes. Partly b&w. Sorry, no pics yet.
I haven't seen the movie (maybe I have long time ago) and so have to recheck it later.
Looks very interesting. Typical East German movie but Lederhosen scenes might be better than in most other East German movies. Also quite handsome boy actors.
Directed by Günter Meyer ("Der Dolch des Batu Khan", "Spuk am Tor der Zeit").
I wonder why this movie isn't yet available on DVD. Probably it will be released like all the others?
Rating 6 for now

Yunga severnogo flota
War drama
-Year: 1974
-Year in film: 1942
-Country: Soviet Union
-Who in clothing: boys ~15-18, sailor suits
-Who in clothing 2:
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurrence: often
-Rating: 4/10 ?
-Rating: ****
-Comment: Many, mostly older teen boys and young sailor men in white and black sailor suits. Light blue and dark blue, often long collars with 3 stripes and striped dickeys.
I found this on YouTube during research. Many teens, there are some scenes with about 70 boys outside, wearing white suits and black hats .
English title "Sea Cadet of Nothern Fleet" Russian title "Юнга Северного флота" and is based on true events during WWII.
Some good scenes, also swimming in sailor suits and also shirtless scenes and dark shorts (underwear ?) but it's rather a typical Russian naval war drama of it's time.
Most boys are old and not very handsome. There are better similar movies with younger boys.
So rating 4-5. Maybe I have missed some good scenes?
