Story 9: What underwear in Lederhosen?

I wonder what kind of underpants people wear beneath Lederhosen during the decades. In some films it can be (partly) seen.
I don't remember at the moment any films with dressing/undressing scenes, but sometimes it can be seen while sitting or lying down or in case of very short Lederhosen the underwear sometimes peeping out and some parts and the color is visible. I have to investigate that further, but I assume the following.

I think during the 1970s, 80s and maybe later they usually wore briefs, probably tighty whities (at least in Germany and Austria).
In some DEFA films (East Germany) many boys wore tight and short Lederhosen and I think I saw some parts of white underwear beneath the Lederhosen (see the DDR film entries of the last days).

In the 1950s and 60s I assume a bit larger and also mostly white (boxer) briefs. Maybe larger than the speedos of that time, which were also larger than today.

But I wonder what they wear nowadays. (Satin) boxer shorts under Lederhosen? That doesn't match the traditional folk clothing.
Usually it can't be seen under them but Lederhosen would be some sort of costume of another time. And maybe the same for the hairstyles. (Men with long hair).
And also with sailor suits. See "Ein Richter zum Küssen". Haircut of the 80s and sailor suit.

In the film "Toni Goldwascher" (longer and a bit oversized smooth finish Lederhosen, rating 9, see that entry) the teen boy wears dark blue underwear, but probably no boxer shorts.

I have to check other films and will update this if I found something.
What women wear underneath and that some people might wear no underwear is a different chapter.

Update: Good undressing scenes of both boys and girl in Lederhosen in "Die Mädels vom Immenhof" (rating 9). However they wear swimwear underneath. The medium blue speedo could also be briefs.

  1. During the 1960s, and till about 1975, the only underwear available for boys in Europe were white rib-cotton undershirts (tanktop style) and white rib-cotton high waist briefs. All boys wore them, mostly the year round. Undershirts were often visible: shining through their shirts or hanging out of their shorts/trousers. Also the shoulder strips were visible when the neck opening of a t-shirt was a bit too wide (t-shirts were not seen as underwear in Europe in those days. So boys wore an undershirt under a t-shirt). When coloured underwear became populair (especially blue) the undershirt became even more visible, especially under a white t-shirt. Around 1970 the shorts and soccer shorts (and lederhosen) became shorter and shorter, briefs were often peaking out under the shorts, or above when they were pulled up a bit too high. For this there even was an expression; 'milk kooking over'.
